I use it regularly together with "pdb" (the Python debugger) to analyse complex problems. It allows you to emulate HTTP request from the command line and to debug the execution with "pdb". Initialization problems often do not need real debugging. Many problems in this phase lead to a broken product. In this case, the corresponding product in "Control_Panel->Product Management" has a traceback object that shows where the problem occured. For unknown reasons, some problems in this phase show not up in a broken product (the product is left unchanged but is not working). Many of these can be analysed (and solved) by enabling Zope's logging facility: define STUPID_LOG_FILE as a filename (argument to "start"). Such problems are then logged to the log file and can be analysed. Dieter

Download resume

We have gotten a question from someone who wants to download a rather large file from our site. He seems to want to download only small portions of the file, and use resume to get the rest of it. The trouble is that he seems not get it to work. He says that getright and flashget complains about that our site does not support resume. We use ZServer 1.1b1. What can I do to make him happy? Javascripts again

Hi Andrew, Thanks all for your directions. I looked at Andrew's method, which requires setting a property Javascript=yes. Unfortunately, being a neophyte, I don't see where to add properties to DTML Methods (though I do see it for DTML documents). Something simple? The client script howto advocates creating separate methods for each function. So, I would have to create a separate file for each function (there seem to be 6) ... then where would the script itself go? I'd like to use the second method (which passes scripts by reference). I'd be more than happy to write this up as a "Javascript rollovers for newbies" (with CSS and breadcrumbs thrown in, since we got those to work) if someone can troubleshoot this logic: I currently don't have an image listed. Perhaps another newbie mistake, but I'm assuming (with the consequences) that I can specify "Images/home" for "Images/home.gif" .... To do a one button rollover: 1. LoginManager & Session Tracking Status

Hi all. I understand that the current LoginManager will work with Zope 2.3.0 with some small tweaks with the source code. If they are indeed small tweaks, can I expect a new version of the LoginManager, which works out of the box with Zope 2.3.0, to be released soon? Also, both the LoginManager and Core Session Tracking seem to be indispensable features for application servers. Is there any indication when they will be rolled into Zope?

FrontPage Extensions incompatible with Zope?

I run a simple Zope-based web site for my local community, and I'm having trouble supporting authors who want to use FrontPage. Is there any good way to use FrontPage with Zope? This seems an obvious FAQ, but I found little help after a long search. There are at least three categories of trouble using FrontPage with Zope, that I know of: 1) FrontPage generates files and folders whose names start with "_", thereby breaking a cardinal Zope naming rule and causing those files and folders to be inaccessible (if done via LocalFS) or outright impossible (in Zope proper/ZODB). 2) FrontPage uses custom HTTP-based RPCs to do file upload and administration. I know next to nothing about this, but I'm pretty sure that Zope does not support this extended HTTP protocol directly. Seems like it could though. 3) FrontPage uses its own library of server-based features, such as for counters. I don't even own a copy of FrontPage, much less have any practical experience with it, so I'm flying blind here. But this _has_ to be a common problem, right? How have you solved the problem? (Answers along the line, "Don't use/allow FrontPage", are not useful to me.) For those who care about this problem, here's a bit more detail: The website in question is hosted on an NT4 server, so I've got IIS available. I run Apache on port 80, IIS on 82, and Zserver on 8080. Most stuff for the site is ProxyPass'ed from Apache to Zope. But I'm now intercepting the FrontPage-based stuff in Apache and ProxyPass'ing it to IIS. I gave the FrontPage-using developer the IIS URL to upload her work, which is then stored as regular files/folders in NT. Minor Tab bug?

This isn't a showstopper, and if someone else has pointed it out, please disregard. However, I found a minor bug in Zope 2.3.0. Here it is. When you are using the management screent to edit the properties of a folder, once you press the "Save Changes" button, the changes are indeed changed, and the content of the "Properties" tab is indeed shown, but the tab itself that is indicated is the "Contents" tab, rather than the "Properties" tag. Its not a big deal, and is easily worked around. For that reason, I don't know if anyone bothered to mention it. If there is a bug tracking list, please direct me to it and I'll add it there (but it wasn't obvious from the Zope site that there was a specific bug-tracking list). Cheers, Ron
