About having all the data in ZODB, I tend to agree with Jacob Singh. It is lot more *easier* in SQL (for people who know SQL a little bit) to extract data out in any way you want. However, I certainly don't agree that it is easier to program and maintain ASP/PHP code to talk to database for building a large scale applications - when compared to Zope. IMO, Zope with ZSQL methods is the best and most versatile choice for hooking up a database to web. So, what I tend to do often is to design a database in RDBMS and use Zope to talk to it - this is a hell lot more easier than mixed HTML + ASP/PHP code - it cut down the development time by around 80% and certainly cut down lot of maintenance time. One issue I can think of ZODB is that mass update of properties is little harder than SQL - I know there is find & replace support now, but I've not used it yet - as opposed to simple UPDATE table SET col='' WHERE blah blah. That said, here is the principle that I've been following so far: - If we need only a web application, go with Zope and its products - If we need a web application and that data probably needs to be used elsewhere, create a SQL schema that supports Zope's products. Then automatically synch the ZODB data to RDBMS (well, this will limit the object capabilities of Zope a little bit) - If it is really a mission critical application for which web is just one interface (and it is possible that people want OLTP capabilities later), start with a database design, use ZSQL, preferably make your own management interface and then create ZODB objects from the database. This is a lot like traditional ASP/PHP programming, but you would be surprised how easy it is in Zope. You might want to check the DBObjects product as well. S Babu http://vsbabu.org/

file-upload problem

Hi, I'm uploading a file from a form. However, I want the id to be something I filled in the form, namely movie_id. But if I do: <dtml-call "images.manage_addFile(id='<dtml-var movie_id>', file='<dtml-call movie_file>')"> and try to upload it, I get following error message: The id "" contains characters illegal in URLs. Installing MySQL & zope

I tried to install the zMySQLDA but get following error when starting the zope-server: 2001-11-28T11:44:11 ERROR(200) Zope Could not import Products.ZMySQLDA Traceback (innermost last) : ... KnowledgeKit

Hi all, i'm a newbie. I've installed knowledge kit in my zope and used it for sometimes. And then, i forgot if made something to this product, but now KnowledgeKit is not seen in the Add list product. It just show up in a certain folder. I mean for example, when i create a folder, and i want to add this product, KnowledgeKit do not show up in the Add list. What's happening to my KnowledgeKit? dtml-in fails

Hello! I am very new to Zope, I do not know something about Python and DTML and I am german. So, at first, I have to apologize my bad english. And now my problem: I would like to show the content of a directory. Simple. That fine Zope-book says: | <ul> | <dtml-in expr="objectValues('../File')"> | <li><a href="&dtml-absolute_url;"><dtml-var title_or_id></a></li> | </dtml-in> | </ul> should do this. I created a folder, put two JPGs from my home directory into it and pasted that code into the index_html-DTML-document. It does not work. When I view this index.html-File in a Browser, the result is: | <ul> | </ul> Please note the "space" before "</ul>". My system is GNU/Linux; Debian testing. hello, Every dtml-image object has width and height as a default property. I want to check if a dtml image object has width (attribute or property) > 1 something like <dtml-if expr="objectname.len('width')>1"> do something <dtml-else> do something else </dtml-if> can anybody please tell me the exact syntax ?? can i use len ?? thanks for the help.
