ZCatalog searching questions

Hello all I'm trying to re-implement the internal policy manual here at work using Zope (it's currently hyperlinked WordPerfect documents), and after demoing it to management there are now two things I need to solve with the search feature. First, is there any way I can search by regular expression or search for part of a word? Specifically, I need to search the content of a bunch of DTML Documents (these only contain the text of the policies and references to standard_html_header and standard_html_footer) for partial word matches. For example, "vac" needs to match "vacation", "vacations", "vaccination", etc. Second, is there any way to use a list of synonyms when searching? For example, a search for "headstone" should also search for "monument" and "gravestone", and likewise a search for "gravestone" should also search for "monument" and "headstone". Am I asking too much of this? Should I be buying a Python book and adding this functionality myself? Should I be using something other than ZCatalog? Should I be using something other than Zope? changing properties of a zclass

hello, maybe this is a too simple question, but I don't know what to do anymore. I have a Zclass called "Dokument" and I have an Instance called "Dok" in a folder. In the same folder, there is a DTML-Document, from where I call an external python-method. The Zclass has the properties "author" and "version". What I want, is to change the properties of the Instance "Dok" with the python-method. I want to do it with the following code: self = getattr(self, "Dok") self.manage_changeProperties(Author = 'Bill Gates', Version = '400th beta') The method has no error, that is, it does not crash, when it is called. But the properties are not changed... and I am going mad, slowly but surely! Does anybody have a idea, what went wrong???? Thank you very much. Markus

Zap Error

Hi all, I am trying to use ZAP with Zope 2.0.1 under RH 6.0, but when I run ./startzap I recieve the normal confirmation telling that Apache is runnig, but when I get a list of running processes I cant see the pid or the Apache's instances. And sure, I cant access http://localhost:80/ When I get the error_logs, I get this above: zap: [Thu Sep 30 18:14:09 1999] [alert] (22)Invalid argument: initgroups: unable to set groups for User nobody and Group 4294967295 zap: [Thu Sep 30 18:14:09 1999] [alert] (22)Invalid argument: initgroups: unable to set groups for User nobody and Group 4294967295 zap: [Thu Sep 30 18:14:09 1999] [alert] (22)Invalid argument: initgroups: unable to set groups for User nobody and Group 4294967295 zap: [Thu Sep 30 18:14:10 1999] [alert] Child 7756 returned a Fatal error... feature request for web-email please ?

OK, in a fit of misplaced enthusiasm I volunteer to fix Notmail (or at least take a stab at it) .. unless somebody else is already doing this. In fact, I was going to port my own webmail package, Pymail, to zope anyway but was wary of undertaking the task for fear of subjecting others to my not-so-great coding skills. You can check Pymail at mail.ethos.st (username=test/passwd=123456) It's been running for over a 18 months without problem. Now, webmail can be just an interface for IMAP and I can simply port all my scripts to zope using DTML methods and documents, mixed with an external method or two. But this won't make a great foundation for groupware (which is the reason I'm willing to get the ball rolling on this) - so I figure most of you would want some form of zclasses or object paradigm applying to this, right ? I'm also thinking of how Notes/Domino use mail. So, any ideas/requests ? Btw, I can't promise when I'll get a beta done - so if somebody else needs this soon or was planning on doing it quickly, let's talk. Also from an earlier mail that I posted with an incorrect subject line : [snip] Which brings me finally (see i wasn't just being crass) to the question and point : for Zope to be used in groupware (or in the 'mailing list archiver'), it needs to integrate with email seemlessly - as in, mail can be sent to the server (not to a person) for agents to handle. So, what's the best method of making this happen ? Send to a traditional email address (eg. using qmail or sendmail on the server) then pipe to a python script which then does what ? seems a bit yukky. [/snip] cheers, chas

The first problem I am facing is printing reports to pre printed forms loaded in dot matrix printers. The program has to drive the printer to print the info at the right spot on the form. The second problem is how to print barcode(Code39 symbology) on some documents. The barcode encodes the document number. I have found a barcode class written in Java. Possible bug in 2.0.1?

Hi all! I've been doing stuff with ZopeTime - dates and zsearching them in zcatalogs. Thanks to Michel, I've got that working...but only on Zope2.0.0 I've tested it on 2 different Zope2.0.1 sites and in each case searching for the date (even using "Catalog(date=ZopeTime(date))") turns up "no match". On the 2 _other_ Zope2.0.0 sites, this works! I have no idea what or where the problem might be but here's what I can say: Zope2.0.1 sites are all compiled from source. One running on FreeBSD and the other on Solaris Zope2.0.0 sites are both from "binary" tarballs and both running on Linux2 (Mandrake Linux 6.0) Anyone else encountered this? -- ----------------------------------------- Kuraiken - Python fanatic. ----------------------------------------- Python.
