GIS-like applications are definitely a field where Zope can shine. But most of the current MAP-Servers are interfacing with a RDBMS where a lot of the logic is placed into the database. If one thinks of geographic objects in a way of an object database like Zope, there is a different architecture needed. For example I think of a RTree indexing technic for the objects stored in the ZODB. This would open a lot of possibilities and would cure one of the problems of current GIS , where everything needs to be stored with a geographical view, which makes it sometimes cumbersome to store legacy information or data with a non gis semantic in these systems. On top of the RTree index one could build a python framework to present the geographical part of this data. Zope Book Beta

Amos and I are gibbering like madmen with excitement to announce the Zope Book Beta. This is the complete, technical draft of the book with all screenshots (but minus illustrations, those are on there way!). Some other things like a colophon and information about the authors is missing. The beta includes all completed chapters, the API reference, and the DTML reference. We've received over a hundred comments, corrections, and ideas from you the community and it has made a much better book. I am not using the ZODB as the backend, but I did have to patch GUF to get it to work with zope 2.2.2. Caveat emptor: I have no idea if this patch is really correct, I pretty much stole the little piece of code from LoginManage (which has a similar disclaimer). Zope FTP through SSH1

Hi, I'm trying to tunnel FTP connections to a Zope server through SSH1 to ensure that passwords don't get sent in the clear. (I know the session will still be unencrypted; that's okay for now.) I've followed the instructions for doing so that are available at http://www.employees.org/~satch/ssh/faq/ssh-faq-5.html#ss5.6, and doing so I can successfully create an FTP session through an SSH tunnel. The problem is, once I've logged in, Zope won't let me do anything. It responds to every valid command with a single word: 'Unauthorized.' If I connect directly to the FTP server using the same login and password, all works well. Anyone here have any ideas why this might be? Thanks for your time and assistance, rob

Switching users with loginmanager

I am having difficulties switching users with loginmanager. I have an entry page, which is lnked from an external site. The other site sets __ac_user and __ac_password before linking (through a form with method=POST). If my user follows the link, he can access the page without problems. The problem is that if he changes user in the external site and follows the link again, __ac_user is ignored, since the user is already authenticated, and from the Zope point of view it is still the same old user. Any clues about how to force re-authentication in that page? By the way, redirect will not work because I need some other fields in the POST, and I would not want them to be shown in the URL.
