I've made ZOPE 2.0.0b5 and python 1.5.2 rpms available at http://www.zope.at/mze/ This rpms come with their own python compiled for ZOPE in /opt/mtg. Additionally, they contain the ZOPE version number in the package name to allow having multiple ZOPE versions installed. URLs as properties

Hi! I wish there was a help button that tells me what I can do instead of having to post this... Under the properties tab, I can add strings, text (what's that? a whole file?), selection, multiple selection (what's that also?), but there isn't an URL option. I was imagining something like this: I define a myhomepage property and can do this:  and creates this html: <a href="http://whatever.value.was">myhomepage</a> Do I do this somewhat differently? How do you add more property types in that list? Please reply to me directly as I only subscribe to the digest version. Is there a way just to have the digest subjects mailed to me instead of the whole digest? Can I do this in Mailman? Has anyone put Mailman inside Zope? Thanks. -ray

ZODB and huge database.

Hi! I've been wondering what was the biggest database anyone has used with ZOPE? (I'm currently developing a ``file distribution'' server, in fact quite trivial, but it will have much data stored in it.) Has anyone done something about the 2GB datafile limit as found on Linux? (Using multiple Data.fs?) HOWTO: Changing from DTML Document to Method and back.

Hi! This is only intended as a tip, because it might not have occured to all ZOPE developers yet. Sometimes, one wants to change a DTML method into a document or the other way. ZOPE doesn't support this (it doesn't fit to well into it's object model), but you can do this quite nicely with some browser help ;) My way of doing this is: 1.) Open the orginal object manage_edit in a new window. In netscape, just click the middle button on the item in Folder management view. 2.) Leave the new window alone for the moment an minimize it. 3.) In your folder management view, delete your original. 4.) Add the new object, be it method or document. 5.) Unminize the window created in step 1 and click on "Change". Close the window. Voila, you've changed the type of your entity without much fuzz. Problem: FreeBSD ports collection stock install. Leaves out some modules. Hi, Chris You've given me a good impetus to figure this out once and for all :) I've updated the HOWTO a bit more... It's now pretty complete with regards to adding ZClass instances from DTML. Here's a new paragraph that is relevant to what you're trying to do: If you are trying to add a ZClass instance from elsewhere in the ZODB, it's just a couple of lines more that are necessary:: <dtml-with "manage_addProduct['YourProduct']"> <dtml-call "YourZClass_add(_.None, _, NoRedir=1)"> </dtml-with> How did I come up with this, you ask? I pulled out a crystal ball and attempted to channel the brains of the DCers up here. Since they were resistant to that particular crystal ball, I resorted to using the "View Source" command in the browser. Basically, when you add a ZClass instance from the management interface, it calls current_url/manage_addProduct/YourProduct/YourZClass_factory. The factory serves up the addForm method, which then posts to the add method. Through all of this, you're working a couple levels below the destination URL, and the addProduct machinery is designed to handle this so that the new object ends up in the right place. The (_.None, _) parameters are there to pass in the namespace. I believe that this is necessary since the YourZClass_add method exists in the Control Panel. You don't need this when calling most ZClasses, because they are in more "normal" parts of the ZODB and have access to the things you would want them to... Zope with Apache howto?

hi everyone, i'm finally sitting down to do the dreaded zope/apache connection. of course i am running into all the same problems that i had read about on the list at some point or another. :( has anyone done a howto yet? something to replace the apparently completely unworkable setup info that comes with the source code? i'm stuck at the place where accessing the site gives a "error parsing pcgi info file" and the pcgi santiy checker tells me "error attempting: 'from cgi_module_publisher import publish_module'". i assumed cgi_module_publisher would be a python file and i could look at it, but it's nowhere to be found... the repairs done so far involved checking if the pcgi_wrapper executable is where the first line of Zope.cgi shows it and then replacing "Zope" in lines 2 and 3 with "Main" and "Main.py" respectively. i haven't even gotten to the juicy rewrite part yet... ack frustrated jens -- Jens Vagelpohl **Better living through electronics**
