There is no way it can beat cp on network traffic when the destination is a network mount. Please keep your replies on the list so others can help and the discussion is archived. Knowing that the call works if called just once on a page verifies that the bug is with ZODBCDA not moving the cursor as it ought (or not caching the results...) If you must host on W2k, look at the eGenix solution. One or multiple ZCatalogs?

Hi! We are working in a heavy content site, with about 87,000 content objects with full-text indexing (TextIndexNg). Usually read-only, rarely writing or updating contents on the ZODB. Due to usability reasons, we'll never give "search in the whole site" search results, but "We found x results in the A section, we found y results in the B section...", although the users are able to search in the whole site. So, we are deciding about giving search results with: - One ZCatalog at the top. Launch it N times in order to give results from each path. or - N ZCatalogs, each one in one section. For managing, it's clear that the second option is more useful. (I'm trying to index the whole site at once... what a pain!!) What about the performance with high load? what is more expensive? calling 8 times the same big ZCatalog, or calling 8 different (but smaller) ZCatalogs in the same request? urlencode in ZPT - newbie question

Hi, I have a ZPT which iterates through folders and files to produce a directory listing. However, the links to these files need to be urlencoded, in case the file names contain spaces (or other "odd" characters). I have tried the code given below, but urlencode isn't recognised ("NameError: global name 'urlencode' is not defined" : <--- snip ---> <a href="id" tal:attributes="href python:urlencode(item.getId())">  Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks, Dominic

A dead peer means that the ICP replies are getting lost. Lost, not just delayed. Is squid really saying "dead peer" in cache.log? Do you have network packet loss? Or, maybe squid isnt actually declaring the peers as dead... you would get a similar effect if you neglected to put the "round-robin" directive on your cache_peer lines, which controls how it resonds to delayed ICP responses (if this is the case then you may want to tweak icp_query_timeout for performance, but thats a different question) I am still suprised that this applies to you at all, because you ZEO server is on it own machine. right? Is there anything of interest in cache.log? What about if you turn on full debugging in squid.conf? I have to check if this works within an Terminal Server Environment. It will be a lot of effort to get this installed on the notebooks of a lot of peoble plus Citrix Terminal Server Environment..... Some time ago Dieter posted a comment where he indicated that he saw a substantial performance difference using a locally compiled python vs. the python shipped with the binary distribution. Why is this the case? What sort of performance difference might I expect?
