Hello, if there is a Zope forum please point me to it and I will post this question there instead of bothering you with it. My question is - I downloaded the linux full version of Zope. It downloads with a .tar extension but when I called it from Telnet I received the following error message: tar -xf Zope-2.5.0-linux2-x86.tar This does not look like a tar file Skipping to next header 331 garbage bytes ignored at end of archive Error exit delayed from previous errors Is this a download problem as I did notice that downloading from Zope.org is very time-consuming whereas I have a cable connection and anywhere else it takes a matter of seconds. I've redownloaded it three times and even tried other packages but the same basic errors comes up each time. Can you shed some light on this or point me to your forum so that I may enlist the help of other users? Thank you, Jason Edwards

does anyone out there know of a way to keep up with a user's location in the website (like the breadcrumbs system, but without having to arrange the pages so that it can simply look to the parent directory)? thanks, john

Trouble forwarding Zope's WebDAV source port

Hi all When I open a local Zope instance's WebDAV source port using Cadaver, it works fine:: jean@blommie python $ cadaver dav:!> open blommie:13800 Looking up hostname... Connecting to server... connected. Connecting to server... connected. dav:/> ls Listing collection `/': (reconnecting...done) succeeded. Coll: Accounting 0 Apr 9 10:49 Coll: Catalog 0 Apr 10 07:49 [... etc ...] However, when I try to forward a remote instance's WebDAV source port via ssh, I get the following behaviour:: jean@blommie lib $ ssh -l jean -L 8888:remote.co.za:8800 remote.co.za jean(a)remote.co.za's password: Last login: Mon Apr 15 16:30:44 2002 from local.co.za [jean@diepdink jean]$ jean@blommie python $ cadaver dav:!> open localhost:8888 Looking up hostname... Authentication Problem

Hi there, I am having a little trouble with a synced portal between dev and QA. On development, I can log in beautifully using the login_form. It goes to my logged_in page beautifully. On the new QA site, it gets as far as the logged_in section, but doesn't seem to recognise that it has been logged in. As soon as it moves through to the admin homepage, it redirects back to the login. Does anyone know what causes this? I've been searching through the archives, but can't find anything that matches both instances. Zope for Solaris 5.8/Intel

Dear Sirs. Right now we are using Zope on Win32 but we would like to move our applications on a SunOS 5.8 for Intel. I am using Zope-2.5.0 with Zserver. Starts fine runs fine. But it just quits!! The longest running time was 22 hrs. Running on RHlinux. Where should I look to resolve the problem. (Tired of being chained to my laptop!) Thanks J.Temple

[helpme] shortening exploded path

Let me first describe the problem. As everybody knows, if my Zope site looks so: [root] +-----[dirA]---[doc1] | +-----[dirB]---[doc2] one can use URL like /dirA/dirA/dirB/dirB/dirB/doc2 to access the same document as /dirB/doc2. It is usually not the problem, but on my site I sometimes use such links and for some reasons it would be hard to abandon it. And ... if one starts Teleport or wget, he or she usually downloads huge megabytes of replicas of the same file (things like dirA/doc1, dirA/dirA/doc1, dirA/dirA/dirA/doc1, ... dirA/dirB/dirA/doc1, ...) So, I would like to write some kind of SiteAccess rule, which would check whether the client uses such a path - and if so, redirected to the correct one to prevent the explosion. I imagine its pseudologic so: obj = the-destination-object if obj.url() == the-path-used-by-the-client process-the-request else redirect the client to obj.url() Could anyone help me writing exact code which would do such a thing? Is it a good idea? Wouldn't it conflict with VirtualHostMonster (I use zope behind apache)? PS I know that one can write <a href="<dtml-var something url>"> instead of <a href="something">. ZSyncer and accented characters in title

When source document has accented characters in its title, it *is* synced successfully but it cannot it synced from then on. ZSyncer gives error message: "Syntax error at line 31: illegal character in content" I'm using accented character from ISO-8859-2 set (Czech characters). I'm using ZSyncer 0.3 and Zope 2.4.3 under Linux. -- Milos Prudek

Users and Roles

Hi! I have a little problem with user managment: /test/ modify_db (zsql method) insert_field (page template) acl_users/ fred (a user with the role 'db_user') I want to allow access to 'insert_field' only to users bearing the 'db_user' role, so I created such role in the root folder. Then I checked 'view' property in the 'db_user' column (within 'security' tab from 'insert_field'), and also unchecked the same property in the 'Acquire Permission ...' column. According to the manual, when a client attempts to view /test/insert_field, zope should allow access to user 'fred' (because he has the 'db_user' role), right? In my case zope keeps asking for login/password. What could be wrong? Thanks in advance. Juan Pablo

ParsedXML questions

I'm using the ParsedXML product to hold and edit XML. Anyone else out there doing so? There's minimal traffic on the wiki and the specialized list. Anyhow, I have some problems -- First, what does a HTML node look like? It's clearly a tree structure but it's not clear from the docs how the XML is organized in the DOM implemenation. For example, suppose I have <A a=".." b="...." c="..."> <B> Some text </B> </A> what's the mapping in the DOM? How do I grab the value associated with A. How do I move (in DTML, ScriptPython, or External Method) to node <B>...</B>? How do I navigate around the DOM tree? Suppose I want to use the tree widget (dtml-tree) and control what gets displayed using some combination of the tag names and attributes, how does one garner the proper data? I've read the documentation and the few examples, but it's still opaque to me. Clearly I'm missing some insight. -d
