Guest Counter is a very simple product whose class instances can count the number of "guests" to a web site. It counts users using any kind of ID you want, although it makes most sense to use a user's IP address. Since HTTP is a stateless protocol, visitors cannot be precisely tracked, and so the counter continually times out registered IDs in order to approximate the current bulk of visitors. A simple mechanism for piecing together "graphical" counters using GIFs or whatever you want is also provided. Installation instructions: Unzip/tar in Zope root folder, then restart Zope. The new meta type "Guest Counter" should be now available for adding to folders. (I made a small blooper that meant that each count incurred a transaction in the Zope OFS. I'm trying to do a try on top of a gradient background. it looks pretty sharp, but I'm getting a blue background being drawn behind the text instead of the text just having a transparent background. I can provide code if needed.

How to update a password for a logged user in memory

Hi, I developed a method for an user changes its password. I'm using UserDB and the method changes the password in the database. After the change is made the user is warned his/her login is invalid and he/she must login again with the new passord. Is there anyway to avoid that? Best regards, -- Carlos Henrique Bauer

Object history

hey, does anyone know how I can have an object that will not store its status history. for example, a while back I was asking about counters. I know there are several products out there, but I want to write my own thing to learn. I have somewhere the variable counter. Whenever I update it, it keeps a history in Data.fs (so I was told). Zope 0.9 External Methods

I know I'm living in the past, but I just haven't had any time to upgrade. So please forgive me, and try to understand. I need to know how to do the following: 1) Pass arguments from a form submission to an external method. Right now, I have a checkbox, say, chkDialup, which when checked holds the value of 'y'. When unchecked, the symbol "chkDialup" is undefined, and so I default it to 'n' in the external method, like so: def PriceQuote( self, ..., chkDialup='n', ... ) The problem is, REGARDLESS OF THE VALUE ACTUALLY HELD BY CHKDIALUP, THE FUNCTION ALWAYS TREATS IT AS HOLDING THE VALUE OF 'n'!! Why? 2) How can I include the contents of a document in the output of the external method? I'm trying to do this: def PriceQuote( self, ...args... ): RESULT = self.pre_content RESULT = RESULT + "some sample <b>HTML</b> text here." return RESULT The problem here is that executing RESULT = self.pre_content, it converts the thing into a plain text; in other words, it converts <b> into <b>. How in the world do I get Zope to treat the file /verbatim/ instead of trying to second-guess what I mean? Thanks in advance for the advice and assistance. It's greatly appreciated. If it seems like I'm a bit "edgy", it's because I'm under a pretty severe time constraint on this project (it needs to be done in two days!). Building a cursor in a SQL query results

Hi zopers, this is my second try, and I hope to have better luck than before. My problem: I have to scan the query result of a SQL query. Currently, I have been able to assing the query results to a variable and scanning the list without resubmitting the query. However, I am reassigning a variable inside a cursor cycle and the variable do not seem to change value. Can you help me ? Create Table Interface

I'm new to Zope and I have the following problem: I want to create a interface for creating tables (if there isn't one already). The layout of the form would be similar to the form where you add properties for objects in Zope. Instead of properties there would be a list of columns and there types and below that you can type in a new column name and it's type and add it to the list. After you have defined the table structure you submit the form and the table is created. The columnlist is not a persistant list however. Question1: How do you then define a list variable in the dtml document that is only used while busy with the form? Question2: If I add a column to the list, how do I tell Zope to render the same dtml document and update the list? Thanks for your help. Roché

Displaying the text from a text area

Hi folks, This seems like it should be simple, but I haven't been able to figure it out. I have a text area called "notes" for users to--appropriately enough--enter notes on a transaction. The notes field carries beautifully across two different forms, allowing the user to append information to the field if they need to when they are viewing the second form. I then want to display the entered text in printable/e-mailable form on the third page. I have discovered the following behaviour, that while understandable is not desirable--at least for what I'm implementing: Form 1: <p><b>Notes:</b><br> <textarea name="notes" wrap="on" cols="80" rows="10"> </textarea></p> Form 2: <p><b>Notes:</b><br> <textarea name="notes" wrap="on" cols="80" rows="10">  </textarea></p> Undesirable behaviour one-- Using this method, I end up with a Python List on the third page. The first item in the list is the text that was entered on the first page, the second item on the list is the text that was entered on both the first and second pages. Undesirable behaviour two-- When I go to display the text using  not only do I get both items from the list, but I get untranslated CR/LF pairs. Identifying current location

Hi Zopesters, I'd like to implement a navigation bar somewhat like the one at the top of the page at www.zope.org. I'd like to have each button be highlighted whenever the browser is at that page. For example, the home page would cause "Home" on the Nav bar to have a different colored background. Two questions: 1. How to I access the current page's ID so I can code the nav bar logic? 2. Is there a reference for all of these objects?
