Mike, CLEAR, but... <DOCUMENTATION> DOCUMENTATION MAKES SOFTWARE BETTER ESPECIALLY OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE(as you probably know). BUILDING ON THE SHOULDERS OF OTHERS REQUIRES UNDERSTANDING AND UNDERSTANDING REQUIRES DOCUMENTATION OR ALLOT OF TIME. SAVING TIME AND GETTING BETTER SOFTWARE ARE IN EVERYONE'S BEST INTEREST. I understand that contributed products are not affiliated with Digital Creations, and I understand that people are going to make them(That is ONE BIG BENEFIT of OPEN SOURCE, isn't it?). So the individuals should more openly contribute to the documentation effort. If you post something document it. OTHERS will use it, modify it, and document their changes. If you don't have the time or the Zope Zen level high enough to read the source and grok it's inner workings from that, *don't install the product*; wait a little while for a more stable or beta quality release or until some discussion is generated about it. If you just offhandedly install every product you hear about, and it corrupts your database or lights your cdrom drive on fire, you have no one to blame but yourself. </personal opinion> -Michel

Incoming mail, scheduling

Zope is really great! I've been demoing it to various folks who need websites, and there's been quite a bit of drooling going on. Several of my product ideas, though, need missing functionality. I'd love to be able to deliver mail to the Zope database (for bug trackers and such) and to schedule periodic tasks. Is anybody in the Zope community working on these projects right now? eMarket product

This is an alpha quality-version 'starter' of an EMarket Product. I have lots of work to do to 'process' purchases, but the basic idea is there.. and it shows one possible way to use Zope Folders as a super class for more or less generic folderish objects. I'm doing this as a way to learn about Zope, but also produce something that might be useful for me (and maybe serve as a beginning example to someone else!). Suggestions, patches, etc etc.. welcome. manage_addProperty problem....

Hi Folks, I've got a Product I've been working on... it works great on 1.9.0, but I just tried running it under 1.10.2 and I get the following error... (on both ZServer, and ZopeHTTPServer): <html> <head> <title>exceptions.AttributeError</title> </head> <body> Sorry, an error occurred.<p>  </body> </html> ---------------------------------------------------------------------- So it's something to do with my setting a property of a folder... I check my code newMainF = EMarket() # EMarket is a subclass of folder..... newMainF.id = id newMainF.title = title newMainF.manage_addProperty( 'RegistrationSubject', "Registration Information", 'string') newMainF.manage_addProperty( 'RegistrationFrom', "manager@" + gethostname(), 'string') self._setObject(id, newMainF) OK... I comment out the "manage_addProperty" and it works (except the properties are not defined now!). From the error it sounds like RegistrationSubject is illegal as a property name....but if I add such a property to a folder by 'hand' it works fine. Any ideas? thanks, -steve

How to access object directly

How do I get a Zope object stored in the database given its path, let's say "\folder1\folder2\image" from inside an external function or product method? Something like object = BOBO_machinery (path) Of course I could use self.folder1.folder2.image due to aquisition, but only if the names are unique on the object's path. In the moment I'm about to use something like from Main import app path = string.split (path, "/") object = reduce (getattr, path, app) but this is not very nice. I'm sure there is a simpler solution. Stefan
