Hello, I have recently installed Zope 2.7.0 b2, and installed the mysql-python 0.9.2 along with ZMySQLDA 2.09b2. I had to manually copy the registry entries for my Python.org Python 2.3 installation to the 2.2 Python that is part of the Zope 2.7.0 b2 binary install. (This particular installation is on Windows 2000, not my main platform which is now MacOS X, where I have no problems...) Anyway, whenever I attempt to make a db connection in Zope, I get the following attribute error: "server_capabilties" It looks like that lives in the _mysql.pyd file, which is installed correctly. I can fire up the python interpreter and do an "import _mysql" and it gives me no errors. I can do an "import MySQLdb", create a db.connect, and manually execute some SQL. Any ideas here? The obvious one, get the 0.9.3b1 version of mysql-python is currently out, as I don't have any Windows-based compilers to do the install. I'm stuck with binary-only releases. The kind person who has been uploading the binaries for Windows of mysql-python hasn't for the new 0.9.3b1 release. Any suggestions? -- Joseph F. Dries III

os.system() - problem when using with lynx browser in linux

Hi I've created an external method that runs the lynx browser on linux and which dumps the output to a temporary file for display on a web page in zope. But the output from the dump is limited to 20k in size (I began with a script that dumped to a file on the hard drive rather than a temporary file) which provided this figure. The problem is that most pages are larger than the dump size that's allowed when I use the method in zope - so the output from the script is usually truncated. external method------ def execute(url,fileName): import string, os, tempfile try: fileName =tempfile.mktemp() lynx=('/usr/bin/lynx -accept_all_cookies -dump - hiddenlinks=ignore ') lynx=lynx + url lynx=lynx + ' > ' lynx=lynx + fileName os.system(lynx) out=open(fileName,'r').read() os.remove(fileName) return out except: error='Sorry - service not available - please try again' return error I've also tried os.popen() and have the same problem. I've tried running a similar script in straight python and do not find the same problem. Is this an issue with python in zope - I use a binary of zope 2.5 rather than my own python? Or is this the way that zope is set up and there's a configuration I'm missing? Any suggestions? Thanks Jim

Thanks all for the very valuable feedback. Yes, George has been great at Zettai.net, I am definitely confused on the various moving parts of this as a mail and Zope newbie. I will read more documentation, and attempt to clarify exactly what roles are played by the various components: qmail, ezmlm, and Mailboxer. Frankly I have no idea where one starts and the other ends, so any "in a nutshell" explanations will be greatly appreciated. I have gotten various commands to work within ezmlm to change various parts of the mailings (footer, header, etc.), and have been able to manipulate various settings like privacy, moderator controls, etc. The clarity will help me down the road, as I am having trouble figuring out some basic things, like: (1) how to figure out who has subscribed and unsubscribed to the list (where to access the logs)? OT: XML Diff

Hello All, Slightly off topic - anyone know of any Python/Linux/win utilities or products that are the equivalent of 'diff' on Linux, only operating on XML instead of text? It would be nice if the results of this 'xml-diff' happened to be valid XML. TIA. Regards, Samir

Simple question?

I've been looking through Zope material (e.g. the Zope Bible) and most of it talks about building products from scratch. One thing I constantly find myself doing is say "What I really want is a new class of 'Folder' objects but that display, for example, some additional information when rendered". In other words, variations on the existing content types. It appears that I can use both ZClasses and Python products to do this. My problem is that I'm working with Plone/CMF content types and they seem pretty complicated to derive new content types from. If, for example, I just wanted to create a new class of folders but override the "view" (page template?), what is the best way to do that. I'd like to be able to do much of it from the web, but it isn't clear to me how I'd override something like the "view" (document_view?) method for python-based products. Anyway, I'm not asking somebody to tell me, step by step, how to do this (although I wouldn't mind :-), just some suggestions, pointers, etc. to help me get going. Thanks. -- Mike
