manage_changeProperties example needed

The Zope Help/API docs/PropertySheet page says that I can use manage_changeProperties: manage_changeProperties(REQUEST=None, **kw): I always see people using it like this: manage_changeProperties(REQUEST) The help file says I can use name=value pairs, but I can't seem to implement this. I don't understand the format it wants. I've tried the following: logfile.propertysheets.NetShowLogFileProperties.manage_changeProperties(None , logfile_line_ids = current_logfile_line_ids + ' ' + logfile_line_id) logfile.propertysheets.NetShowLogFileProperties.manage_changeProperties(REQU EST, logfile_line_ids = current_logfile_line_ids + ' ' + logfile_line_id) logfile.propertysheets.NetShowLogFileProperties.manage_changeProperties(REQU EST=None, logfile_line_ids = current_logfile_line_ids + ' ' + logfile_line_id) But each one returns 'illegal argument type for built-in operation' for this line in my Python Script. I don't know if you can tell, but I am only interested in changing the property 'logfile_line_ids'(tokens type). As it is probably evident, I don't understand the meaning and function of parameters like 'REQUEST=None' and '**kw' (that looks like a pointer to a char array :) Thanks for any pointers, Troy

conceptual problem with acquisition

Hello, although I already created some sites with Zope I now encountered a problem that I am not able to solve with acquisition, i.e. to make a parent subfolder work as a fallback resource. Directories look like this: /pics/logo.gif /dir/subdir1/pics/logo.gif /dir/subdir1/index_html (subdir1 is a zclass and index_html a method of it) /dir/subdir2/pics/logo.gif /dir/subdir2/index_html (subdir2 is a zclass and index_html a method of it) /dir/subdir3/pics/ (empty!) /dir/subdir3/index_html (subdir3 is a zclass and index_html a method of it) The index_html contains a reference to the pic: <img src="pics/logo.gif"> Now when the subdirX/pics/ doesn't not contain a logo.gif, acquisition also does not work because it stops on finding the pics folder in the subdirX. This is exactly the scenario, Rik Hoekstra describes in http://www.zope.org/Members/Hoekstra/ChangingZopeContexts. Unfortunately non of the workarounds he mentions are appropriate because a) I need an image folder for each subdir (see below) b) I can't reference images from the parent c) the pic directories need to have the same name this all because the rationale behind this is to enable index_html to look differently _dependent_ on the existence of logo.gif. the site designers are meant to be able to change index_html's appearance just by uploading a new logo.gif. If this is not present, the one of the parent should be used. I think it would work if I put the images directly in subdirX and in the root dir but this is pretty ugly and should only serve as a last ressort IMHO. is there any way / product / trick to make this concept work with subdirs?? thanks for your help --Oliver

.. cannot be owned by the emergeny user (bug?)

another thing that occurred recently .. trying to add a python script. the funny thing is I am _not_ logged in as the emergency user but as a user I created called "manager", with only the Manager role. strange behaviour with zclass method and emacs

Hi, while editing Zope content with Emacs I discovered the following strange behaviour: There's a ZClass (base classes ZObject, ZDTMLDocument and container, which itself has the base classes ZObject, CatalogAwareBase, ZObjectManager) containing three DTML documents at this moment. Now I can edit two of them with no problem, while opening index_html always tells me (New File). However this file already exists and is editable via the management interface. The former version of index_html, now called index_html_simple is editable normally, also the other DTML document. The index_html of the ZClass "container" is also editable from Emacs with no problems. Is this a bug? I am running Zope 2.3.0 and Linux on the Server, GNU Emacs 20.7.1 (i386-suse-linux) as a client. --Oliver

Zope on FreeBsd

Hi, I am a zope newbie and have just managed to get zope server running on port 8080 on FreeBsd. I read the zope book and it helped alot only that I still do not know how to: 1- Do virtual hosting- (name based virtual hosting) 2- I have not been able to get pcgi running properly with apache which is my default webserver especially as Bsd does not seem to pass authentication via the <location> directive. I have tried using the <directory> directive with the directory containing my Zope.cgi as the script aliased directory and what happens is that I get authenticated by apache but after that, I get an HTTP 404 error response. Can someone help me out here or point me to any Howto's that are Bsd oriented? Thanx in advance. And, I think that Zope is a great product, especially as it is so powerful and yet avalable as open source. Patrick.

ZSQL: ValueError, Duplicate column name

hi, i have the following problem when using ZSQL with special SQL-queries: When creating a simple ZSQL-method for quering two different tables with both a column of the same name like SELECT person.last_changed, work.last_changed FROM person, work a ValueError "Duplicate column name" occurs. I located the "problem" in "lib/python/Shared/DC/ZRDB/Results.py": 123: if schema.has_key(name): 124: raise ValueError, 'Duplicate column name, %s' % name I made a workaround with an external python method directly quering the database. But my question is: Is there also a workaround with dtml/ZSQL? I do not think that it is a good idea to force unique table column names for a complex database.
