Passing values to a ZClass method in DTML?

I've just finshed up V3 of the ActiveImage Product and want to add a method which will allow overriding arguments to be passed in the dtml similar to a ZOPE Image's ".tag" function. ex: <dtml-with myActiveImage> <dtml-var "tag( link='http://domain' )"> </dtml-with> The above would render the object as it normally would, but would use the given "link" value rather than the object's property value for "link". My problem is I that when an object method is called this way, the entire REQUEST of the object is replaced, denying accessing to the object's Property values and Methods. If I were to try <dtml-var id> it wouldn't work because that property (id) wasn't supplied in the var tag. I'm looking to only replace the properties given in the var tag, leaving everything else untouched. How can this be done? Thanks, kh

I'm not sure when the expand_all will render correctly. It was submitted last month. I'll bet I didn't have the answers you were looking for, but someone will. DTML Tree + SQL problem

If you've just put an SQL statement between the quotes then you have an understanding problem of how Zope works ;-) Can you post me (or the list) the SQL method and the DTML method. Degrees of Separation

Under the heading of "How to create a maintainable Zope Site", I have copied the following from the "HighlyAvailableZope zWicki", in hopes of getting some feedback from the CZGs (Certifiable Zope Gurus) who frequent this list. ; ) The topic is part of a page called "DevTestProd" which poses questions about a common Development Environment, where multiple stages of Develop, Test, Production are enforced, so that Application Code is thoroughly verified prior to "roll-out". "Conceptually it seems obvious that a Zope Application Framework would require minimal updating if all components are carefully designed to keep Content separate from Presentation. That is, "data / document" items should be stored in some type of "database", rather than ZODB. This way users can add / update / delete such items without making any changes in the Zope Application Framework itself. An advantage of strict adherance to this principle is that updating, or "promoting" within the DevTestProd sequence involves nothing more than replacing the current Zope "storage" (default=data.fs) with the latest version. The next question that comes to mind, "How to implement this simple concept, in the real Zope world?" But before we get to that, is this actually valid? As for "traditional" tabular data, this is straightforward, and clearly correct. However, with respect to "documents", isn't ZODB intended to be used as the primary storage? Current DC documentation refers to Zope's ability to store these Webbish, non-traditional data types, which are more object-like than tabular data, as Zope objects, within the ZODB itself. If Zope Application Framework components, and Zope Content are both stored in a single ZODB, how can a clean Application Update be accomplished? Documents (content) may be changing in an Interactive Production Environment, while Application Components are being updated in Dev / Test. How can Application Updates be merged with Current Documents? Can adequate partitioning be achieved by segregating within folders? If so, what is the best way to update a set of Application Component Folders? Can a batch FTP process safely overwrite existing folders, and all contents? If not, do we need multiple ZODBs, one each for Application Components, and Documents? Is this possible within a single Zope instance? Can ZClient objects be used, fetching documents from another Zope? Does ZEO present a better solution?" Thanks, Jerry S.

Lets see... One question is getting zope and IIS to behave correctly together. I had it setup where IIS did the authentication, Zope running in remote user mode (?), and everything authenticated correctly. The problem I ran into was viewing the management screens; the .gif's were not rendering correctly. In addition, IE 5.0 was displaying the tree in the left frame, but not the management screens in the right frame. Second question dealt with <dtml-tree branches_exp="some_sql_statement" leaves="dtml_method>. I patched the treetag.py file, but expand_all=1 does not expand the leaves. I'm not sure if this is intended or is a bug. dtml tag

Hi, I would like to print the code of a method through another method, problem is that when I do that, all the dtml-var tag are interpreted... so, I would like to stop such an interpretation... Is it possible to get the code of a method for printing it in anotherone, without interpreting the code??? (the aim is to make a method to change the code of my index_html method through a configuration interface... I know it can sound a little strange....;^) ) Thanks Pierre

Unanswered questions...

I have been working with Zope for the past month, and have developed a love/hate relationship with it. I definitely think there is a _lot_ of potential with this application; I am even trying to "sneak" it in the back door of the company I work for. warning... rant beginning Unfortunately, I have posted some questions to this mailing list, and have not received an answer; not even a "read the manual" (as if there is a good one... :]). Now, I can understand not getting a question answered if it has been covered many other times before; however, I would think such a question would warrant a response similar to "check the mail archives". I find it hard to sanction Zope to my management when I can't get any responses to questions I ask here! rant ending...
