Newbie: TAL Conditions

Hello all, I am a newbie at Zope, slowly traversing the learning curve. I am focusing on TAL currently, and am quite a bit confused with the tal:condition syntax. I have a Z SQL Method that selects all records from a table in a PostgreSQL database. This method is called "getTransfers". I then have a Page Template called "displayTransfers" that displays the results as tabular HTML. This works fine. However, where there isn't a record (i.e. an empty string), a <TD> will not be defined so that it leaves ugly gaps in the table. To ensure that a '<TD> </TD>' replaces an empty string '' I added two tal:condition statements. This works, but is sort of ugly looking as, in my head, it is the equivalent of two 'if' statements when it should be an 'if/else'. The below code works, however is there a cleaner way to do this? ### START CODE ### <table border="1"> <tr><th>Date</th><th>Server</th></tr> <tr tal:repeat="transfer container/getTransfers"> <td tal:content="structure transfer/time_stamp">time_stamp</td> <td tal:condition="python: transfer.server==''"> </td> <td tal:condition="python: transfer.server!=''" tal:content="structure transfer/server">server</td> </tr> </table> ### END CODE ### I'm from a PHP/Perl/mySQL/postgreSQL background and am new to OOP, Python and Zope so I greatly appreciate any assistance with this. You could wrap each <td></td> in a <span tal:omit-tag="" tal:condition=""></span> The tal:omit-tag="" will prevent the <span></span> to be output in the resulting HTML code. object manager - getOb(...) - parameter '_marker'

hi, can somebody give me a hint what the parameter '_marker' is meant for in this code of the zope object manager - def _getOb(self, id, default=_marker): # FIXME: what we really need to do here is ensure that only # sub-items are returned. That could have a measurable hit # on performance as things are currently implemented, so for # the moment we just make sure not to expose private attrs. if id[:1] != '_' and hasattr(aq_base(self), id): return getattr(self, id) if default is _marker: raise AttributeError, id return default _marker ist declared as an empty list at the beginning of the module, but outside of the object manager class ... and as i believe has something to do with the path to (container of) the object ??? thx for any hints steindl friedrich (-:fs)

If the object is not found, this raises an Exception unless you have explicitely given a default value (in that case that value is returned). So _marker is just used to know if a default value has been given by the caller (and that value can be None). Newbie Q: How do I cal ZPT objects from a python script object?

I'm running Zope 2.6.3 on Mac OS 10.3.6 (installed via fink). I'm trying to call a very simple page template from inside a python script object to display a message (in this case, the results of a database insert). Here's my results page template: <html> <head> <title tal:content="template/title">The title</title> <style type="text/css"> @import "/octavo/css/style.css"; </style> </head> <body> <p><span tal:replace="request/msg">msg</span></p> <div align="center"> <p>Logged in as <span tal:content="user/getUserName">User</span></p> </div> </body> </html> If I type the template's URL into a browser (<http://athena.local.:8080/octavo/trackart/results? msg=Foo%20bar%20baz>), it displays Foo bar baz as expected. I just can't call the template from within my python script, when I try I get the following error message Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Error Type: KeyError Error Value: msg I'm calling it from within the script object like so: msg = '%s added to client %s' % (job_id, clientname) return container.results(msg = msg) The script is in the same folder as the results template. Why do I get an attribute error when one tool calls another tool?

I can see that the MemberDataTool is able to call the portal_membership tool using the getToolByName method. forward FileUpload objects through methods

Hi, I've got a weird thing here. I have a function A in a product class that adds a file to the class instance via a HTTP-FileUpload. This function can be called via a form action directly, but I have some pages where the form action needs to be a different method B (of the same class) and also the names for the form fields have to be different. What I do then in the function B is create a dictionary prop and for all FileUpload objects from the form I create an entry in the dictionary with the apropriate name (that is used in function A) and afterwards I execute function A with prop as parameter. But if I return the props from function A I get a "string" for the FileUpload entrys not a FileUpload Instance! Is this known, is there a workaround?
