ZClient Error!

Hi all, I am trying to use ZClient to access a Python Script inside Zope serve script is very simple it is as follows. #!/usr/bin/python from ZPublisher import Client Client.call("http://localhost:8080/test_folder/Portal1/abcd", 'username', 'password') This is executed from a command prompt. Using PIL in zope product

Hello, I am developing an art-gallery type of product, with images of artworks stored as zope Image objects within a folderish product instance. When a new gallery item instance is created, or when the Image object in an existing instance is changed, I want to auto-generate a thumbnail of the image (using PIL) and store it also as a zope Image object. In manage_addAction for example I have this: ... imgfile = REQUEST.image_file if imgfile and imgfile.filename != '': newObjId.manage_addImage('art_piece', imgfile, newObjId.title) newObjId.manage_addImage('art_piece_thumb', makeThumb(imgfile), newObjId.title) ... and here is makeThumb (using PIL): def makeThumb(imagefile): "create thumbnail image from full-size art_piece image" img = Image.open(imagefile) thumb = img.thumbnail((111,111), Image.ANTIALIAS) return thumb I get a zope error triggered by the line img = Image.open(imagefile) like this: Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: FileUpload instance has no attribute '__getitem__' (traceback further below if helpful) So apparently there is some problem with trying to use the image file passed in the request with the PIL functions...it's not a "real" file or at least doesn't have some attributes that PIL is expecting to find, or something like that. Is there a simple way around this the way I'm trying to do it? It shows how to manipulate zope Image objects and PIL Image objects 'on the fly' in memory via an External method. BTW for others, the example is in the "Advanced Zope Scripting" chapter of the online book, about halfway down (just search page for PIL). thanks! Zope, Squid and Apache

Looking at the various bits of documentation for setting up Squid as an httpd accelerator for Zope leaves me a bit confused, especially on how to reconfigure Apache. It looks as though Squid should run as a listener on port 80, but how do I set it up as an accelerator for both Zope and Apache? And do I no longer need to set up any Rewrite rules in Apache? I'm having a difficult time picturing how the whole thing hangs together... -- John

Zope 2.7.3 adding existing products

Hi, Over the past few versions, I have been able to add the following products to my installation ZMySQLDA ZODBCDA I would add them into the C:\teched-lp01\lib\python\Products path. Zope 2.7.3 is different. When I put them in the C:\Zope-Instance\Products or the C:\Zope-2.7.3-0\lib\python\Products the runzope ends. If I remove them Zope starts up. I am running Zope under Windows XP SP2. My Zope 2.6.1 works fine. I google around but I did not see pointers to this issue. Thanks, Larry

redirect between domains & maintain login

I have set up a portal of shopping sites. Each merchant we support has their own domain set up. e.g. http://www.some-merchant.com Seeing as they are shopping sites certain pages have to be handled by SSL. Due to SSL limitations only 1 SSL domain +certificate can exist per ip, and we only have 1 ip. Therefore my solution is that for non SSL pages the merchant can use their own unique domain name, but all SSL pages will be redirected to https://merchantname.portal.com and an SSL certificate is setup with a CN of *.portal.com A problem arises when switching between domains like this. The login cookie is lost. Curently i do a redirect between domains and include __ac_name and __ac_password arguments in the URL so the user stays logged in, but this causes the username and password to be displayed in the address bar in plain text. I'd like to secure this more. Is there any way that i could A - Encrypt __ac_name and __ac_password values? or B - Set the cookie for both domains so name and password dont have to be transferred? shell commands: zShellScripts or external methods?

I'm writing a web interface for a C++program and I need to construct and issue a shell command to start the job, passing a few options on the command line. something like ./analyzeSeq -i /tmp/ara03_45.txt -d .003 -k 1.22 Is it a better idea to use external methods and os.* or zShellScripts for this? thanks -- David

Categorised listings/access levels

OK, bit of an odd problem. I'm trying to create a Zope product that will display a series of items. The items have a title, URL and description displayed. They will also be sorted by categories - two main categories (mine, others) and many subcategories. An item can only have one main category and one subcategory. When displayed the items will be sorted main category->sub category->title, in alphabetic order, but I might want to sort in other ways. So, to get to the point, I was wondering what the Zope method of actually doing this would be. In PHP I'd create a table referencing the main/subcategories and just use an ORDER BY. In Zope I was thinking of using two classes - a container (subclass ObjectManager) and an item class. The item would have all the properties and I'd sort through those, possibly using a ZCatalog or something to index. I was wondering if that was the 'correct' approach, and if so what could I do to optimise searching? Secondly, a related problem. I want one user to have read/write access to the product, and others to have a read-only access, and anonymous to have no access. I assume that to give the access levels I'd create roles using SecurityManager calls in the Product class, and for the read/write role I'd use a local role. I would also guess that I'd assign local roles for each person with read/write access, as it would need to be set on a per-instance basis. I'm still making the PHP->Zope transition.
