"Hiding" a Zope object from URL accesses

If I have a Z SQL method set up as /query on my Zope site, how is it possible for me to disallow direct accesses to it via a URL (like http://localhost/query) ? If I cannot, then what is the convention people use to store objects which are not supposed to be visible directly? Thanks.

Lost in name Space...

The purpose of this method is to print out a random greeting. Everytime i click "View" for this DTML Method, i get a random hello. Fine, that is exactly what I want. The problem is that I am trying to use this "method" from its parent folder (the root folder as a matter of fact). I have inserted the following bit into the top level "index_html" DTML Method of my Zope root near the begining, so that it produces a random hello on the front page everytime someone accesses it. I have tried : <dtml-var RandomGreeting.Greet> <dtml-var RandomGreeting.Greet()> <dtml-var "RandomGreeting.Greet()"> <dtml-var /RandomGreeting/Greet> all of these, to know avail. I am getting either a NameError or KeyError. I am pretty sure I'm missing a simple concept here. It is possible to call functions from child objects is it not? Please help with some enlightenment. Problem : ZCatalog (plain-text email this time)

[ Sorry for those who have ever seen this email in html format, it was a mistake... ] Hello, I've got a problem with a search form. I have a ZCatalog with lots of entries. I added the index "absolute_url" in order to search by the files url. Why ? 'cause I have files in organized folders like that : ......../language_name/country_name/city_name/element I'd like to do a search on "#language_name and #country_name and #city_name" in my catalog, so I use the absolute_url. But the problem is that the search only looks the end of the absolute_url string, that's to say "element" in my exemple. How could I search in all the string ? Sorry for my bad english. Fabien.

TCPWatch... and closing sockets..

I'm going to try to make a long story short... and the story isn't even over... but I'm getting close. One of our clients is a 'multimedia' company and we're working with a group there that consists mostly of artists and designers who use tools like photoshop and macromedia director. They came to us recently with a project for which they were *going* to use Macromedia Multiuser Server but the complexity of their application is significant.. long story short... I've sold them on the concept of using Zope as the 'media/personality server' for this application. They will use Director (which can post stuff to an URL and can also parse XML). So.. I'm building a framework that permits them to use their favorite tools, but I get to use *my* favorite tool too. ;-) The problem: Director is not a browser. There is no 'view source'. But (I think to myself) this is a great chance to use tcpwatch, which I've never used before. It's a little tricky since my favorite client machine is a Macintosh, and well.. lets just say that Tkinter for the mac is not perfect... not to mention there is no thread module.. but I do have a workaround that's useful (since I run Zope on a FreeBSD server, I just use tcpwatch on FreeBSD and either MI/X, or VirtualPC with Linux for my X server.. ). I noticed however that when I did a 'POST' the URL encoded arguments were lost. I found that the proxy_receiver handle_close method was never called.. so that anything in a 'last line' that didn't end in '\n' was lost. I added the following patch that shows this... but why is handle_close not called? I can only guess that the socket is not being properly closed somehow. I use lib/python/ZPublisher/Client.py to test calls to Zope and it works fine, but the asyncore/asynchat stuff never calls handle_close for proxy_receiver. Minor oddity in beta 3

One oddity I just noticed in the beta 3... if you have no folders created in the root, then the left-hand navigation pane doesn't show the Control_Panel, Quickstart, or acl_users folder. Once you add a folder, then all three of those objects, as well as the new folder, appear in the left-hand pane. If you then delete the folder, and refresh the browser, everything in the left-hand pane disappears again (leaving only the root folder at the top). Not a biggie, but a little odd. -- -- Michael W.
