How to pass parameter to TALES function?

Suppose I have a list of clients and a list of contacts. Each contact is associated with a single client. Both the clients list and the possible contacts lists can be long, though the contacts list will be longer. I want to create and edit projects for a user-selected client, so I have an initial selection form which displays all the possible clients. The user selects one client from the list. That information is then validated in the passed to the selection action. The overall structure of this part of my Zope tree looks like so: /project /add /select_form (Formulator /index_html (ZPT) /do_select (Python Script) /add_template (ZPT) /do_action (Python Script) /edit ... /form (Formulator) The edit functionality isn't yet done. It's there to show that there are two functions which will share information store in /project/form. Therein lies the rub. The process goes like this: 1. .../add/index_html displays the contents of .../add/select_form. 2. User selects a client and pokes the submit button. 3. .../add/do_select validates the choice and returns .../add/add_template, passing it the information it's calculated. 4. add_template displays the contents of .../form. 5. User enters other project information and pokes the submit button. 6. .../add/do_action validates request and creates the project. I figured out that in step 3 I could stuff the client's id back into the REQUEST with container.REQUEST.set("client_id", client_id) then in step 4 .../form can display a properly abbreviated list of contacts using something like: python:form.utils.get_contact_pairs(client=form.REQUEST['client_id']) This is fine as far as it goes, though it does seem like a kludge to me. (Is there a better way to pass that information?) If the user does everything correctly in step 5, we're golden, however, if he flubs I have a problem. The code to handle an error in step 6 looks like so: try: d = context.form.validate_all(request) except FormValidationError, errlist: return context.add.add_template(errlist=errlist.errors) This is in effect: try: validate inputs except: goto step 4 Unfortunately, when we get back to step 4 the new REQUEST object doesn't have a client_id field. At the point where I return in the except clause is is there a way to stuff the client_id into the new REQUEST object (which I assume has yet to be created)? Hi All! How can I use the sequence-var-get_size variable? Hi Chris, The traceback is for my productions site. Channel is a skin I have added. The exportation of this production site is what I want to accomplish in the end. However, as stated in one of the previous letters I have done the following test to ensure that there isn't something strange with one of my current Zope installations. The test I have done is to install two "fresh" Zopes (same Zope, same CMF, no other add-ons) on the same machine. Instance home the one Zope, leave the other one as is. Create a new CMF site from scratch in Zope1. Export it from Zope1, import it into Zope2. (I also did this the other way around). In both cases, the import shows broken Portal Folder icons and the site does not render. Only in my production site's case do I get the traceback. The fresh install test also does not work - it doesn't show a traceback, but just doesn't render - instead I get the standard Zope intro page. As if the portal does not have a default document. The above test shows me that either I am doing something wrong with the instance home setup, or there is a bug when exporting/importing CMF sites between instance home and non-instance home Zopes. It's a pain, but it would be great is someone else could test this (install two Zopes with CMF, make one instance home, create CMF site, export, import, see if it works) and see if they get the same problem. calling python from template

I want to call a python script from a page template but I don't know how to 'name' the script, ie I don't know how acquisition will find it. my script lives if /folderA/folderB by page templated list is /folderA/folderB/folderC I use content of listObjects to call the listObjects script in folderB -- but zope isn't finding it. what simple thing am I missing?

Sorry if this has been covered somewhere, but I can't find it and I'm stuck. What I need is an image 'server' of sorts. A single object that will render the contents of an image that is requested. I tried creating a document called imageServer.jpg that contained: <dtml-with images> <dtml-var "imageName.read()"> #also tried _[imageName].read() </dtml-with> I know that I've used that read() before somewhere and I'm thinking it was with a mime tag or something, but that should give you the gist of what I'm trying to do. An object, that I can pass an the name of an image that exists in a folder other than the current one, that will render the image in a format that the browser will accept. TIA Rick

StructuredText not doing punctuation properly

Hi, STX doesn't do punctuation properly. When given text like this: this is a "link":something. that STX is supposed to give: this is a <a href="something">link<a>. that But, I get: this is a <a href="something.">link</a> that This happens with all punctuation (period, comma, etc.) Mine is a stock Python 2.1 + Zope 2.6.0 installation (on Debian 3.0 tracking "testing"). I have checked the sources under lib/python/StructuredText and they seem to be using the correct regexes. I also ran the regression tests and they all passed. In particular, the "HTML regression test" passed without any problems. However, when I render a document on the actual Zope instance, I get the above problem. Any ideas on how to fix them? - Is it something to do with the regex libraries (either python libraries or system regex libraries)? - Is it something to do with what classes (or types) of the StructuredText module are being used in a "Document"? - Has anyone else experienced this? There are a couple of other problems also: - STX doesn't strip the indentation from code samples. I.e., after a paragraph which ends with "::", I have a code sample. The code sample has to be indented deeper than the preceding paragraph for it to be recognized. But, when rendering, the indentation is preserved, causing all the lines of the code to be deeply indented. I thought it was supposed to strip the leading whitespace (atleast upto the minimum indentation). - Tables are formed like so: |---| |a|b| ... Whereas, the documentation says, we must use "||" (which doesn't work). Thanks! Thanks for the response Dieter, I do not have any Directory View folders, its just a plain CMF site, containing some structured text docs and Folders (CMF Portal Folders). The Folders' icons are broken, even though you can still get into them. When trying to view the portal, I get the error (see the traceback that I posted on p.t.'s request). I can even replicate this consitently with two brand new installations AND brand new CMF sites on any machine. Create a new CMF site, add a Portal Folder, export the site, import it in the other site. The only difference with a new CMF site is that I don't get the error when viewing the imported folder, I only get the standard Zope intro screen instead of the portal rendering. The only difference between the two sites is that one is a instance home'd site and the other is not. I'm quite sure that anyone else should be able to replicate this (on Win32 at least). I don't know if I must rather put this issue in the collector (I need to be sure I'm not doing anything stupid first!) I am not sure, but: CMF DirectoryView saves the path to the folder in a compact way, i.e. if possible not as absolute file path but relative with respect to either "SOFTWARE_HOME" or "INSTANCE_HOME". This, usually is a good thing, as it allows your to move the complete Zope hierarchy without rendering your DirectoryViews disfunctional. But, when you have exported a portal with INSTANCE_HOME relative paths and import in one without an INSTANCE_HOME, then the affected DirectoryViews may no longer work. In this case, the affected DirectoryViews would appear as empty. You need to fix their path to make them working again. Dieter

XUF and destination

Having some trouble. I created the sample files for Loginform, etc. in the folder just above the acl_users. When I get my Loginform the destination shows under the box. however, it shows a relative address...all of which is correct for the FULL URL except the http:// part. I have tried variations in the base url field in Membership Sources tab. All to no avail. Suggestions?? Thanks --Allen
