Uses of METAL?

Hi all, I've a few things with Zope so far, mostly using ZPT and python scripts, and I haven't found any serious uses for METAL. In almost every case that I've been tempted to implement METAL, I've found I could accomplish the same thing with ZPT and/or python scripts. My question is: How are other people using METAL in serious applications? I would love to hear how it is being used by those more familiar with Zope than myself. Thanks very much, Alec Munro

LoginManager and page templates

Hi I am trying to use page templates as forms for LoginManager, but I can't get it to work. >From LoginManager.py (snippet below) I have traced the problem to line (A) if hasattr(self,'forbiddenPage'): if response.unauthorized.__name__=='unauthorized': def lm_unauth(lm=self,request=request,user=user,roles=roles,old=response.unautho rized): request['AUTHENTICATED_USER'] = user lm.forbiddenPage(lm, request, needroles=roles) if hasattr(lm,'loginForm'): lm.loginForm(lm, request, needroles=roles) (A) old() response.unauthorized = lm_unauth *Nothing* happens at that line when loginForm is a page template. Any ideas? I have tried a workaround using the normal DTML to call a macro and fill a slot (I really do need the macro for my login form), and the call macro part works decently, but not the fill slot part. I'd rather have page templates all round. Proxe error

Dear List Platform: FreeBSD 4.6, Zope 2.5.1, CMF 1.3, Apache Apache is in front of the Zope server. Error message: The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server. The proxy server could not handle the request POST /admin/submit_handler. Reason: Document contains no data Problem is that the error occurs "some" times. It is *not* browser dependt. Any ideas? \Oliver

download problems

Dear collegues, as an ADASS XII-participant I just tried twice to download Zope-2.6.0-linux2-x86.tgz for use on -evidently- a Linux PC. Download (from Netscape-Communicator 4.76) seemed to work fine until the end, but then a Netscape message with the name of the downloaded file appeared, where I only could click "OK", and when doing so all disappeared and no Zope...tgz-file was there. Zope intranets: hardware requirements

Hi all, In order to participate in Zope proliferation, I am looking for facts and numbers about the hardware requirements of a Zope/CMF(/Postgres) platform (because this is the first question after you've managed to convince the client of how Zope is great). So, experienced zopers, which hardware do you use or recommend to your clients to host intranet/extranet sites in a decent way ? I am particularly interested in sites hosting few users (<200) and many docs... Btw, where is the Hardware page on www.zope.org ? I remember of it, but can't find it nowhere today. The things I get myself into. I hope this solution will be of help to others. Let me first describe the problem. My Zope data.fs was growing at a alarming rate. Friday night, the 2GB file size was exceeded (the 2.5.1 server hosts a popular political site, and has been up non-stop for about a month). The z2.log and STUPID_LOG_FILE revealed nothing odd. A tranalyzer run also showed zope behaving apparently normally. What else could it be? Some malicious anonymous user triggering an insecure process? That should show up in the logs. More likely, it would be a programatic change that I had made myself, causing a runaway write process. But I had not made any changes in over two weeks. Turns out that I had created a HostTracker counter object at about that time: http://www.zope.org/Members/Ioan/HostTracker ...which was merrily populating a table with the statistics of a busy site. Kaboom! I had forgotten to remove this, since getting AWStats to parse the Z2.log for multiple stand-alone Zope virtual hosted sites. So be careful with a HostTracker counter, especially if your site is busy. Don't forget to purge it regularly. Thanks to everyone who helped solve this! Update to: Zope crashed when running RDFSummaryUpdate script

I tried once again to stop and restart zope and it started up fine. Apache would still not start, giving the same error message: Syntax error on line 260 of /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf: FastCgiIpcDir /tmp: can't create dynamic directory "/tmp/dynamic": access for server (uid -1, gid -1) failed: read not allowed /usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl start: httpd could not be started I then commented out the lines in httpd.conf referring to FastCGI, restarted Apache, with Zope running and everything seems to work fine. I don't understand. Michael I just experienced a strange problem. I'm running Zope 2.44, Python 2.13 and Apache 1.3.22. I was attempting to run my RDFSummaryUpdate script: <dtml-with RDF> <dtml-in "objectValues('RDF Summary')"> <dtml-with sequence-item> <dtml-call "update()"> </dtml-with> </dtml-in> </dtml-with> and it apparently hosed Zope. It appeared to be locked up as it was not responding to anything any longer. I tried stopping and re-starting Zope and it made no difference. I tried stopping and restarting Apache and I got this message: Syntax error on line 260 of /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf: FastCgiIpcDir /tmp: can't create dynamic directory "/tmp/dynamic": access for server (uid -1, gid -1) failed: read not allowed /usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl start: httpd could not be started The following first line is line 260 on httpd.conf: FastCgiIpcDir /tmp FastCgiExternalServer /usr/local/apache/htdocs/zope \ -socket zope.soc \ -pass-header Authorization This is apparently the only error, as when i commented this out Apache started fine. Any ideas on how to recover Zope, and could the update script have actually caused this, or was this just some weird timing, coincience thing?
