Hei we are going deliver a design proposal for a knowledge management system and we are planning to design it with zope. The system wil be a combined e-learning and e-testing system. A user can log on and go through some learninig and then he or she can go through some test to verify the learning. Now I wonder if I can have 10.000 or even more users in one instance of zope? As I have understood it, each user in zope is an object. And with 10.000 such objects it is obvious that I should keep each object as small as possible. My initial idea is thus to store most of the information on each user somewhere else than on the object, for instance in an sql database. The system should then work something like this: User A logs on the e-lerning site. The site gathers information about A from the database. The site then displays the relevant learning packages to A. A then goes through the learning he or she wants. Next, A logs on the knowledge test site. This site then gets information about A from the database. The site then presents the relevant tests to A. A goes through some test. A's test results are then stored on A in the database. After this some manager can acces the database to verify if A have passed the test. All pages in the learning site (text, pictures etc) will be stored in zope's object database. Best wishes and kind regards Børge Kjeldstad

Greetings, I have worked through the prototype in "The Zope Bible" and have run into trouble while creating my first "real" application. I am working on a web based product to aid volunteer fire departments manage their administrative work. I have based my class "Departments" on the "Entry" Classi n the AddressBook prototype and can add and delete departments as expected (getting them to list to the screen). My problem is that when I "click" a department, instead of getting the expected departmentDetails screen, I get an error saying the Departmetns has an empty or missing Doc string. In the prototype, we set a variable in the constructor of the AddressBook Class, but since all fire departments (in the US) have a uniquie Fire Department Id (fdid), I am using it for the index of the department. Any help would be appreciated. > Also...I've been reading up on the CMF, and wonder if it would be applicable to an application where multiple users would be managing their departments. This would entail lots of forms and a database interface. Most, if not all of the CMF examples I have seen so far are sites to post articles; would I be well advised to look into CMF for my application? Hi, I have a small problem. In the code below I can display the information but I would like to create a link on of the one variables. A link is established but each link hold the last variable value in it. Is there a simple way to do this?? Is there a lightweight Zope product that anyone knows of which: - Tracks changes of objects in Zope - Can send email to notify individuals when changes occur to objects that are being tracked I think using versioning or CMF workflow for what we need would be like using chainsaw to slice butter. ;-) Ideas, anyone? Protecting Zope solution / application -> deploying solutions to customers

Is there a way to protect your intellectual property, if you deliver Zope solutions to customers who have Zope instance running or you will also deploy Zope there. I'm talking about solutions that cosist mostly of some Python based products, Python scripts and page templates -> ie. typical web based site that has some logic, functionality and content, which is accessible through the TTW interface. And even though the client would not have admin account to the Zope instance, they could write a new superuser with zpasswd.py and then get access to everything. My question now is, is there a way to protect your work from being copied, altered or even read in source format? -huima

Is there a Zope base file manager product?

Hi, I'd like to know if there is a web-based file manager built on top of Zope or CMF. Ideally, I'd like to integrate a file manager in a CMF or Plone site in order to browse and modify the filesystem through the web. Zope on OS/2

Hi, I tried it and I got the errors bellow. It looks like D:\zope is hard-coded but I could not find out where. Also, xmlrpclib seems to be missing. Any help appreciated. Can't connect to Zope after initial install...

I just installed Zope onto the following config: -Redhat 7.1.2 -gcc 2.96 -python 2.1.3 My box is currently running Apache, and hosts 11 web sites (virtual hosts). The box has two ethernet cards and two static IPs. It appears as though everything has installed correctly (no errors). I've created a "zope" user and chmod'ed all the files in the zope directory. When I run the "start" script, it says that the Zserver has been started and is listening on port 8080. But then when I try to connect using a standard web browser, I get a "connection refused" error. This happens even if I turn off Apache. According to "netstat", something is listening on port 8080. One of my sites uses frames. User management uses the CookieCrumbler. When a user logs out, a logged_out dtml-method is invoked. The logged_out method kills off session and browser information and then transfers to the initial splash screen which links to the login page which includes the login page in the frameset. When the user logs out, the splash screen is rendered in one of the frames of the frameset rather than replacing the frameset. What's the magic needed?
