Using FTP to connect to Zope server from (g)VIM

Hi all, My intellect was piqued recently by a discussion on the list about editors for Zope etc. I remember some people saynig that VIM was good, to which my response was, 'Yeah but there's no FTP built in'. Someone then responded with a few scripts to do it. Well I thought they were a bit cumbersome, so I wrote my own. ftpopen.py and ftpsave.py. If you have a VIM executable with Python support built in then these run from within VIM and allow you to open/save file from/to Zope seamlessly. (I have them on a menu in GVIM for instance) I'll put the files up on my Zope Members bit (http://www.zope.org/Members/philh) along with a few instructions. If anybody can think of any enhancements then please let me know and I'll see if I can work them in. I hope these will be useful to someone. See ya Phil phil.harris(a)zope.co.uk

Silly send mail problem

Hi all, I had a sendmail problem, whenever I send out a mail from zope, it always contain an empty "To" ,"From" and "Subject", but I was able to get the body of the mail, anyone got this problem before ?? I'm using Zope 2.1.6 on NT and the mail server is from Lotus, and the form processor syntax as below : <dtml-sendmail smtphost="mail.xyz.com" mailto="wai(a)xyz.com" mailfrom="wai(a)xyz.com" Subject="Testing from my machine"> mail body </dtml-sendmail> Thanks. manage_addFile problem

Dear all, I've got a really simple little Zope application that allows staff here to upload documents into a folder of their choice without seeing the Zope management screens. There's a form that looks like this: <form action="admin_addfiles" method="POST" enctype="multipart/form-data"> <input type="file" name="file" size="40"> etc... Question on __roles__

I have encapsulated most bits of my software in a product. One part simply shows database objects, and I've made a base class to handle most of the showing and editing stuff. In the base class, I keep a tab on what methods etc. are used for viewing and for editing, and I use these in the concrete classes to set the roles. Eg: Base.py: class Obj(OFS.SimpleItem.Item, Acquisition.Implicit, AccessControl.Role.RoleManager, AccessControl.Owned.Owned): view_objects = [] index_html = HTMLFile('default_view', globals()) view_object.append('index_html') ... etcetera Customer.py: class Obj(Base.Obj): __ac_permissions__ = ( ('View Own Info', Base.Obj.view_objects), ) ... Globals.default__class_init__(Obj) As far as I can see, this is all by the book. The whole idea is that the set of methods is the same, but the permissions on them can differ (for example, there are special restrictions on viewing and editing invoices). However, these protections don't work in most cases. They seem to work when they pertain to methods, but they don't when they pertain to DTML files. Is there something in the base class' base classes that influences how role lookup works? I've tried to trace down what happens, and found that ZPublisher.BaseRequest has a funny bit: when trying to find out the necessary roles on an object, it first tries to get the attribute '__roles__' on the subobject, and then combines the current entry name plus '__roles__' and tries to get that from the subobject. However, it seems to me that the latter getattr() needs to be done on the object, not the subobject - at least, my tracing seems to indicate that if it walks down, say 'Customer/53/index_html', that at a certain moment during the traversal object = <Customer instance> subobject = <Python method> entry_name = 'index_html' Here, looking up "index_html__roles__" in the subobject, the index_html method, doesn't seem to be very useful - it is expected to be found on the containing Customer instance. And indeed, if I change line 386 in BaseRequest.py from: roles = getattr(subobject, entry_name+'__roles__', roles) to: roles = getattr(object, entry_name+'__roles__', roles) things work as I expect them to work. As this is such a core piece of Zope, it seems quite unlikely to me that I found a bug here (although an older version of ZPublisher does check object instead of subobject). The only thing I can think of is that Acquisition should work for the getattr() and somehow I managed to disable Acquisition on these instances. Editing the z2.py File

Hi; I have my own server with virtual hosts. I'm going to build a large Web site on this server with Zope as the base platform. I intend to build more on the Zope platform, but already have several sites built without it. My question is, how do I edit the z2.py file in such a way that I can call up certain virtual hosts and not others through port 80? Also, can I build the equivalent of a doc root off of the Zope root such that Zope could act, in effect, as a virtual host, or do I need to create a separate instance of Zope for each domain? UNEXPECTED: Acquisition.Explicit may acquire implicitly

While trying to understand, what the "bself= self.aq_explicit" in "OFS.DTMLMethod.__call__" should do, I detected an unexpected behaviour: usually, this "bself" acquires implicitly from its container (though not from its context) More precisely: if "bself.aq_self" is itself an implicit acquisition wrapper, the "bself.aq_explicit" acquires implicitly from "bself.aq_self.aq_parent". The following Python module demonstrates the behaviour: ------------------------------------------------------- from Acquisition import Implicit class C(Implicit): pass b= C() b.i= 0 b.d= C() b.h= C() e_bd= b.d.aq_explicit try: e_bd.i print 'e_bd implicitly acquired i' except AttributeError: pass e_bhd= b.h.d.aq_explicit try: e_bhd.i print 'e_bhd implicitly acquired i' except AttributeError: pass ------------------------------------------------------- At first, I thought this were a bug. At second thought, however, it appears to be quite natural, though unexpected: if o is self.__of__(parent), then getattr(o.aq_explicit,k) = getattr(self,k).__of__(o) If "self" is an implicit wrapper itself, then acquisition may be used to look up "k". This implies, that the idiom <dtml-if "_.hasattr(o.aq_explicit,XXXX)"> cannot be used safely to test, whether "o" has attribute XXXX itself (rather than acquired it). We probably should have a standard function for this kind of test. Dieter

Hi all, Does anyone have any plans for CPAN like functionality for Zope? I'd just love to install new products, update products already installed, get notified when I need a Hotfix etc. The product listing at Zope.org is getting longer all the time and I am having a hard time keeping up to date... Just a thought. Probably been thought of before :) Cya Jonathan
