and to other objects <dtml-var imagename> gives me <image src=imagename" width="123" height="456"> How can I get other attributes in there (such as BORDER=0). If I do the <image src=imagename explicitly I have to fill in the dimensions by hand (they are not the default ones). Also, is there a general mechanism for doing this sort of thing? DTMLTemplate product 0.2.0 released

I've just released my first development version of DTMLTemplates. You can find the distribution at: http://www.zope.org/Members/halazar/Products/DTMLTemplate DTML Templates are documents that allow blocks of text to be named and made available to other documents. The basic building block of templates is the DTML "block" tag, which can also be used with other DTML document types. Templates export their blocks. Another new tag, the "suppress" tag, allows block definition without rendering. Here are several nice features of blocks and templates that I believe will greatly benefit the Zope community (several of these items have come up recently in Zope email discussions): * defines libraries of methods in one file, * allows structured text formatting in a DTML document, * allows pieces of multiple documents to be combined, * allows complex web designs created with HTML editors to be used as templates, * provides template elements that encourage proper nesting of markup tags. In short, I think that Templates offer great promise for the Zope and Zope developers. This release is a very early one, though. A construct as fundamental as this one may need both syntactic and structural tweaks to function in the most useful way, and only with discussion can we figure that way out. User Role, Authentication, HTTP

Hi, I have the following situation: (1) I'd like to use Zope's security model, so I can prevent unauthorized users from accessing contents in subfolders. (2) I want to keep user name and password in a database, not in acl_users folder. (Basically, I would like ZODB to be read-only. So I can't add users into acl_users, I have to add users into my own database.) (3) I don't want to use the pop-up dialog box to enter the user name and password. I want to do it through HTTP form interface. So, what can I do? Is there a way in Python to tap into ZODB Authentication? I mean, I could create a generic user for the purpose of ZODB user authentication, and then activate the ZODB generic user from the HTML authentication. Or is there a way to add a role to the current AUTHENTICATED_USER, dynamically? This problem seems common enough that people have probably addressed it before. zope objects in python : map() and filter()

I have a few questions as to how to map zope objcts in python, and I'm looking for help with this particular example. I am trying to create a python method that will take one argument, a string variable. It will then find the people that match and return a list with each of the person's data. I have found two methods that come close to doing what I am after. The first one returns all of the people data, including all the variables, and the second one filters out the people I don't want, but only returns the ids. I've tried switching aroung the map(None,self.ids) to map(None,self.data) and I get typerrors from lambda. I don't fully understand how this is working or what the data looks like to the interpreter, but I know I'm close Can anyone help? dtml-in iteration over a string.split

I've put the following in a SQL method, but can't figure out where the count ends up... <dtml-in "_.string.split(tool_id)"> tool_id is a string (like 'EXP01 EXP02 EXP03'). For my normal DB activities I use count-attribute name for the count total, but I can't seem to find out where the count is stored in this example... I tried getting the key with sequence-key, which returned 1, but count-1 returns 0. I've solved this already with <dtml-if expr="_.len(_.string.split(tool_id)) > 1"> but this bothers me.... I know theres a better way!

HELP dtml-sendmail & file attachments

Hi, Could anyone point me to any code snippets, which allows a user to add a file attachment to a sendmail form. I tryed the code in the user documentation, and the attachment is a .dat file which contains the path name to the attached file?!? Problems with dtml-in batch variables.

Greetings, I am using the ever-so-handy next-sequence-* and previous-sequence-* variables for a batched list. This all seems to work fine, allowing users to look through bite-sized portions of the list. However, there seems to be a problem. Whatever calculates these values appears to assume that the numbers are sequential, which, in my case, they are not. So, whilst i get the correct number of items each time, they overlap when they shouldn't, and the next/previous limits are reported incorrectly. The dtml-in tag in question is : <dtml-in "sqlQueryHere()" size=4 start=qs orphan=0> Any comments? -- Have a better one, Curtis. <dtml-var standard_work_disclaimer>

Enhydra anyone?

Hi, Is there any comparison between Enhydra (Java-based open-source application server) and Zope (Python-base open-source application server)? I guess Zope and Enhydra are colliding head-on. :) Can anyone give a little bit more background to Enhydra? Zope site used to have a page about comparisons (like with PHP), now I cannot find that page. Having worked with Java (and previously with C++), I must say that I don't have a positive opinion about Java. I know Enhydra has this "open source" thingy and even tries its best at painting "worldwide developer hall of fame" stuff, but it seems kind of corny. I just don't think you can do open source well enough with a language like Java which was designed by the corportate and for the corporate. It's not that Zope is excellent, it's not. But Python's CP4E (computer programming for everyone) approach eventually will make it longer lasting than anything else, (especially after Python 2 comes out) and I just don't see how Java can survive in the long run. As for Zope, I guess in the long run it will need a major re-work, otherwise it will lost the competitive edge. zopistas, how would I write a dtml_method to render a objects history (undoable transactions/revisions)? any insight is much appreciated. how about being able to export the objects history (revisions) via XML and then I could pack and then reimport it into ZODB (or is this complete madness? ) - this way I can still pack and keep revisions around of specific objects... i.e. I would like to keep all objects revisions but need to PACK the DB (because its overwhelming large) -- what is the way, masters de zope? many thanks, george runyan grunyan(a)emerging.com
