ANNOUNCE: Zope 2.3.1 beta 2 released

Hello all, Zope 2.3.1 beta 2 has been released - you can download it from Zope.org: http://www.zope.org/Products/Zope/2.3.1b2/ Zope 2.3.1b2 contains a number of bug fixes, including the fixes for the issues addressed by the 02/23 and 03/08 hotfixes. It also contains a number of changes to address issues with ZCatalog. New data structures have been introduced to reduce the number of conflict errors caused by object indexing under some types of usage, and to reduce the amount of object database bloat that occurs when indexed objects change frequently. The changes to ZCatalog have been designed so that newly created ZCatalog objects will take advantage of the new data structures. Existing ZCatalog objects will continue to work with the old data structures, but will not gain any of the benefits of the new code. It is possible to upgrade an existing ZCatalog object to use the new data structures by following the How-To at: http://www.zope.org/Members/mcdonc/HowTos/UpgradeToNewCatalog **Users of the Zope source releases should note** that this release contains new C code, as well as a few changes to existing C code. If you are using a source release (or the source diff update), be sure to run 'w_pcgi.py' or 'wo_pcgi.py' as appropriate before starting Zope to ensure that your binaries are rebuilt. Protected Z words

Is there a list of variable names that should be avoided in Zope dev? For example, haveing a field in my mysql database called id or title isn't very smart. I know for a fact that "from" is a strange word. Or is it my application perhaps? <dtml-var from> didn't work, so I changed it to <dtml-var "REQUEST['from']"> and then it worked. Peter

remote superuser mode

Hi! What I actually wants is to get the management interface using another machine as the machine ZOPE is installed on. When I write my superuser password on a remote machine zope doesnt accept it (only on zope local machine) Where can I change the remote access in superuser mode attributes? Thank you in advance

Look at http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/psdk/winbase/accclsrv_9cfm.htm The win32security is a wrapper for the MS Net API. you can search from the main page for other API functions or download the SDK. I have had the jcNTUserFolder working against a BDC, but haven't tried local machine. Try using the machine name "." instead of the actual machine name. AccessRule rewriting for queries

Part of my criteria for a site is to eliminate ugly URLs where possible. So, instead of http://foo/authors/search?name=plath I'd like http://foo/authors/plath I've handled this (mishandled this?) with a SiteAccess scipt in the authors folder: <dtml-comment> Handle author searches like /authors/plath without ugly URLs like /author/search?name=plath Look at every request in this folder: if it's not for an existing file, then mangle it so that it becomes a request for the detail page, and set 'author' to the rest of the path </dtml-comment> <dtml-let addon="REQUEST.path[-1]"> <dtml-if "addon not in objectIds() and addon[0:6] != 'manage'"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.path.pop()"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.path.append('detail')"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('author',addon)"> </dtml-if> </dtml-let> (if there is a request for something that isn't actually in this folder, and isn't a manage request, mungle it) Two questions: 1) is this terribly evil? is my site going to catch on fire one day because of this? 2) my breadcrumbs no longer work. I'm using one of the standard breadcrumb tips that runs off PARENTS, and it only shows 'Home > Authors', not 'Home > Authors > Plath' (which makes sense--Plath isn't on the PARENTS list.) However, if I add the requested author name to PARENTS (via append), everything goes haywire -- I can no longer see the ordinary stuff, like standard_html_header I could have a different breadcrumb routine in this folder, but that seems icky and hard to maintain. I'd rather figure out some way of getting the regular breadcrumb method to work properly here. Any ideas? ZMySQLDA always converts columns of MySQL type int(11) (the normal 'integer' field type) to Python Long values. The reason this is done is that the MySQL integer data type can hold values larger than the normal Python integer. Python 1.5.2 and earlier had a bug that caused a Python long to print out with the L suffix; this bug was fixed in 2.0 (and maybe 1.6, although I haven't tried it). The conversion table in ZMySQLDA can be found in lib/python/Products/ZMySQLDA/db.py, in the DB class: conv={ FIELD_TYPE.TIMESTAMP: _mysql_timestamp_converter, FIELD_TYPE.TINY: int, FIELD_TYPE.SHORT: int, FIELD_TYPE.LONG: long, FIELD_TYPE.FLOAT: float, FIELD_TYPE.DOUBLE: float, FIELD_TYPE.LONGLONG: long, FIELD_TYPE.INT24: int, FIELD_TYPE.YEAR: int, FIELD_TYPE.DATETIME: DateTime, FIELD_TYPE.DATE: DateTime, FIELD_TYPE.TIME: DateTime } (from ZMySQLDA-2.0.4) If these L's are causing you trouble, you can edit this code to show int in place of long for the FIELD_TYPE.LONG and FIELD_TYPE.LONGLONG. formatting problem...

Hello you all. I´m having problem in using FMT atribute of the DTML-VAR tag in dtml methods. The situation is that when I receive some integer data from a MYSQL database, I get it with a L sufix. That makes it necessary to format the data with <dtml-var key fmt="%d">. Now, the problem is that, sometimes, I need to keep on passing the data over to a few dtml methods, and when ever I need to reformat the data, I get an erro message: " Ilegal argument type for built-in operation.". I need to reformat because the data in the other dtml-methods in the sequece may be being received from the MYSQL database. How coud I reformat the data using <dtml-var key FMT="????">, even if it has already been formated by <dtml-var key fmt="%d">? Thanks, Daniel C. Azevedo

Product that publishes python classes

Hi! Does anyone know of a Zope product that When added into zope tree, takes a python class as a parameter and publishes all it's methods into zope: a) as a properties of itself. b) acts as a folder and contains the methods in itself. Does anyone have any good ideas how to make such a product?
