Zope does not responding

Hi all, I was find load problem with my Zope 2.5.1 (at W2k SP3, it is terminal server). When it have many connections (*), it sometimes stops without any reason. Nothings in log, nothing written to console, Zope does not give pages and seems running (does not respond to any connection). (*) concurrent downloading of about 40 connections to render bunch of DTML pages, few minutes load for cca 2000 pages - I could reproduce this behavior with that web mirroring, but Zope sometimes (in 1-3 days) dies without my mirroring too. I was wait few minutes and zope still does not give pages, nor Control panel to make shutdown. I was kill Zope and start again and is OK. I have running Zope before for few months without any problems for one virtual web. Now I have one more virtual web. But not much load, logfile for all after week have cca 2MB =>average load 2 pages or images/sec (yes, I know about "average" dis-value). I do not use much of caching, only few, sites need to be "live". I run virtual webs via VHM and in front of is linux "pound" non-caching proxy. Pound load proxy server for cca 20% (486-100) in case of my huge mirroring. It is M$ behavior (TCP/IP stack overload?) or something totally different? I was try to use -M "logfile" option for z2.py to get detailed log, but it does not make that log. I have virtual logger patch installed - is that possible cause for missing detailed log?. Question about inheriting Z Classes

Hello! I have created my own document type (Z Class) in Zope (let's call it "My document") and I'd like to implement other document's features into it (concretely, it is workflow feature from Metaflow document, but it can be anything else). I tried to do it the way I know - to create new Z Class and inherit the existing objects as Base classes into this Z Class. But I don't see this "Metaflow document" in the list between these classes (although Metaflow is properly installed and used in the Zope), so there is not possibility to inherit it as base class. Is there some possibility how to use behavior of this class in my classes or how to inherit the class other way? Thank to all for the answer! Lubos.

ZODB Transactions

Hi, all. I have a trouble with Zope when I want to store a lot of the files into the ZODB in the loop. My ExternalMethod does something like: ---------8<-------------- for foo in session[files].keys(): fileData, fileName = session[files][foo] self.somewhere.manage_addFoo('foo', fileData) self.SQLMethod_to_mark_the_uploaded_file(fileName) ---------8<-------------- And browser waits, waits, waits, waits (not user-friendly, BTW!) and then tells me "ZODB.POSException.ConflictError" and my files was NOT uploaded AT ALL. Then I *had* only one idea to make semaphore via session. I.e.: Create a DTML Method, where is a text "Please wait" and <meta EQUIV-.../> with refresh to check the flag in the session. And my External Method does (algorhythm): 1. set a flag into the session, like: session['foo'] = '1' 2. Put the files in loop by "manage_addFoo(...)" 3. Remove the flag after the loop, like: del session['foo'] ...and then my DTML Method will see no flag and redirect to the normal page. But it does not work at all :-) Seems that ZOPE requires to roll over ZODB transaction, because even I set the flags, they does not change untill loop ends (I've checked it by the parallel process). Maybe I should somehow do the explicit commit() or so? :/ The howto here http://www.zope.org/Members/don/long_procces does not work. I use html2pdf for several projects. I think I had a similar problem when using html2pdf on a Windows 2000 server. The solution was that the call to popen2 in windows requires a mode parameter to indicate that popen2 returns a binary stream. It looks like this in my external method: stin,stout = os.popen2('htmldoc --footer " : " --webpage -t pdf --quiet --jpeg -','b') Otherwise it is the same as the how-to. If you're on Linux or Unix, this probably isn't the answer. Bob Corriher P-Wave Inc.

pulling from another website

Zope should not be run as root, for a variety of good : reasons. Presumably your users own their own files, and in a modern : system, are proably in individual groups. Another solution - what about samba server at local machine and smbfs mounted to the same machine? localfs_user1 --> smbfs_mountedfolder_user1 --> /home/user1 localfs_user2 --> smbfs_mountedfolder_user2 --> /home/user2 etc... Mounting like (single line): mount -t smbfs -o uid=xxx,gid=xxx,username=user1,password=ffffff //localhost/mountpointuser1 /zope_localfs/user1 You only need to hide this file from reading at all, allow executing only. Rights like --x--x--x root root I was used years ago this similar solution for multiple thin dosemu clients. JL.
