The weird part here is that the python method had just created the directory in question and the UID on that file is "nobody". So even though the process is the owner of the file it still does not have permission to change the GID. Is there a way to specify what group Zope/Python is running under. What kinds of problems would be associated with changing the group to something other that root? Time Stamping

We are very aware of the problem - resource availability at DC is currently the biggest bottleneck in getting problems resolved, getting features added, etc. And that's just with Zope itself - when you think about the multitude of various database adapters and other components out there, it's obvious that the more popular Zope becomes, the less likely it is that we could possibly keep up with it all, even throwing all of our ever-growing resources at it. The Answer of course is the decision that we have taken - that Zope needs to truly be developed "in the fishbowl", that we need to open the development process and provide the infrastructure required to allow community members to champion their own issues and remove DC as the bottleneck. People with vested interest in a component such as a particular DA should be able to take the lead on that component, have real ownership and control their own destinies. "Ok - that sounds great, but WHEN?" you may be reasonably saying to yourself. We made the decision some time ago that this is the way that we need to go, but the resources to make it happen are just now becoming available. We are even now working on figuring out the best way to "get there from here". The devil is, as always, in the details, and I expect to start soliciting opinions from the Zope community soon to resolve some of those devilish details and get to work on implementing the open development process. Why so many problems with database adapters?

I know this is a moot issue: "... since developing database adapters doesn't contribute to our revenue, we won't spend time on it." But currently the database adapters have problems. I have tried SybaseDAv2 and ZODBC. A few problems have been reported to the Collector with patches. But no actions taken on the part of Digicool, for a long time. This reminds me of Java's Bug Parade... which was rather frustrating... you reported a bug, crossed your fingers, and hopefully in 4 or 5 months it would get fixed... this after your commercial project already got killed. Yes, you fixed the bug, but I am no longer using Java. :) Is there another way of loosening the tight control of release of products? If Digicool does not have the man-power for taking care of release of some component, why not figure out a way for others to jump in and do the fixes? Why repeat the mistakes and shortcomings of the Java Bug Parade system? Is there a way somehow of linking in the product pages to some sort of user feedback? It will be more honest to let new users become aware of the problems of the current products and where they can find the patches. Currently, a new user happily download a product with the false hope that it will work properly. If there is some sort of user-comment (like Amazon's book review), then the user would know what problems there are with the current release of the product, and whether there are patches already made by someone. A publicly visible user feedback would also probably accelerate the fixes of products, be they made by Digicool or any outside people. I guess a message bulletin board linked to each individual product gives much better help than letting new users wade through tons of mailing list messages. (Product owners can remove nasty or unappropriate feedback messages, if necessary.) On one hand Zope advertises that it has database adapters to most databases, on the other hand we know that these adapters have problems that sit unfixed. "Views" in the managerment interface

Zopists, What determines whether or not a user can see a "View" in the management interface. Is it permissions in the ZClass mapped to something, or is it the permissions of the actual document itself? NT + Zope ==> Sql Server 7.0

Yellow, I have an NT box running Zope 2.1.6 and ZODBC I'm trying to connect to a remote server running SQL Server 7.0 Everything fine until I try a connection and I have this in response: 'Invalid connection string: conn_name' I tested the connection within the ODBC Driver in control panel and it is fine but the ZODBC can't connect to the remote SQL Server. Line Breaks

Is there a way Zope can recognize line breaks? Essentially for this reason: <dtml-if (there's a line break or blank line)> <p> </dtml-if> So when uploading a text document Zope will automatically insert <p> tags when neccessary.
