ZODB replication on a per-object basis?

I have a project in mind where I'd like to have 2 or more Zope installations selectively replicate other Zope server's objects (a sub-set of objects). I've looked at the write-up for ZEO, and that doesn't really seem to fit the bill. Imagine a master Zope site running some application, perhaps ZDiscussions, Wiki or Confera (just an example). Suppose that dial-up users want to sync their copies with the master server on a periodic basis, but not sync the entire zope site. (say, a list of folders and subfolders, and meta types). Now suppose that these client-copies also have data to contribute, that needs to be sync'd back to the master. Disregard the issue of two clients changing the same object.. I'm thinking about general replication of a subset of objects in folders from one system to another... The Coda file system has a disconnected mode.. If I had a Code-FS implementation, this might work except that I'd be missing meta info. Has anyone thought about this problem? I also need to tackle the same issue for database replication.. Replicating changed rows between systems to keep them in sync. That's another story. Thoughts? Error using BackupExec on Zope installation on W2K

Hello all, My DBA tells me that when he tries to back up the server we're using with Zope, BackupExec keeps giving him this error: 'WARNING: "\Zope\WebSite\var\Data.fs.lock" is a corrupt file.' So we stop Zope (clearing the lock?), do the backup, and restart it. I don't have a lot of experience administering Zope yet (I'm mostly tackling development), so I'm not sure what to do to solve this issue. Does anyone have any suggestions? Tables???

Hello All! I need your kind help. I'm tring to creat a table like the tables in excel that holds name phone email etc.... that i can manage in zope rather than in excel if i need to edit or update it. In other words I want to move it over in zope, but I can't seem to figure it out.. Would you use tinytables??? and how would you use it because I'm having trouble. Problem: AttributeError / Job Board / Form / Submit ++

Kindest .. I am trying to get the article of "Job Board" up and running but are experiencing some minor problems. Inherit from folder below

hi, Simple question: How can i get access to a property of a folder under the current folder? If i have a folder called "top_folder" which has a folder in it called "sub_folder", and the "sub_folder" has a property name "sub_folder_title" which a value of "This is the title of sub_folder_title". How can i get access to "sub_folder_title" if I am in "top_folder"? I have tried <dtml-var "sub_folder/sub_folder_title"> but it gives me a name error on "sub_folder_title". I hope that was not too confusing. Thanks in advance! - Lex Berezhny

Creating a new XML document

I seem to be a bit slow today... I'm implementing a process document storage system in Zope, storing the documents as XML so that I can have a central repository and eventially add an export mechanism that will allow the documents to be printed via post script. To date I've always added a new document by creating a new XML document via standard Zope manager interface. Users can then edit the document through DTML methods and add / delete / change elements. What I'd like to do is to create a new XML document using a DTML method. But for some reason, I'm not seeing how that would be done. Can anyone help? Perhaps there's an example out there that I haven't been able to find... Catalog memory usage issues

So the Status tab talks about Catalog using less memory if the word count on the subtransactions is set lower. I tried setting it to 500, and my Zope grew to 204M, which is exactly the same size it grew to when words was set to 10000. (Don't ask me why it was set that high...). What is going on here? It's making my system swap itself to death, so it takes forever for the 'update catalog' to complete, and then I have to restart Zope afterwards to bring performance back to normal. This is Zope 2.1.4 on FreeBSD 3.4-stable. --RDM

The answer is very simple: get "Learning Python" by Mark Lutz & David Ascher, ISBN 1-56592-464-9 Don't waste money on any other Python book. (I have 4 books on Python, and flipped through another two.) When you feel strong enough, then you may want to explorer more specific topics in Python, you can then buy more books.
