Hi Zopeiacs! To avoid double trouble, I'm announcing herewith that I'm building an Adabas (http://www.sag.de -OR- http://www.softwareag.uk) database adaptor for Zope; no great stuff, to be honest: some minor changes to the ODBC adaptor plus some not-so-minor changes to the date&time handling; most of it has already been done, I'm currently cleaning things up. The 'final pre-alpha' thing will be available Really Soon Now(TM) at the Zope Database Adaptors' Page. If there's other work on the same topic being done right now, I'd like to hear from you... Dear sir, I have install zope 1.10.2-win32-x86 on Windows NT Server 4.0 with service pack 3. The installation was successful. But I cannot configure the existing webserver - IIS 3.0 - to work with the zope management screen. I understand that there are 3 ways to get the zope management screen up. Which are 1. To run the start.bat in the zope installation directory which opens a dos windows and runs a process in the background. This is the method I have been able to get working since installation a week ago. It seems to work fine. What I do is point the URL to http://localhost:9673/manage and it works. 2. Start the Zope web server through the Window NT services utility in the control panel. I can start and stop the Zope web server as NT service but the web browser does not load the management screen. This is what I did: I used Zope12 as the web site name in my installation. So I copied Zope12.exe from the Zope installation directory into C:\InetPub\wwwroot\cgi-bin which is the path used by IIS 3.0 on my NT machine. Then I start Zope web server via NT service. After that I started Netscape web browser. Then point the URL in the web browser to http://localhost:9889/cgi-bin/zope12.exe/manage and it does NOT work. I thought the Zope web server will find the zope manager in the cgi-bin directory. But No it failed. What is the suggested solution in this case? 3. Configure an existing web server which in my case is IIS 3.0 on NT 4.0. This is what I did: same as 2 above I copied Zope12.exe, which is the program generated for the web site name I used in the installation, from the Zope installation directory into C:\InetPub\wwwroot\cgi-bin which is the path used by IIS 3.0 on my NT machine. Then I pointed the URL to http://ntserver:9889/cgi-bin/manage and it also NEVER worked. "NTSERVER" is my Windows NT Server 4.0 computer name. What am I doing wrong? I could use the first option but I like to be able to use all the options so I can provide services to users and clients under any of the above situations. Also I like to know if, a) I can run more than one web server i.e IIS web server and the Zope web server as NT services at the same time? b) I can get the Zope management screen up using the IIS or Zope web server when the 2 web servers are running at the same time as NT services? Also in the Zope managers guide I am trying my hands on the Plutonia tutorial. When I added a document it added only DTML document and not html document as indicated in the manual. When I used the index_html as id for the document I got the error message "id already exist". How do I go around the error message or fix the duplication. Also I noticed that the management screen has one extra menu item Import which is not shown in the manual. Is there an update to the manual? I like to hear from you very soon. Regards Emmanuel

That's cool. Never heard of this before, so I have some questions? What version of Zope? When you say without apache do you mean ZopeHTTPServer or ZServer? Have you tried it from a different browser? Does Netscape hang while the server loops or does the browser loop with it (meaning can you see it doing this or is Netscape just looking dumb). Michel, Oh, I wouldn't dream of replacing 'INSTANCE_HOME' on line 270 in lib/python/AccessControl/User.py with my path to 'access'. Actually, more elegantly, where exactly wouldn't I dream of changing the acquisition of PATHs from pcgi (or the Zope.cgi file). Say, if I were careful not to add a new variable to the Zope.cgi file containing the path to 'access', where would I avoid telling Zope to use that new variable. (Actually, a coupla whacks to my head and a 'dig for it, peon' would probably be the answer I deserve.) And thanks, Chris

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? OK. Allow me to clarify. Is there any way to redirect the path for the 'access' path when it should be somewhere other than INSTANCE_HOME? Say, for example, I have multiple instances of Zope databases, with one Zope install, and I want to use a single superuser, or access file. Not what Im' doing, but closer to a mebbe-real-world use. As far as I can tell, Zope wants 'access' located at '../INSTANCE_HOME'. Any ideas? Or am I just wrong (And/Or, that is). Or any ideas for getting around NFS problems without putting '/var' in /tmp? This is the killer question. Do you want your methods rendered? unrendered? does it make any sense to search DTML, does it make any sense to search out of context rendered DTML? The Zope indexing machinery comes with 1.10.2, but it is fairly low level, you'll have to create a whole cataloging product that whizes through your objects indexing their 'contents' and attributes. You would have to write it yourself. We have a Cataloging product that does *exactly this*. It is not open source, and you will need to contact Paul (paul(a)digicool.com) to make some sort of arrangement (usually $$$) to get it. Optionally you can recursively search through your objects, but this could take a bit more time than using an index. Perhaps the 'perfect browser' could offer that as a feature. :) It's handy to have a document called 'logout' in the root folder with the following DTML:  This will allow you to log in as another user, it's still a bit of a kludge because it tries to access logout again (which raises another unauthorized) so you have to first hit cancel, and then try for another page manually.
