Zope performance and memory usage

Our Linux Zope 2.1.4 is consuming about 23 MB RAM memory per thread, running at 4+1 threads, this means over 100 MB. Is this normal? Have there been any recent discussions on this topic? That creates a whole Wiki Web with all the DTML methods and other objects already there in a folder. It would be cool if there was something similar in the ZWiki Product package, but that allowed you to replace the methods that get cloned and put in the new folder. The component that does this is called the Splitter, and it is currently written in C. In the CVS there is a new mechanism for abstracting out language dependent features, like splitting, into various Vocabulary objects. I want to make it as trivial as possible for an average programmer to create Vocabulary objects for their language of choice. Right now there are some prototypes doing Japanese, and I and the guys at Digital Garage have done some research on the similar Chinese problem. I am contemplating checking in Brian Hooper's ExtensionClass patch to the Splitter, so that the splitter can be subclasses in python. While more useful, I don't think this will gain much; the Splitter is very english centric and not very extensible (to solve, for example, the japanese problem) and subclassers would need to re-implement most of it in python anyway, so there is no big win. I think that the existing C splitter should be internationalized. That will show you the keys and values of all the form, cookie, and CGI environment objects, as well as any that you've set(). Older versions of Zope (pre-2.1.2, IIRC) allowed you to view the REQUEST object of a document/method by appending REQUEST to its URL: http://path/to/some/object/REQUEST. If you really want *everything* in the namespace (including built-in modules, etc.), you could make an external method to loop over the objects returned by the python globals() function. hth, -- Marcus

Dear group. Just installed Zope and PCGI on a RH 6.2 system. Everything looks good except that I can't login??? I saw that this might be due to that my Apache can't Authenticate CGI. How do I make this work? Regards Gordon

multi key dtml-in sorts

<dtml-in "foo" sort=akey> is really handy as everyone knows. I needed to sort on multiple fields for an application I have, so I hacked at lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_In.py so the following now appears to work <dtml-in "foo" sort=akey1,akey2,akey3> This is only VERY lightly tested which is why I'm posting it here. If anyone needs this, please try it - but NOT on a production server. Please let me know how you go. If it proves useable, I'd suggest it eventually might be worth considering for a future release since without this patch, if you need multiple keys you have to fake them in your data which is cruel.. I haven't even tried the mapping version code and I suspect that it's unlikely to work, but, in the spirit of opensource, for those of a self destructive urge and strong stomach, here's the diff. This is highly experimental..PLEASE don't even think about using this unless you're willing to clean up any mess that results. All care, no responsibility. Hi, OK, part of my zope pages are inserted from another site (like frames, but without frames). What must make my product is taking these external pages, treating the HTML code and print it with some new features. When the user clicks a link of this inserted page, I want to intercept the request, treat the URL to go and searsh the HTML code to insert it in my page. Is it possible to do it??? How???
