I also tried getattr Object naming in Zope plays by slightly different rules than Python naming, by necessity. We have had customers, for example, that _hate_ the _html naming convention and wanted badly to use .htm, .html etc. names. There are also concessions made in the name of supporting things like FTP and WebDAV - in these cases, Zope really needs to be willing to accept names that occur in real world file names (~files, etc.). So, the short answer is that when working with Zope objects from an external method, you should always use getattr() or Zope-provided API methods like objectValues. 'eval' constructs should be avoided. You say above that you tried getattr() - can you tell me how this failed (the traceback)? Can't configure configuration

Hi, Hi, I am playing around with some of the examples in the Zope managers guide, and I trying to create a configuration interface according to the Managers Guide. The docs do not say how to call the documents or where the are supposed to be saved at (ie what folder), but ...... Yep, your right, the catalog (like ZTables) takes only the intersection of a search. Modifying the _indexedSearch() algorithm wouldn't be too hard, it's just *how* to modify it is the tricky part. The ideal solution would be to create some sort of query language that web form could dynamicly build queries to, that way, you can design your querty rather smartly. A nifty wizard could even be built to build complex web forms that you can then tweak for usability. ANN: Squishdot 0.1.5 released

Hi ya all, After some delay, I've released a new version of Squishdot which mainly fixes a weird behavior of Squishdot regarding adding/deleting subject topics under ZODB3. Its now available both thru the Squishdot website (members.tripod.com/squishdot/index.html) or at the Zope contributed products page (www.zope.org/Download/Contrib) This is a maintenance release and includes no new functionality. Also a important note about the change: it changes the data structure of Squishdot stored data (not just the methods) so your Squishdot data may not be compatible across versions 0.1.4 and 0.1.5. I havent tested their compatibility. So it comes with this warning : <WARNING> YMMV </WARNING> ;). You can get more details about the changes and related stuff at the Squishdot site's newsnotes page (members.tripod.com/squishdot/newsnotes.html) If you still encounter problems with this release, keep sending your bug reports to squishdot(a)yahoo.com where though it may take some time, they will eventually be given due attention. Please remember to prefix bug reports with [BUG REPORT] in the subject line so they will automatically be filtered to the trash, er, bug-report folder ;). Also, I'd like to announce that preparation for the next major releases of Squishdot (i.e. 0.3 and 0.5) is going to start within the next week or so. I'm preparing a document discussing additional functionality and features that may be implemented for Squishdot -- this, I hope, will provide a starting point for a focused discussion on the directions that Squishdot will undertake in its development. Could you be more specific? I think you should expect a million hits per day on a $3k machine using Apache in front of Zope. If you're talking an order of magnitude more than that, then you might be right. But that would make your site one of the top ten Internet destinations :^) To be more specific, if you'd like a significant boost in Apache performance, write a mod_zope that eliminates the forking and pcgi-wrapper connection. As for compatibility, I realize that some people don't feel comfortable "locking" their database in a Data.bbb file. We're taking steps to make this decision easier (e.g. XML import/export, Zope2's ability to store its contents in one or more relational database tables, etc.). On the ugliest side, there is system function from os moudle in Python, i.e. import os os.system("bla bla bla") ..... .... You can run any application in this way. (in Wndows os.system("start this_program.exe") ). The ugly face is that you do not have any direct way to force communication between the applicaion launched(forked?) in this way and the Zope par se. Once I was and am in this situation (with wget on my linux box) and did the ugliest thing to control the non-Python application. I forced the non-Python application write verbose log and let an Python external method read the log and do something. ... So if you are at least an awful newbie like me, welcome hell aboard. :-) Of course there are much elegant solutions which I can only guess from the source which the Zopian Gods bless us with, but I am too lazy or busy too practice the source. hi all I'm developing simple Zope product, as is in ProductAPITutorial described. I can't test my product using Zope Debuger (ZPublisher.Test), because the Test module generates an Import Error exception. I have $PYTHONPATH set on <zope_dir>/lib/python . Is it corect ?
