I know...I did not mean to imply it was Zope's problem...I really think Zope is very fast using Access/ODBC. In fact, I am trying to convert one of 'products' from Access/ODBC to MySQL and there is a significant speed decrease and increased load on the MySQL server. Not sure why. I copied the folder containing everything, added a MySQL adapter and change the ZSQL methods to use the new DA. Then renamed the folders to put the new one into production and everything came to a crawl. All the queries had caches one them and it seemed they were not being used. Today, I deleted the queries and recreated them to make sure they were not 'holding' onto something...no difference. Even just me accessing it, it seems much slower than the Access/ODBC site in production being pounded on by users. If anyone has any ideas, I would be glad to hear them... we have been using Zope/Access for almost a year now. Works really well and have had no problems. The only thing I don't like is that Zope locks the MDB file so you can't copy it or open it with anything else. We converted one system to MySQL and use a remote tool to gain access to the remote DB on the server. Works well. More? Just ask... user management design

Hello, I've got a question concerning user-management. I've build a forum where you have to register before using. In this forum privileged users should be able to add private areas and to invite their friends to talk with them. Therefore I need a role called member for taking part in the general, private forum and the roles vip-member and friend of vip. This are 3 roles. My first concept has one big problem: How do I prevent priviliged users to spy out private areas of other priviliged users? Thanks.

Understanding Zope Error Logging File

Hi, We have developed a product (a mini ECRM) on Zope/Python/Mysql and the product is currently used by a few customers. Off late on our production server, we are getting zope error messages on the linux console. We believe that this is affecting the performance. I have turned on detailed error logging, when zope is started using the -M switch. When I read the resultant error log file, I find a lot of information, some of which is not quite clear. Can anyone please tell me, what the data in the error log file means? A sample of the text from the error log file is given below. Hello, I'm looking for advice related to the following question: I set up a store full in zope. I'll have 3000 articles wich are all the same (DVD). Each one has got a lots of acteurs. my question is; Do I have to store acteurs objects in on folder allacteurs or those objects have to be store in each DVD folder. In other word, the strucuture should be like this: -Root- l--DVDS- l l--DVD1 l l--DVD2 l l--allacteurs- l--acteur1 l--acteur2 or: -Root- l--DVDS- l l--DVD1- l l--acteur1 l l--acteur2 l l--DVD2- l--acteur1 Important things is that acteur objects hold 4 properties like sex, star or not star .... Then when a user look a a DVD, acteurs (wich are in the casting of this DVD) are listed and should be sort on star properties for example. I don't know when the most efficient way is all acteurs in a folder or instances of acteur object like subobject of a film. At this point my DVD instances held an thisdvdacteurs property (lines) with Ids of acteur object in lesacteurs. then i make a restricted traverse to access the name of an acteur folders. I got problem ti sort results by this way. the second important point is that I'll have to import a csv file wich contain all the base. For importing I think it wil be easier to have acteur object store in each DVD folder. Thanks for your advice§. Lets say one wants to design a web page top = html_function(x) side = html_function(y) main= html_function(z) <html> <frame set .....> <frame src=top> <frame src=side> <frame src=main> </frameset> </html> Now I the src tag expects a registered url type, but is there a type that allows parsing of text. I know I could pass the parameter through <frame src=top?x> But this is a far less elegant solution when dealing with lots of parameters Or maybe I should get some sleep :) Chris

problem/missunderstanding?? with refresh

I created a product that adds new rules to structured text. To this aim I base a class on Structured Text and add to the rules of the base class like so: class DWIClass( StructuredText.DocumentWithImages.__class__ ): text_types = StructuredText.DocumentWithImages.text_types text_types.insert(1,'doc_named_linkEx' ) text_types.insert(1,'doc_inner_linkEx' ) text_types.insert(1,'doc_redPicture' ) My reasoning is that as text_types is a class variable it exists only once. However when I refresh the product after a change the above lines are added each time anew. Now my questions: Is my code wrong from a python view of things, or should refresh clear the whole thing? Does Python create an instance of the base class and an instance of my class?? Robert

Hi I'm trying to import a zexp file into the product list. The original zexp File (including one object) was exported from a Win-Zope 2.4.2. The platform I'm doing the import on is a Solaris 2.4.0.
