How Do HowTo?

Hi; I've created my first HowTo on the Zope site but the chrome with navigation doesn't appear (can see it here: http://www.zope.org/Members/BenO/HowTo/Formulator_With_ZPT/ ). What have I done wrong? What variable do I need to call? TIA, beno

Brian Further problems I have downloaded, tar & installed zope twice now, following all instructions that I have found. On trying to start Zope I get a message "A user was not specified to setuid to fix this to start as root see/doc/setuid.txt" I have looked at setuid.txt and cannot work out the syntax to enter any command after trying multiple many many times. I was su ed to root when I ran the install in /usr/local/dc as in the documentation. From waaaayyyy back in HISTORY.txt: An option has been added to the bbb.py script in the utilities directory to convert ZODB 2 database files to ZODB 3 format. The bbb.py script now accepts an '-f' option that takes an argument specifying an output file name. Limit transaction undo

Hello! We are using Zope for several customers where we built an interface to maintain their own websites. Working very well, but the ZODB will grow because of all saved transactions. We don't need the saved transactions since we do all the production on another server. Today we manually pack the ZODB regularly, but it would be nice to either stop or limit this feature. I have searched but haven't found any hint on how to do this. Is it possible? If not, is there a way to automatically pack the ZODB regularly? Another odd thing is that I see transactions saved when a dtml-method has been viewed. The method doesn't contain anything that do any changes to the ZODB. But I need to do some more testing and learn how Zope handles transactions before be absolutely sure. Where can read more about how/what Zope saves transactions? The handbook didn't go in to any details. Joakim Nicander

Utility functions

What is the idiomatic way of expressing utility functions? I.e., python scripts that are meant to be callable by a variety of templates, dtml methods, other python scripts, etc. but which tend to be small, useful, and usually oriented at manipulating data (not generating html). Creating lots of separate Python (Script) objects seems like overkill, yet defined functions inside such a script don't seem to be easily accessible outside the script object. E.g. Script1 --------- def foo(a): return a[0] request= container.REQUEST <blah blah> return container.resultPage() Script2 -------- <blah> container.Script1.foo(x) The call in Script2 doesn't work...I'll go read the source for a script object and see if there's an attribute that gives me the access I'm looking for, but I thought I'd ask the list, too. aathan <Andrew Athan>

underscore '_' in python script

Hi, In this location, http://www.zope.org/Members/anthony/tree-coding-tricks, there is a sample python script. If I try to load it in my Zope installation (ver 2.6), it complains because a class and a method starts with "_". But in python, the class initialization method __init__ starts "_". So how do you define a class that requires an initialization method in a Zope? Tks. AL

The point is, *none* of my visitors use Opera, and in actual fact, almost none use anything but Explorer. My site looks like crap in Netscape 4, but I decided not to care. I first noticed the problem as visitors began pounding my script (with Explorer) . Face it, only geeks like us use Mozilla, Opera, etc. Is there a fix for the browser that my customers use? What I am trying to do is hide the actual URLs to protect my data, and at the same time record outbound clicks. I'm just looking for a solution. Thanks! Ken
