Aiieeee!!!! How do I get Zope/Python to produce a core

With my Zope server crashing about 6 times a day, how can I get the durned thing to generate a core file? I have this in my start script: #! /bin/bash reldir=`dirname $0` PYTHONHOME=`cd $reldir; pwd` export PYTHONHOME STUPID_LOG_FILE=$PYTHONHOME/var/event.log export STUPID_LOG_FILE ulimit -c unlimited ulimit -a /usr/bin/python \ $PYTHONHOME/z2.py \ "$@" Which produces this on startup: core file size (blocks) unlimited data seg size (kbytes) unlimited file size (blocks) unlimited max memory size (kbytes) unlimited stack size (kbytes) 8192 cpu time (seconds) unlimited max user processes 2048 pipe size (512 bytes) 8 open files 1024 virtual memory (kbytes) 2105343 But when I crash with an Aiieeeee error 11, I get no core file. Box is Redhat 6.1 2.2.12-20. I'm able to generate core files from some trashy c code just fine. -Jon

Symbolic Links in ZODB

Hi. Is there a proposed way how to realize symbolic links in Zope. I mean, how to place one instance of an object into more than one folder? This is quite important to information organisation IMHO. CYa, Mario

Issue Tracker Product "iTrack" 0.2.0 Released

(Apologies if you're seeing this a second time. I'm having problems with the mailer) Hooray! My First Product. http://www.zope.org/Members/shalabh/iTrack/ iTrack is an Issue Tracking System. It allows a team of people to keep track of various issues about a project (or anything else under the Sun worth tracking issues about, for that matter). Currently this is in development stage (Version 0.2.0) but usable, as long as you follow the instructions. questions about zope, netscape web server and certificates

Hello all! I have been posting questions every couple of months concerning digital certificates and different types of authorization capabilities. I think I have finally convinced some people to look at using zope here at work. Does anyone have any tips or hints for using Zope with Netscape web server on HP-UX 10.2? I don't have any way to test this before I get started, and I need to have my ducks in a row before I start telling someone else how to make Zope work (I don't have access to the machine that will host Zope). I have used Zope on WinNT to display data from an Access database, and I have played around with Zope on Linux (I did not have time to recreate my Access database on Linux). One of the things that I am trying to accomplish besides just trying to get people to use Zope for more general stuff: 1. I need to allow users to login to Zope to approve requests for items (I am looking at using LoginManager, Wizards and ZopePTK) 2. I need to use digital certificates for authentication (Verisign has a module for Netscape web server which allows for certificate lookups to verify that the certifcate is valid and issued by us) 3. I need to pass through the user information from Netscape so that I can keep track of the user who is approving a request. 4. requests and approvals/denials will probably be stored in a rdbms, but some information may need to be stored in zodb for searches Clarence T. DocumentTemplate Zen (QUEST)

Hi everybody, I'm struggling with some concepts in Zope. The last one is the DocumentTemplate.HTMLFIle behavior. I was trying to run the Zen 'The (old) Product API Tutorial' examples when I came accross with this line of code that looked strange for me (maybe I don't know python enough): index_html = DocumentTemplate.HTMLFile('poll2.dtml') ... p = Poll("What's for breakfast?", ['spam', 'eggs', 'toast']) print p.index_html(p) ------------------^^^ It worked fine and rendered my form. But what looked strange to me was to give p as an argument. So I tried p.index_html: it gave me the dtml file (with < for < and so on). So fine depending on whether or not you provide an argument the rendering is different. I tried to read the sources to understand better that behavior. I read somethings about passing mapping object or keywords arguments. But the question is: As p.index_html is a DocumentTemplate.HTMLFile instance why can we provide it with arguments like if it were a method or if we were instantiating a class?

XXX-PythonMethods caveats?

Hi all, I'm using Evan Simpsons' XXX-PythonMethods with great results (after a few false starts due to my ignorance!). However, in Guarded.py we have the following; # BEWARE OF THE LEOPARD! # Set 'do_XXX' true to allow creation of XXXPythonMethods # and ADD A MASSIVE GAPING SECURITY HOLE to Zope. # DON'T DO THIS unless you use secure connections for ALL OF # YOUR ADMINISTRATION or are RECKLESS and/or FEARLESS. # Even if you DON'T create ANY XXXPythonMethods, just turning this # on will PUT YOU AT RISK BIGTIME! Of course, I then set do_XXX=1 :) I only ever run my Zope servers under a non-priviledged account. Can anyone explain what sort of leopards I should look out for, as I can see that I'd want to use XXX-PythonMethods for a lot more things. Here is an update on DTML Templates, and a more in depth explanation of how they work. ** Update ** I've updated the DTMLTemplate product to allow commenting out block definitions and importing blocks using keyword arguments to the blocks() method. The new version is 0.3.0 Find DTMLTemplate at: http://www.zope.org/Members/halazar/Products/DTMLTemplate ** More Information ** Yesterday, Jonothan Farr (jfarr(a)real.com) asked about the differences between Templates and the var tag. Here's a short summary. The Template product consists of the "dtml-block" tag and the "DTML Template" document type. In a normal document, the dtml-block described below:: <dtml-block myblock> Block contents </dtml-block> works exactly like the following dtml:: <dtml-if myblock> <dtml-var myblock> <dtml-else> Block contents </dtml-if> In addition, blocks can be used to insert structured text directly into a DTML document (see the documentation for details):: <dtml-block mytext fmt="structured-text"> * this is * structured text! </dtml-block> DTML Templates use blocks in an additional way: to define DTML Methods that other objects can use. If the Template 'templ' contains the following lines:: <dtml-block myblock> Block contents </dtml-block> <dtml-block anotherblock> Another Block </dtml-block> Other, extraneous text. then 'templ' will have two block methods that other documents can access in this way:: <dtml-var "templ.myblock"> -> "Block contents" <dtml-var "templ.anotherblock"> -> "Another Block" Any document can also import all of the blocks of a Template into a local namespace:: <dtml-with "templ.blocks()"> <dtml-var myblock> <dtml-var anotherblock> </dtml-with> You can also refine blocks using Templates:: <dtml-block myblock> <dtml-var "templ.myblock"> with more stuff added </dtml-block> <dtml-var templ> yields:: Block contents with more stuff added Another block ** How is this stuff useful? ** I created Templates because I couldn't design complex and attractive web pages for Zope using Dreamweaver. I was always pulling out little chunks of HTML and putting them into individual methods. These chunks weren't valid HTML documents, so I couldn't edit them individually. With Templates, I create one document with all the HTML code I need, and block out regions of the HTML using dtml-block. I upload the templates (once!) to Zope, and instantly I've changed the definitions of all the template's block methods. If I need to make further changes, I can do it quickly in Dreamweaver. link checker with Zope

Does anyone know how to use link checkers with Zope or know any link checker that will work with Zope ? My site has submission to my database that contains http links. I want to verify to see if they work. better yet any link checker that will connect to a postgres db and check tables for links and verify it. Thanks
