'image' directory relocation

i have a server running apache, with zope running on a specified port number. when i first created the documents i wanted to run in zope, i created a directory for images and the like in the zodb. after studying the structure of my site, i've decided i'd rather have the images directory in the server's folder system as opposed to the zodb. moving the images and such is no problem, however, the linkage from the documents to the images is going to be a big one. is there a way to set up something like a symbolic link from the images directory in the zodb to the images directory in the server folder system so i don't have to go in and manually modify the path for each image?

Using a database connection from an external method

I'm still figuring out how to integrate stuff in and out of Zope, and thanks to all the people who gave me the friendly advice that I should stay away from storing blobs in databases (I kind of knew that already, but guess I was to busy worrying about marshalling things in and out of Zope). Anyway, what I am trying to do now is create an external method that will receive the REQUEST object with some fields AND the uploaded file. This external method will insert a record into an SQL table and return a unique ID which I will use for the filename for storing the image in the local filesystem (I am not worried about LOTS of images in a single directory - that can be solved by a more intelligent filesystem [ReiserFS?] or by some clever directory indexing). Assuming I am able to pull this off, it should be quite easy to pull the image back in again using the LocalFS product or my own external method. I guess the external method will be run in the same process and thread as the Zope process itself, so I would really like to get hold of the database connection from my database connection instance in Zope. >From searching the lists, I have learned: * How to get the ZODB instance using self._p_jar; but this is not what I need. I need to get the database object for my MySQL database, not ZODB * How to call ZSQL methods from external methods by simply doing self.someZSQLmethod The last method would probably work, but since adding something to my database table really consists of a database insert, then getting the unique ID returned and using this for stuffing an image into the local filesystem, I would prefer to keep this all in the same External method. So the question then is: How can I obtain the database connection to the external database (the "Z MySQL Database Connection" in my case)? And I do not mean the connection to ZODB. Hi there, Thanks all for your help. I got it working by keeping my old configuration in the ODBC Control Panel settings and using 'gsmInfo testowner PASSWORD' as the connect string in Zope. How do I get the owner of a document?

Hi, may be I am just to dumb or something like that, but Zope has to now who is the owner of a certain document. This is for sure, but how can I get the owner of a document from DTML or an external method? I read through the sources and maybe I am just to dumb or so to find it, but I can't find any manage_* call, that tells me how to do this? I have to write a small DTML method, that finds all documents, that are located in a givben hierachie which are owned by a certain user. Bye and many thanks, OLiver P.S.: Don't frustrated that I ask these things again and again, but now I have to deal with things in Zope, that I haven't dealt with before. ;-))))

ZCatalog woes

I would like to know why the following happens, and what I can do to fix it: I have a ZCatalog instance in my root folder called Catalog. I have some CatalogAware ZClasses that get added to it automatically. The problem is, when I query Catalog for results, it only shows the elements that were present the last time I clicked the "Update" button in ZCatalog. The new elements are present in the catalog, but they don't show up in the query until I manually update the catalog. does zope's undo & version have access control?

I create a folder 'Folder1' under '/',then give 'undo changes' Permission of 'Folder1'to user 'test1';The I made some operation under Folder '/' BUT all changes made by user 'root' can be undo by user 'test1'; Can I control the UNDO permissin? the version has the same promblem. does zope's undo & version have access control?
