Probably a stupid question but I'm banging my head against a wall this afternoon.... I'm setting up a directory product... Consists of two Zclasses Directory and People. Both inherit ZObject Manager ... People is inside Directory and there will be many instances of People in each instance of Directory... However, when create an instance of Directory there is no Pople in the Available Objects list to add.... I know it works because I've done it before, but I can't recall if there are any gotchas that I've forgotten? But only (well, to me at least) to some degree. And a bit of hacker' attitude (should we rather call it zen?) ,-) I use Apache+mod_ssl on linux. First, download the siteaccess product. Then add a dtml method to the root folder and then set it up as an access rule. I use the following setup <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('SiteRootPATH', '/')"> <dtml-if "1+(_.string.find(PATH_INFO, 'manage'))"> <dtml-let HOSTNAME="_.string.replace(HOSTNAME, 'http://','https://')"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('SiteRootBASE', HOSTNAME)"> </dtml-let> <dtml-else> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('SiteRootBASE', HOSTNAME)"> </dtml-if> <dtml-call "REQUEST.setURL(base=SiteRootBASE, path=SiteRootPATH)"> It's rude, and by far not the best solution, but it works. The variable HOSTNAME allows you to do virtualhosting and to set the base url on a per folder basis. e.g. you set the property on 'myfolder' to http://mysite.com. This way, you could add (from the ground up) ssl-ed sites as well, just modify the above method to check if HOSTNAME has https in it. As You see, I primarily added the above to be able to securely administer a site (and to do virtualhosting). However, there still is a problem: you have to call the /managed URL with the https:// perfix, otherwise your password goes to the server UNencrypted. The interface actually gets encrypted. So, if zope sees an url with /manage at the end, it should redirect you to the same url but with a https:// prefix. Any ideas, zope gurus? Have a nice day Ambrose

hello! :) The string returned from the variable is longer than the size but is there a way to make it wrap so I don't have to increase the size??? Thanks -Jonathan What a day! :)

What I am doing is using the LocalFS product. This will let you point to a directory on your server and access it as if it were a Zope object. Then in Zope you can say <img src="images/banner.jpg> and it will use the images in the directory instead of the DB. SIGSEV when trying to import ExtensionClass

Hello! I have a problem with ExtensionClass, it can't be imported when running from the webserver. From the command line it works excellent. I have put information at http://www.dtek.chalmers.se/~d98aron/pcgi.html if someome has time to look at it. ExtensionClass is needed to run Zope, which must be started through pcgi at our server for security reasons. Thanx! Fredrik Aronsson (PS mail me if you want more information)

I have looked through the HOWTOs and read some comments about creating 'pseudo' images or zope pointers to static image urls and using those rather than storing all images in the DB. User is logged in? (LoginManager)

How do you determine if the user is logged in? You can not check for "Anonymous User" because the user can briefly be "LoggingInUser". You can not check for the Anonymous role because LoginManager forces everybody to have the Anonymous role. I think if LoginManager gave LoggingInUser the Anonymous role and stopped forcing everybody else to have the Anonymous role, I could use the Anonymous role for the test. Is there another way to determine if the user is logged in? Thanks.

hi I installed worldpilot, it presents me with a login screen which doesn't let me in. mod_pcgi2 version 1.1.0

Hello! http://www.zope.org/Members/phd/mod_pcgi2 New version of mod_pcgi2 released. I did all my best to track and nail down all the problems related to Location. I spent many time with gdb and traced two different problems in Apache. I don't reckon them as "bugs" - these are probably features that I do not get right :) As these are not bugs - there are no fixes and small patches. I needed to create (a little bit too complex) machinery to overcome these features. More details in README and source code. User Class with more properties

Is there a product available that allows you to add more properties to the User class. I thought of creating a ZClass that has "User" as base class but I'm not sure if I will be able to add this new user to a user folder. A question triggered by this scenario: Does Zope only use user in user folders for authentication? Roché Compaan
