Adding users with a PythonMethod

Greetings, I'm trying to add a users from within a PythonMethod. I have searched this list and found examples of how to add via DTML, but they all seem to require REQUEST. I have built a dictionary containing the appropriate keys, and passed that as REQUEST, and the following error occurs: Error Type: KeyError Error Value: SCRIPT_NAME From what I can see of the sources, if you pass a non-None REQUEST to _addUser (via manage_users) it will return manage_main. This seems odd to me, because I can't see how you could pass the user details otherwise. So, what I'm left to conclude is it's easier to add a new user from DTML than it is from a PythonMethod. I hope I'm missing something here... any ideas? Have a better one, Curtis Maloney

Change all occurrences of self.manage_access(self,REQUEST) to self.manage_access(REQUEST) in AccessControl/Role.py. BTW, this has been reported to the collector before this thread even started. Both will not work. ":required" is implemented as a converter (which is a bug, in my view). It means "convert to a string and check, it is not whitespace only". ":int" is a converter, too. And you can only have a single converter per form variable. However, ":int" implies "required", as an empty string is not a valid integer. This means you will get a ValueError, if the form field is submitted empty, unless you used he ":ingore_empty" suffix. To check that a file was supplied, you can check *in DTML* that "<file>.filename" is non_empty: <dtml-unless "your_file_field.filename">  </dtml-in> Dieter

I see 2 potential causes: 1. There is no valid "python2.0" in "/usr/local/lib" 2. Python 2.0 no longer looks for its infrastructure via PYTHONHOME *and* the default place. Check 1. If "python2.0" is there (and correct), it may help to install a symbolic link from "<zope>/lib/python2.0" to "/usr/local/lib/python2.0". Dieter

ZPoPyDA woes

Dear comrades in zopeness: For some time now I have been struggling trying to get Zope to talk to Postgres. I am now nearly successful and hope that the revolutionary spirit of fellow zopatistas will carry the day. Background: Debian 2.1r2 on a PII 600 or so (the machine is pretty loaded) Postgres 7.0.3 Python 1.5.2 PoPy 1.4.1 ZPoPyDA 0.7 The most recent vexation is simple: after expanding ZPoPyDA.0.7.tar.gz (dl'ed from www.zope.org/Members/tm) there is no configure file and no Makefile. Like many products, it just expands out into lib/python/Products/ZPoPyDA/*. However, the README file says to run "./configure; make; make install". In an acronym, WTF? Bonus question: I had a terrible time with installing PoPy itself until I modified the makefile to have a second -I argument going back to the source (.../postgres-7.0.3/src/include). One or the other (the source or the installed include, that is) would result in various missing *.h files. Did I install postgres incorrectly? There was no .../include/catalog directory at all in the installed directories, which PoPy wanted. I eagerly anticipate any clues, and thank everyone for their attention. --JB

Hi there, I am trying to sort results of an ZAQL query with the dtml-in sort tag, but it appears to be sorted alphanumerically, is there a way to tell it to sort numerical values? Thanks, Christian

How to access a dtml-var from a python method?

Hi everybody, I would like to know how can I access a variable that I have on a html form, for instance, in my python method and work with this variable in python? I tried to pass as a parameter, like def method(<dtml-var variable>): ... if <dtml-var variable> == ... and of course it did not work, I would be really glad if any of you could help me. ZPoPyDA UPDATE

I got the brilliant idea of running zope with -D. The PoPy module is old: Update your version of PoPy Checking the code in PoPy_db.py, it's looking for exactly and only version 1.4. 1.4.1, therefore, is 'incompatible'. Of course, grumble, before I did this, I updated to v. 2.0 of PoPy & must now downgrade. --JB

Maybe this can work... Actually, I was incorrect. It doesn't strip the slashes. But that's not the issue. The problem is that if you enter digits into a string property they don't get entered into a globbing vocabulary.
