Hello everyone: I have posted the second part (Use Cases) of the zope memepool project at http://zope.sistelnet.es/memez The final goal of this project is to have a completely functional memepool-like application, product or whatever, built completely from scratch, using Zope. The project tries to use a completle Object Oriented approach to development, and (since I am no Zope guru) feeds from user comments and recommendations. Please have a look. html_quote and url_quote

Zopists, Are there any other quoting methods besides html_quote and url_quote? I am looking for something that turns periods and minus signs to an alternative as well. ZODB question, again

ok, persistent fool that i am, i'm still trying to figure out how to use ZODB in an External Method to do some simple (ha!) database stuff. so i built a very simple app, to implement a counter. each time you invoke the "Count" method, you get a number back, and it increments. running the script (see below) by hand, it works fine. referencing it from Zope, using this dtml fragment: <dtml-var "Count( 'chickens' )"> or just pointing my browser at: http://kestrel.sage.att.com:8080/Garry/ZODB/Count?name=chickens to reference an External Method called Count, which refers to the Count function in this script, i get: Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: Counter if i then click the reload button, i get: Could not lock the database file. NEWBIE: dtml-in and subobjects

So... I'm sure the answer to this question is painfully obvious, but I've pounded on the docs and I can't find it for the life of me. I have created a subclass as per the instuctions in the Zope Developers Guide. I am doing this specificly to avoid my inner class polluting the global product list. (There will ulimately be a large number of these inner classes if I can figure this out.) So far, so good. Using the dtml-var tag I can display any property of any instance of my newly created subclass. But I also need to build a table that iterates though all instances of this subclass and displays several of it's properties. I suspect this involves the use of the dtml-in tag, but I can't for the life of me figure out what the syntax should look like. The discussion of dtml-in tag seems to imply a list of objects in a folder, and what I have is a list of subobjects in an object. Hints anyone? How-To? FAQ? TIA, Geoffrey L. Wright

I had to play around to get mime stuff to work right. I needed to email messages to about 1500 people. Every person reaceived a couple of documents that were the same, and each person received one document that was unique for that individual. I also through in a timer loop to provide a one minute delay between each email message. (Our mail server could not handle the load.) I am enclosing the code that worked for me. Of course ymmv :) pull_contacts : this is an sql method which pulls user information out of an Access database. Most of the variables listed come out of this database. dtml-log : I used the logger product to create some logs so that I could see that my mail messages went out. I don't think this worked the way I wanted it to work. mime tag : I added some custom code to the mime stuff because the mime stuff does not add the mime version 1.0 header. This may not cause problems for everyone else, but it does cause problems for HP OpenMail and Lotus Notes. I do not know if anyone has fixed this in the standard zope code, but it was not working when I did this mailout. "_[QUESTION].data" : this was what I had to do to pull in the unique object for each individual. SiteAccess breaks FTP!

Hi, I'm trying to sort out the relative URLs of some virtually hosted Zope sites. In a nutshell, there some sites visible to the outside world as www.site1.com, www.site2.com, etc These are in /site1, /site2, etc folders off Zope's root. The redirection is done using Apache's Proxy method, but I need to sort out BASE, URL, and absolute_url() type things, which I'm doing using the following Site Access Rule: <dtml-in virtual_hosts> <dtml-if "REQUEST.environ['HTTP_HOST']==_['sequence-item']"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('SiteRootPATH','/')"> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> and blank SiteRoot objects in /site1, /site2, etc. The only problem is that since I did this, I get the following whenever I try to FTP into Zope (which used to work fine and which we use quite heavily for content editing with Dreamweaver): 550 Could not list directory. Why do I get this? How do I stop it happening? (preferably without stopping using SiteAccess...) If anyone has any experience with this, I'd appreciate the help... Chris

Lost Objects after System Crash (Zope 2.1.5 on Win32)

Hello, I upgraded to Zope 2.1.5 (Win 32) Saturday and carried out changes in the database (eg. created new ZClasses, added ZClass instances, etc.) I had a nasty system crash (Win 95) around midnight Saturday. When I reopened Zope I realised the database was back to its 16:22 status: - All new objects had vanished. - The last transaction logged in the Undo list is dated about 16:22. - The very Data.fs in the filesystem is stamped 16:22 if you can believe it. I checked the Z2.log and it shows these missing changes. So I didn't dreamt doing them. I suppose these changes are lost? Cheers. Alexandre

Site Access Rules and Permissions

Hi, I have the following access rule: <dtml-if "_.has_key('virtual_host') and REQUEST.environ['HTTP_HOST']==virtual_host"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.setURL(path='/')"> </dtml-if> The idea being that if a folder represents a virtual host (see the thread 'REQUEST vraible methods' on this list for background...) you can just give that folder a virtual_host property which the above rule checks for, and if it matches that in the header, if sets the base path to '/'. However, if I try and access any folder with this rule in it, I get challenged for authentication and get 'Authorization failed' no matter what username and password I use, including the root ones! What is going on? Chris
