Hello all, I've been using Zope since 1.10 but I've not subscribed to the list due to increasingly heavy traffic. However, now it seems that I have to since there are a number of things I'd lke to discuss as well as ask that do not seem to be in the zdp docs. Anyway, I'd like to suggest breaking up the zope mailing lists further to: Zope-install (for installation and config issues) Zope-SQL Zope-DTML Zope-ZClasses? Or something like that... Why? The current September archives (bear in mind it's only the 3rd of September) already lists 197 posts!!! In 3 days?! I'm currently interested in sql methods and I already have Zope2 installed and running (simplicity itself - no need for Apache :-)) and I'm more interested in DTML and ZClasses. The latter, mostly. Any explanation > for this behavior? Sure, there's an explanation! :^) Each type of object needs to know (i.e., be told) what its behavior under ftp is. Check lib/python/OFS/FTPInterface.py and lib/python/OFS/DTMLMethod.py for a simple example. For DTML docs/methods this is relatively straightforward since the apparent filename is the id and the content is the file. However, other Zope objects have more complex metadata (e.g., ZSQL Methods). Exactly how that metadata (e.g., argument list, database connection, etc) should be represented to a low-tech ftp client is not clear. Additional questions about the target client for this capability also come to mind. In the next few weeks we will start iteratively publishing a roadmap for Zope's mid-term future. I suspect that improved FTP integration will be included. I also suspect that there will be an RFC on much of the roadmap. A note to the list, please save your comments for now, we are still recovering from the Z2 push and we aren't ready to capture comments as yet. --Rob

ZCatalog

Hi First question: I've read in the MikeP "how to" about ZCatalog that it was a really powerful tools for searching... but also for creating trees, navigating, etc... Is there any good tutorial or place to find more about ZCatalog ? Second question: Here's my piece of code for my ZCatalog report... <a href=""></a> Ex: I have a resource located at myweb:8080/services/ , when I search and find it with ZCatalog the link which is returned with the code above is http://firecopper:8080/search/services/ which works of course but can be very disappointing for users. How do I remove the /search reference in the returned link ? Some questions want to ask you!

Hi everybody, I was second time to sent this letter to you because you didn't reply my letter that i sent it in two days before. I have the tree like: +index_html(DTML Decoment) -lib(folder) -lib1(subfolder) +introducation(DTML Document) +history(DTML Document) : -lib2(subfolder) +introducation(DTML Document) +history(DTML Document) : -lib3(subfolder) +introducation(DTML Document) +history(DTML Document) : In the index_html has some lines:   : If i call http://../../lib/lib1/index_html , it will return the introducation and history of lib1,etc. I want to use "in" tag instead of above lines that were inside the index_html and change the id of DTML Document(0001,0002,...) in the subfolder of lib, so that i can just change the id(0001,0002,...) or add a id(eg. 0004) to change my web page. I don't need to change anything in the index_html later. How can i do that? Hope that you can reply my letter as soon as you can! Thank you very much. Elaine Kong. You could run ZServer AND Apache or IIS with the intent to serve http through IIS/Apache and FTP through ZServer. However, neither Apache or IIS have the "smarts" to serve Zope over ftp. --Rob

Caching problems

I'm using an external method that imports another module "Defs.py". A dir(Defs) looked like this: ['Faculties','Secretaries', '__builtins__', '__doc__', '__file__','__name__'] When I added a dictionary called Passwords to Defs ( Yes, I saved the file :-) ) Zope failed to detect the change and threw an 'AttributeError'. When I came to work this morning Zope still hadn't caught up so I restarted the server and everything went fine. I'm developing within a versioning branch and I run Zope-b6 under Solaris7. I consider / hope that it's a bug -- or that there's a smooth way to get around this. I for one wouldn't like to trade off late-binding-time. Comments anyone? Helllo, After having creating a Zope site here here at work and put it in production(zope 1.10.3, a few month ago..), we have discovered this TEXTAREA content size problem. The problem is worse with IE5, the data are troncated after a few KB. It was looking to me like the size of the URL send was limited, so the parameters who follow the big textarea are lost too.
