Deletion Problem

Hey I inserted a picture using : --> <dtml-call "zmovie_images.manage_addImage(id= REQUEST['zmovie_title'], file= REQUEST['zmovie_path'])"> And am now trying to delete it with: --> <dtml-call "zmovie_images.manage_delObjects(ids=[REQUEST['zmovie_title']])"> but it won't work... Bullet list manager

I'm working on a site that will include lots of bulleted lists. My boss loves the idea of making content change with each visit, so he wants to have a bulleted list of -- say -- 10 benefits of membership, but only display three of them for any given page view. He's got a list of 100 interesting facts. He wants to display only one. He's got a database of upcoming events. He wants to display three upcoming ones. Seems to me that these are all the same problem: pick one or more items out of a list, wrap begin and end item HTML around each item, wrap begin list and end list HTML around the entire list, and plunk it onto the page. Mix in a reasonably idiot-proof UI for managing the list items, and I think that would make a pretty cool product for Zope. This begs a few questions: Does this or something like it already exist, or is it just a really stupid idea? Are there features people would like to have? Is anyone willing to help me with the design and creation of the internals of this thing? Are there any similar, folderish products that I should use as a model for my design? Thanks! ANN: Zope Book as Debian package

Hello, I did a new CVS checkout from Zope Book and builded a new Debian package from it. It is available under http://packages.debian.org/unstable/doc/zope-book.html For this package I added a Makefile to build html or xml version. This Makefile also creates links from Preface.html to the chapters mentioned there which makes it a little bit more handy. Please have a look at it. Any comments are welcome. Kind regards Andreas.

Fetching the title of object whose id is passed in query string

I'm working on my first Zope project, an on-line photo galley, now located at http://localhost:8080/gallery/ . The image objects are stored in a subfolder called "imgs". The page at the above URL has a nav bar with links that have the id of the image object to display in a query string, like so: http://localhost:8080/gallery/?imgID=doorway. What I want to do is display below the image the title of the image object whose id is passed in the query string, sort of like a caption. For some reason, though, I can't figure out how to ask for the image object's title directly. What I'm doing now (and which works, but is ugly), is this: <dtml-if imgID> <dtml-in expr="imgs.objectValues()"> <dtml-if "imgID==_['id']"> <IMG SRC="imgs/<dtml-var imgID>" width=<dtml-var width> height=<dtml-var height>> <P align="center"><dtml-var title></P> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> </dtml-if> How do I just do something like <dtml-var expr="imgs.title_or_id(imgID)"> (or something like that) and make it work? This is exactly what I needed! There are two things I would like to clarify for other Newbies: 1)the method that is provided below is taken from the source. Thus, in order to call the method you need to omit the 'self' argument: manage_setLocalRoles(userid, roles, REQUEST=none) 2) The 'roles' argument is a list, so passing in a string is read as a list of characters. Thus, the method call might look like this: manage_setLocalRoles('myid', ('Manager',), REQUEST=none) Thanks so much Chris for your help! Best, Keith R. I think it is the 'Manage Users' or 'Change Permissions' permission. This should only be an issue if you are trying to add the role programatically as opposed to manually. You can also set up a 'proxy role' on the object that is going to be calling manage_setLocalRoles--that way the user doesn't necessarily have to have 'Manager' role in order to invoke your call to 'manage_setLocalRoles'. I have created a product called 'ZLocalRolesManager' that I am thinking about cleaning up and releasing on zope.org. Its purpose is to provide an easy way for you to allow users to assign local roles on objects. The way it works is, you create an instance of it, and set a property called allowed_roles. allowed_roles has type 'lines' and contains a list of roles that you want it to allow the user to dole out. then you can set up a view in a zclass, or just set up a DTML method that calls the LocalRolesManager, and your users will have the ability to assign local roles. They will only be able to assign the specified roles, so you can prevent them from handing out 'Manager' roles, etc., if you choose. it's a very simple product but it has been very useful to me... if anyone is interested in it shoot me an e-mail, and that will encourage me to clean it up and post it on zope.org. :) chris On Tue, 2001-11-27 at 17:03, Keith Alperin wrote: > Greetings! ObjectManager FTPlist - acquisition issues

I don't know if this the right place to ask these questions... I somewhat think that this belongs more in the zope-dev list but I'm hesitant to post there since I'm not officially a developer of Zope. There is a problem in the manage_FTPlist method of ObjectManager. I found a patch (written by Deiter Maurer and available at: http://www.dieter.handshake.de/pyprojects/zope/#bct_sec_5 ) that might fix this issue, but I'm uncertain as to the status of this patch. I'm not expecting anyone to solve this for me right away, but I would like to know what the right forum is to discuss this, who is the maintainer of this code, how to monitor the status of it, etc. I would also like to know what the status of Deiter's patch is; is it scheduled for inclusion in a future release of zope? Is it a potential security hole? If there is some place that I can go to find this information, could someone please let me know where? Here is a more detailed explanation of the problem: There is a bit of code in ObjectManager.py where it checks to see if an object is acquired: ob=self while 1: if App.Common.is_acquired(ob): raise ValueError('FTP List not supported on acquired objects') if not hasattr(ob,'aq_parent'): break ob=ob.aq_parent Now I'm not completely familiar with the inner workings of zope, so I'm not sure I understand how this is supposed to work. What I do know is that a ZClass that is nested inside another ZClass in the Products folder will cause problems with this bit of code. If you FTP into your ZServer and do: cd Control_Panel/Products/SomeProduct/SomeZClass/propertysheets/methods cd NestedZClass/propertysheets cd methods then the "ValueError" above will be raised. The while loop runs 3 times, with 'ob' being set to the following three objects: <ZClassMethodsSheet instance at 8942708> <bar_ZPropertySheetsClass instance at 88e3a58> <ZClass instance at 886c320> The ZClass instance then passes the 'is_acquired' test, the ValueError is raised, and the FTP server says 'No such directory'. So is the acquisition check just overkill? If it is removed, will that solve the problem? Or is the problem actually related to the fact that the <ZClass instance> passes the 'is_acquired' test when it should not? My apologies for getting so deep into this issue on the list here, but I just don't know where else to address my questions to. This problem is crippling FTP access to my development tree, and that is a critical factor in whether or not my company chooses to use Zope or not, so I would really like to get to the root of this problem. thanks for any info you can provide! chris price

I am trying to create an external method in Zope that links to a method in a Python script called "db." The Python script "db" imports another Python script I created called "GDAC". Both Python scripts are located in the Zope site's Extensions directory. When I try to save the changes on the external method I get an import error saying that it cannot find module "GDAC." Should GDAC be located in a different directory? What is the search path for imports within Zope? NOTE: This script works fine in PythonWin. Thanks, Garth
