Hi there, I have a little question for you gurus out there... Why does this first piece of code work when I explicitly state the folder name and the second not work when I use a variable in its place? (lookup type is set to strain) #1-------------------------------- <dtml-with name="lookups"> <dtml-with name="strain"> <dtml-in expr="objectValues()" sort="id"> <dtml-var name="id"> </dtml-in> </dtml-with> </dtml-with> #2-------------------------------- <dtml-with name="lookups"> <dtml-with name=lookuptype> <dtml-in expr="objectValues()" sort="id"> <dtml-var name="id"> </dtml-in> </dtml-with> </dtml-with> By my reckoning this should do the same thing, iterate over the contents of the strain folder and list the ids of its objects. The edit or DOM tree view of a ten-line XML document should not be noticably slower than your average Zope management page on a fast machine. I test on a 666 Mhz box with lots of other stuff going on and don't see this. If you're looking at the *collapsed* DOM tree view, ParsedXML isn't doing much at all, just getting the document element node, so slowness that you see there probably isn't ParsedXML. Access these pages and some DTML documents or whatever *on the same server with the same load* with wget or ab, and time the results. What is the difference? That being said, printing the XML is slow, which is why the default view isn't the edit window. I recommend cacheing when you're using the XML from ParsedXML. And also, yes, ParsedXML proxies the DOM in an clunky way, which is why it is often a good idea to use the proxied DOM when speed is an issue. It's a compromise. ParsedXML's proxy layer has the features, the proxied DOM has the speed, but is nothing but DOM. -- Karl Anderson karl(a)digicool.com

MSWordDocument

Hi, out there ! Has anyone got FTP and WebDAV together with MSWordDocument under Zope 2.3.x (exactly: 2.3.2) to run ? It works like a charm as long as I use only the built-in HTTP-PUT upload, but I can't upload anything via FTP or WebDAV. WebDAV and FTP are OK for all objects on the site except those of Type MSWordDocument. I always get either error 426 (cannot create file) with ftp and 405 (method not allowed) with WebDAV. Access rights shold be OK (checked several times, even tried with all rights for anyone). Funny thing is, using FTP, the *.doc file gets converted (via wvWare, I'm under Linux) correctly and the temporary *.html-file can be ound in /tmp together with the graphics. But it doesn't get published then. Using WebDAV, there's not even a conversion underway. No errors, not even in STUPID_LOG_FILE. Any help appreciated. Import the product PB (PB.zexp) and restart zope. Modify the method "test" in class A.. (this method display "after"). Phase 4: test the inheritance. ==> B does not work correctly. Executing the method "test" on those two instances return. a.test ==> "after" b.test ==> "before" ####### this is incorect. !!!!!! I spent a lot of time investing this problem, in particular looking in the xml export file. The problem is that when you export PB, the exported file also contain the definition of class A. When you re-import PB, B inherits from a class A that is different from the class A that is in the product PA. You have a kind of Zombie class A. (note: reimporting class A doesn't solve the problem). If someone has some idea how to fix this bug which almost forbid the use of inheritance between products in zope (unless you have a master server that never import anything) ?! Converting old site to Zope

This may very well be a FAQ, but I can't seem to locate the answer. How do I import my old website run by Apache into Zope? Is there an easy way or do I have to sit here and add each individual file? zzLocale

Hello All. I'm trying to get zzLocale up and running on my zope 2.3.2 a couple of questions. I've untarred where I believe it should be, and put the french locales under Squishdot for example and restarted, and I can see the zzLocale under products, but nothing really happens other than that....shouldn't something be in french if my browser defaults to french?....what exactly should happen?....and maybe it's not obvious 'cause I haven't set it up correctly.... any help? also, I noticed that the start script has an -L switch available for localization...based on the RC_LANG or $LANG variable in the OS....is this necessary for zzlocale? is it independant of zzlocale is it better or worse? different? un-related? what? thanks for the enlightenment. Hi, its quiet simple: your External methods might look like so: import string files={'file1':'path/to/file','file2','path/to/file2'} def ReadExternalFile(fileid): # try to open file. If fileid is invalid, an exception occurs file=open(files[fileid]) # you can do some processing as splitting up into lines: return file.readlines() def WriteExternalFile(fileid,lines): # try to open file. If fileid is invalid, an exception occurs file=open(files[fileid],'w') file.writelines(lines) You can then use these methods like this in your dtml-method: <dtml-if myfile> <dtml-call "WriteExternalFile(fileid='file1',lines=myfile)"> </dtml-if form was submitted> <form method="post"> <dtml-with "ReadExternalFile(fileid='file1')"> <textarea name="myfile"> <dtml-var read htmlquote> </textarea> </dtml-with> <input type="submit" name="foo" value="change"> Ok, this is very sketchy but you should get the point. However, the above method does not protect the file from modifying through concourrent requests. If you want to protect yourself against this, I would suggest writing a class in the external method: import string files={'file1':'path/to/file','file2','path/to/file2'} class ProtectFileChange: __allow_access_to_unprotected_subobjects_=1 def __init__(self,fileid): # do something to protect the file, e.g. rename it # or use locking on it (see posix) self.file=open(files[fileid],'rw') def read(self): self.file.seek(0) return(self.file.read()) def write(self,data): self.file.seek(0) self.file.write(data) def __del__(self): # do something to unlock the file self.file.close() # cleenup. def PFile(fileid): return ProtectFileChange(fileid) You can use this class as External method this way: <dtml-with "PFile(fileid='file1')"> <dtml-if myfile> <dtml-call "write(myfile)"> </dtml-if> <form method=post> <textarea name="myfile"> <dtml-var read html_quote> </textarea> <input type="submit" value="change"> </form> </dtml-with> The latter keeps the object with the file until the request ends.
