Martijn, you're right. Nobody would use Win98 on production systems. But quite a few people use it on their notebooks or home PCs for development, I guess. At least that is what I do. If your assumption that a Windows cache problem is the reason for the data loss, is right, that would mean that Win98 must be holding the whole DATA.FS in memory/virtual memory without saving for hours! In that case it might be a good idea to warn everybody to shutdown and restart Zope under Windows 9x after major changes. BTW: So far, I've never lost data when I just "killed" the Zope process. So Windows seems to save data at least in that case ... Joachim. To have meaningful tracability in zope means have some system whereby a representation of the zodb exists in source control and any changes by users are automatically reflected in the source control. The ability for the source control versions to be imported back into Zope would be a plus. Modifying Standard Error Pages

I'm currently trying to modify Zope's standard error pages in order to have errors (such as 404 not founds or DTML errors) e-mailed to the webmaster as they occur. At first, I thought this would be as simple as modifying the standard_error_message document found in the root of the Zope installation, but it appears that changes to the file do not get displayed (even after forced refreshes) and thus it doesn't seem to be in use. A search on zope.org lead me to find the real error message embedded in <zopedir>/lib/python/OFS/Application.py - I've modified this and it appears to work, but doesn't support HTTP related errors such as 404s. After a bit of a search, I've tracked down HTTP-related error reports to <zopedir>/lib/python/ZPublisher/HTTPResponse.py but, while this can be modified, it doesn't support DTML as the HTML error message is returned without apparently being parsed by Zope. As a result, I can't have dtml-sendmail send an error message report. Okay, I could modify HTTPResponse.py to send a mail using something like Python's smtplib, but before I do that, have I overlooked the obvious and is there really a much cleaner, easier way to modify the error pages without delving into the sources? ZODB or xySQL?

Hello Zopistas out there! I just stumbled about the threadsafety of different SQL-DAs. I'm coming from mod_perl + MySQL so it seemed a natural choice for me to also run Zope with MySQL in the background. I'm doing research (= low budget) in clinical psychology and have people fill in all kinds of questionnaires regularly which I have to store somewhere later. Looking at some past messages it seems to me that free and speedy MySQL is awfully bottlenecked by MySQLdb and financially-out-of-range Oracle rules. But how big is the difference? Does anybody know? It also came to my mind that I might be missing an important feature of Zope: ZODB. For some reason (lack of marketing?) I just didn't realize that there is a database behind Zope that I could use to store my stuff. Last night I read some documentation but I have some questions left open: Can I access ZODB via TCP/IP socket to retrieve data for statistical calculations? What about performance? Ragnar Beer

[Newbie] Document unviewable

Hello, I still can't figure out why my DTML document gives me the following Zope error : Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: __call__ when I ask Zope to view it as the document is in a sub-folder, but viewable without problem when the document is in the root folder. Well, I don't think that is the optimum solution, especially for big sites. Even though that is the Zope way of doing things, I hate the idea that I clutter my ZODB with files. I would suggest you add a property called attachments to your Class which points to various URLs and then serve the files via Apache. You may want to use PCGI to do this. We just switched to PCGI and now we serve Images and Documents from another port via Apache (we can also use SSL now). That helps to keep the I/O stream to the ZODB file moderate. Remember, ZODB is just big one file (even though Zope does a lot of caching). You could also check into LocalFS, which is nice in some cases (even though we were unsuccessful to upload files, using it.) ZSQL Method Size?

I have been using <dtml-in sqlMethod size=4 query=start_query> and I find that 80% of the time it will return 4 results but sometimes, for no apparent reason it will return 5 or 6. This is happening with a few of my ZSQL Methods? Bug or am I going crazy? JMA
