Chris keeps saying that it would be hard to explain the semantics. But if zope is worth learning, shouldn't these semantics be explainable totally generically? Why should they have to be separately documented just for session variables? What is really special about session variables (other than that they can be written to)? As an aside, how did zope even get this far without session variables? I'm very confused... And finally, *even* if the session variables are kept in a private space, I'd at least like some way to make them public using some generic pre-processing. But I don't see how to do that, because if I stick a dtml-with, for instance, into generic header code (included, for example, by standard-html-header, then this with statement is required to be *closed* when I edit it). That is, I think the <dtml-with> has to be paired, in the header, with a </dtml-with>. What Zen am I missing here? How do you guys do this sort of thing? LoginManager with SQL and Skinscript: adding properties to propertysheet propertysheet

Hi all, I am following Dan Pierson's How-To SQL LoginManager with SQL and Skinscript. I am not able to add properties. I created LoginManager:LoginUser subclassed zclass def for a user with a propertysheet Basic. It had properties password and email. The LM methods I tested failed so I deleted the properties. Now I want to add them again. When I try I get: for password Invalid property id, password. It is in use. for email: Invalid property id, email. It is in use. I also deleted the entire propertysheet and tried to add the props but the same error occured. I can add new props but not ones that were deleted earlier. Is there a way around this problem? SQLs from Python strings

On first impressions this may look like a homework assignment question but I can assure you it isn't! I'm having difficulty trying to explain this (hence the strange subject line ;-) but I hope someone can offer me some advice... I have four attributes (A, B, C, D) and each is an integer say, between 0 and 9. I need a method to create a table with the following columns: Name Age [if A=3] then A1, A2, A3 [if B=1] then B1 i.e. if A=3 and B=1 and C & D =0 then 6 columns will be created. I already have the code (well, the logic) to do this but what is the best way to do it. ZSQL methods can't handle such logic, right? I was thinking maybe passing the parameters into a python method to build a "CREATE TABLE..." string... but can this be used to actually execute the query? I don't know if I have explained this well enough. Here's the logic (no particular language and A,B,C,D = P,T,A,B) int p = PRACTICALS; int t = TUTORIALS; int a = ASSIGNMENTS; int b = BONUS; string classAndCode = CLASSCODE; String createDB = "CREATE TABLE " + classAndCode + " ( " while (p != 0) { String createDB = create DB + "p" + p + "integer, " // e.g. p0, p1, p2, etc. p = p-1; } while (t != 0) { String createDB = create DB + "t" + t + "varchar, " t = t-1; } ... etc Okay, say I have a python method, which returns an String (an SQL CREATE TABLE statement). Serious BUG in Export. ==> pb of lost inheritance if export / reimport.

Hello, I would like to mention a very serious bug (for me), that prevent to use inheritance between two classes defined in two different package, if you have to export and reimport those packages. In a previous mail I mentionned a problem of Inheritance lost between packages. I spent a lot of time investigating the problem, and in particular looking in the export file (xml version). First here is the test: Phase 1: create the products and the classes. Create a product PA Create a class A in the product PA. Create a method "test" in class A. (this method display "before"). Create a product PB Create a class B in the product PB which inherits from A. Create an instance a of A. Create an instance b of B. Phase 2: test the inheritance. ==> everything works fine Executing the method "test" on those two instances return. a.test ==> "before" b.test ==> "before" The result is correct. Phase 3: export / reimport product PB, and modify methode "test". Export the product PB. (PB.zexp is generated) Delete the product PB and restart zope. Import the product PB (PB.zexp) and restart zope. Modify the method "test" in class A.. (this method display "after"). Phase 4: test the inheritance. ==> B does not work correctly. Executing the method "test" on those two instances return. a.test ==> "after" b.test ==> "before" ####### this is incorect. !!!!!! I spent a lot of time investing this problem, in particular looking in the xml export file. The problem is that when you export PB, the exported file also contain the definition of class A. When you re-import PB, B inherits from a class A that is different from the class A that is in the product PA. You have a kind of Zombie class A. (note: reimporting class A doesn't solve the problem). If someone has some idea how to fix this bug which almost forbid the use of inheritance between products in zope (unless you have a master server that never import anything) ?! zbabel -- sort order screwed up

hi everybody, i work with zbabel 0-0-3, ZMySQLDA 1-2-0, MySQLdb 0-1-2 and zope 2-2-4 i do sql queries with order by clause with no problem at all, but if i use zbabel translate tab (uses python-sql methods) it sends back an unordered list which screws up my translator view. i change the sql in my python files, but it doesn't use it at all. i stop and start zope, exit netscape, ... ... but still the used sql is obviously the same, whatever i do. is there a cash for sql parts that survives the stop of zope? where might be the error thanks olaf -- Sent through GMX FreeMail - http://www.gmx.net
