Hi, I need to let users edit parts of a site, and I want to use the management interface rather than write a 'dumbed down' interface for them. But I don't want these users to see anything they are not supposed to use or know. First, I don't want users to be able to access foo/manage, but only foo/manage_main. But if I add permission to access the management interface to a user, then foo/manage is accessible. Second, if a user does not have permission to change security for an object, I want the Security tab not to appear at all. Also, I don't want the Help tab to appear. Is it possible to control what  creates? Just to clarify, it's WAY under 1 second, and the actual search time is more like 1/10th of a second, if that. It's one of those things that is impossible to benchmark through the web because of the overhead. We'll work on some benchmarks once the full 200Mb RPM database is in... customizing #tree tag

Hello. It is clear how to create tree hierarchies, based on zope folders structure, but I could not find examples of displaying as tree structures, which are external to Zope. For example let us have a relational table LIST_NODES with the following columns: (ID_SELF:INTEGER , ID_PARENT:INTEGER , NAME_SELF:VARCHAR) it is very simple to write SQL methods for retrieving set of children of current node, but syntax for writing "expr", "brances", etc. methods is unclear. FYI: News from the front

Here at the hotel in Raleigh. Just dialed in to get my blast of Zope messages. I propose that no one send email while I'm on the road :^) Jim, Brian, and I came down today and setup the booth, then did a quick demo for Hadar when he showed. Everything worked awfully well. The portal toolkit demo out to go over very, very well. It's exciting stuff. The PR folks have lined up four interviews so we out to be pretty busy. We're just across from Penguin Computing's booth and helped the guy unpack their refrigerator-sized, >$100k, 8 processor Xeon behemoth. I'm going to be him to let us run Zope on the monster sometime during the show :^) Jeffrey, Michel, Ken, and Chris come down tomorrow. /us/states/fl/cities/miami/weather ok, 'us' is a folder 'states' is a Z SQL Method that's only argument is state.string to allow for 'direct traversal' 'cities' is a Z SQL Method that's only argument is city.string to allow for 'direct traversal' 'weather' is a DTML Document in the 'weather' document i want to be able to access the 'states' value and 'cities' value how do I do that?  ????? I know that's wrong. Thanks for your help, I'm being crunched for a big project. -chad

I agree about the security problem. I'm not familiar with the IObjectSafety interface, however. I gotta get that Python/COM book ;-) My basic idea was the COMObject would be similar to a database connection object. You probably wouldn't manipulate it directly, and probably only Managers could access it. You would then create DTML Methods with proxy roles of Manager to do some specific thing to the COMObject. Then you'd call those DTML Methods in your normal old DTML. Maybe there should even be a COMMethod object to do this kind of work... Does any one know how ASP handles these sort of issues? Using supplied demo Gadfly database

Hi I'm total newbie to zope, and would like to practice with a simple Gadfly database connected to an interactive website... I found the demo (empty) database supplied with Zope but couldn't get it to work... even a simple select * from __table_names__ won't work... Tried to import an allready working gadfly base created with Python (gfplus) next to the demo directory, but neuther did it work.... Nor could I find any help in the tutorial/quickstart documents.... Anybody can give me a clue on what went wrong ? Or any example to download ?
