Hi! I have an ExtensionClass(es) question and, being the latest releases of them distributed with Zope, I decided to ask it here. Situation: 1) Class A subclasses 2+ extension classes E = {E1,...,En} and perhaps another non extension classes C = {C1,...,Cm}. That is, class A(B1,...,Bk): ...., where B1,...,Bk are each in E or in C. 2) a is an instance of A (a = A()) 3) a.foo(bar) is invoked 4) getattr is invoked in the first extension class in the inherited classes list (i.e. the first Bi belonging to E) Question: What happens then? I guess that calling Py_FindMethod (inside getattr implementation) will trigger a search in instance and base classes' dictionaries, but what about the other extension base classes and what about the searching order? I can't find any doc on these, so I'm needing your help. Warning! 2.1.5 breaks the ZODBC adapter product. I tried it several ways - even with a new database connection. Also reinstalling it does not help.

compare two dates

Hi all! Sorry for this more python less zope question. Lets say I have this two strings: "13 Feb 2000 20:37:06 GMT" and "Fri, 21 Jan 2000 11:29:10 +0000" I want to compare them has dates and not strings with the built-in cmp() func. What type of cast, conversion can I do. Or what module can I use for this. easy questions (1 zcatalog 1 zserver console?)

when I was cataloging my zope site and was editing i did get a conflict 'competing' writes, which reminded me: how many times does ZOPE try to write to the ZODB and then 'fails' and roll's back - is it 3? assuming this size is configurable where would I go and change this? when i was cataloging i got this: 2000-03:20T03:24:27 ERROR(200) ZODB Couldn't load state for '\000\000\000\000\000\000\350\217' <- this happens right before the competing writes. could someone explain what this \xxx\yyy\zzz is? and how do I redirect ZServer's console to a file? I'm in DOS right now (havent done this in awhile) - and tried to "C:\Program Files\WebSite\bin\python.exe" "C:\Program Files\WebSite\z2.py" -D %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 %8 %9 > C:\temp\zope.log that didnt work.. In linux I've tried redirectings stderr and stdout to a file and i believe it still wouldnt didnt work. thanks, ~alan

etcUserFolder

Zopistas and MikeP, I'm trying to use etcUserFolder, and I want it to actually authenticate off of /etc/shadow. saying /etc/shadow as the Password File doesn't work, presumably because Zope is running as nobody. Is there any way I can let just etcUserFolder run as shadow? Zope and simple HTML documents

[Absolute beginner's question...] I'm thinking to use Zope for an Internet site I have to develop for an internal client. They will just receive a PC Box from me and will know nothing about the technology in it. I wonder if I can safely allow them to drop HTML documents inside Zope. This would allow to publish their own simple HTML documents without worring about DTML and the like (I do not think they are interested in developing their own DTML-enabled sites...). Is it Zope able to handle plain HTML+CSS+JavaScript documents, without having to use any DTML file? Can the user just drop a HTML document in a server directory and have this document published on the intranet? How can I determine the directory they can use? Debian Zope Broken!!!

I have fixed this at my site (it was a case of 1 missing space in a python file) but the current Zope dpkg in debian frozen (potato) is broken! After doing an apt-get upgrade (which I do periodically to get security fixes for our server) Zope would not start. Trying it manually, I saw: zaibach:/home/glyph# /etc/init.d/zope start Starting Zope...inconsistent dedent File "/usr/sbin/zope-z2", line 571 else: ^ SyntaxError: invalid token failed. worldpilot problem.

I'm having a problem with worldpilot when checking my work email. I know I have worldpilot installed correctly, as I have it checking my home email. I know work has IMAP, as I can use it in Netscape.. I log into worldpilot, and then the page taht normally has the list of emails in the inbox folder comes up, but with a Zope error message... dtml-let and MySQL

Hi, I've tried to write one generic SQL method and passing argument to my SQL method using dtml-let but I got KeyError. I've tried it with dtml-with also but same thing. In my page I use: <dtml-let curpage=total> <dtml-call hitinsert> </dtml-let> and MySQL method is: update zp_stat set <dtml-var curpage> = <dtml-var curpage> + 1 What I want to do, is passing mySQL argument and using one method. Ex: <dtml-let curpage=astro> <dtml-call hitinsert> </dtml-let> total and astro are INT in my SQL table. I dont know if dtml-let is a right way? Any suggestion to do this? Fwd: How do I set properties from DTML? (Repost)

I'm reposting due to mail problems of my provider ... I'm working on a thing I'll probably call "ZBox"; it's a "widget method" that creates HTML-table based boxes on the screen that can be maximized and minimized, like the ones on some of the big web portals. My first simple try with just using Folders, two methods, and properties, worked quite well. I created a method that looks up whether the box is minimized or maximized and renders it respectively. The box itself is a (currently empty) folder that has a property "max" that can be "show" or "hide" (could also be boolean, but I'm thinking of other states like "just show headlines"). The content would then be rendered by other methods that are called in a "content" method by the "box" method. Using those boxes on the site curently looks like this (for a folder "news_box" containing the content): <dtml-with news_box> <dtml-var box> </dtml-with> The problem I could not solve with my very limited Zope knowledge is how to "switch" the boxes from minimized to maximized et vice versa. In other words, I'd need a DTML expression that I can put into a method that is called by a hyperlink on the "minimize/maximize" button to switch the property state and then returns the site again. The two problems are: How can I set a property in DTML (REQUEST.set won't work as far as I can see it)? Namespaces could be quite tricky with that. Where should one put the method to update the property status? The tricky thing is that after the update the site from where the request came has to be re-rendered! I know I could switch to cookies or SQL-based stuff. But that wouldn't make the solution flexible for use with Zope objects. Am I on the right path? If the whole thing doesn't work out that way I could try using my own tree tag version that renders a box instead of the "+"/"-" stuff). Doesn't sound that easy. Thanks a lot for suggestions!
