Hi Everyone, I was wondering what you think is the best editor for developing with Zope. Using the webinterface works okay if you use a few files, but becomes messy if you edit a lot at the same time. I myself have been using UltraEdit32 for a while now, using the ftp interface of Zope. It's not a bad editor, but you cannot create projects with links to ftp files in it. So what do you prefer? Douwe

Hi All: I have been under water all month and I am sorry that I have not been better at keeping this community list going. Anyway, the reason there has been so much frustration is because ZPUG.org has been split between two servers and I just wanted to remain hands-off until things resolved. They didn't. Well, I have not been able to get onto the server to change the front pager, but we have the delightful and elegant Mr. Jim Fulton, the father of Zope and the amazing (so amazing that even the Python kids love it) ZODB! So, from 7-9 on October 25th, we will bask in Jim's presentation as well as really spending more time and energy keeping it simple. There will be plenty of time for questions, a liberal half-time schmooze, and whatnot. We will be able to fit into the larger room because Jim will be bringing Zope Corp's little overhead and a fancy laptop. Bring your notebooks, a lot of fun will be had by all. Joya Subudhi of Foretec Seminars will be sharing with us all of the joy of the upcoming Python 10 conference <http://www.python10.com> -- and Python 10 will be plying us with drinks at Brickskeller afterwards. Also, we are getting our server house in order and the folks and imeme <http:// www.imeme.com> are generous enough to offer ZPug a hope gratis! Newsgroup vs. Discussion Board vs. Email List

We don't need to make an either/or decision here. We can make a both-and decision. There are discussion board products out there that allow members to decide if they'd like to participate via an email/list interface or a newsgroup interface or in the discussion forum format itself. Web Crossing is the one I know best that comes to mind but I've just finished a book on the subject of online community in these various incarnations so I know there are several others. I find email lists not very productive because of the lack of context. The massive size of the mailings that we sometimes encounter on this list result at least in part from people inadvertently (or advertently for all I know...:-) ) copying entire messages into their sometimes-brief replies. That problem doesn't happen on a properly run message board or in a newsgroup, either for that matter. Using either newsgroups or a discussion board -- and, again, I'm in favor of moving to a solution that gives everyone the participation interface they want rather than sticking with one solution -- would allow us to segment and categorize content as well as to thread discussions to retain context. -- Learn to absorb information, internalize new ideas, and generate creative solutions three times faster, triple guaranteed! Design question about HTML select

I have a simple select like so: <SELECT NAME="a"> <OPTION>1</OPTION> <OPTION>2</OPTION> <OPTION>3</OPTION> </SELECT> I'm using ZPT and based on an input variable - options/optval - want to have corresponding option selected. If options/optval is 2, then the result I want is <SELECT NAME="a"> <OPTION>1</OPTION> <OPTION SELECTED>2</OPTION> <OPTION>3</OPTION> </SELECT> There's definatly 2 general methods. 1) I can use javascript to set the selected option which I don't want to use cause it will get messy. This small example is part of a larger dynamic macro. 2) I can use ZPT TAL:condition sorta expressions to get the job done. My current solution is like this, but I don't like it at all: <SELECT NAME="a" TAL:define="ov options/optval"> <OPTION SELECTED TAL:condition="python:ov == 1">1</OPTION> <OPTION TAL:condition="python:ov != 1">1</OPTION> <OPTION SELECTED TAL:condition="python:ov == 2">2</OPTION> <OPTION TAL:condition="python:ov != 2">2</OPTION> <OPTION SELECTED TAL:condition="python:ov == 3">3</OPTION> <OPTION TAL:condition="python:ov != 3">3</OPTION> </SELECT> Is there a better more general solution? validating a field from records in a database

Can anyone else help with my problem? One of the users gave me some help but I'm still having a problem. I'm open for suggestions on another approach or help with the one I'm attempting. Product constructor

Hi! I'm a newcomer to the Zope community, and discovered this powerful application just two weeks ago. Just a brief look at the documentation and features convinced me that this was the right choice for building a dynamic webpage. Starting to comprehend the functionality of Zope, I've run into some obstacles I was hoping someone could help me with. #1 I've created a product for news-articles that have a property sheet with properties such as date, author, title and content. The constructor-form let's you fill in the entire property sheet, but once you've filled out the blanks, I want Zope to store the product in the folder "news/yy-mm/" (year-month that is) no matter where the product was added. How do i achieve this? <dtml-with "Nyhet.createInObjectManager(REQUEST['id'], REQUEST)"> <dtml-call "propertysheets.psNyhetsartikkel.manage_editProperties(REQUEST)"> <dtml-call reindex_obect> </dtml-with> #2 As good as every news article will have a number of images displayed in it, and I'm wondering how I best can associate an image with the article. missing page templates?

Please pardon my ignorance but are page templates part of the standard Zope distribution? I'm running Zope 2.4.1 (binary release, python 2.1, win32-x86), python 2.1.0, win32, but I don't see "page template" in the add drop box of the ZMI nor can I see it as a downloadable product at zope.org. This all cropped up when my installation of DCWorkflow failed due to missing Page Templates. As always, any help is much appreciated. Cheers, Darran.
