KeywordIndex Error and Startup Exception

Hi, Last night, the Zope service on one of my servers has crashed. When I looked into the $STUPID_LOG_FILE, I found that a whole bunch of errors had happened during the day, first this one: ----- 2004-02-03T12:49:18 ERROR(200) KeywordIndex unindex_object tried to retrieve set 'wauw - systeem' from index Subject but couldn't. This should not happen. ----- And next several ones like this: ------ 2004-02-03T13:59:03 ERROR(200) KeywordIndex unindex_object could not remove documentId 1986485462 from index Subject. This should not happen. Traceback (innermost last): File /usr/src/redhat/BUILD/Zope-2.5.1-src/lib/python/Products/PluginIndexes/common/UnIndex.py, line 168, in removeForwardIndexEntry (Object: Subject) KeyError: 1986485462 ------ I have cronjob running that creates a backup and packs Data.fs at 21:00. This involves stopping and starting Zope. According to $STUPID_LOG_FILE, this worked well. But later I got this: ------ 2004-02-04T00:00:26 PANIC(300) z2 Startup exception Traceback (innermost last): File z2.py, line 497, in ? File <string>, line 1, in ? There must be another process that has opened the file. <p> ------ This morning, after finding out, I could just restart Zope, as if nothing had happened. I had the impression that about 20 documents had disappeared, so I restored Data.fs from the backup I made yestarday evening. Questions: 1. What were the KeywordIndex errors all about? Should I get worried? 2. Were the KeywordIndex errors the cause of the crash this night? I use Python 2.1.3 and Zope 2.5.1, on RedHat 8.0. Raising an exception from tal

Is there an accepted idiom for raising an exception via tal? Or, do I need to script that? What I'm trying to do is raise a NotFound exception under certain conditions. Thanks!

Pass Variable to ZSQL from HTML page REQUEST object.

Hi, I have a html page with the following dtml tag: <dtml-in get_names> <dtml-var NAME></a> <BR> </dtml-in> When the page loads it calls the zsql that returns NAME and JOB. So I can access these from the request object, as above. However, how would I pass a variable to the zSQL? The value of the variable I want to pass is stored in the request object when the page loads. I have looked in the book but this is not explained? In the example above, I would wish to pass a vaiable to the get_names SQL? Any help appreciated, Rob

Proxy roles

I have a question concerning proxy roles. The problem I have encountered is that when I grant a proxy role to a script, other scripts and templates called from that script do not posess that role. popen2, popen3, popen4 and Zope

The popen libraries don't seem to function properly when used from a Zope External Method or product. I use the standard idiom -- i, o = os.popen2( cmd ) i.close() res = o.read() but Zope seems to hangs on the read whenever cmd is anything of any complexity, for example, a shell script that fires off a python instance that detaches itself and then initiates another insance of Zope. Is the problem a threading issue? Is there a preferred mechanism for spawning a process?

Dynamic Reference, mixing ZOPE and SQL

I have a sequence of code that is monstrously inefficient and am looking for help. I am storing the id tag of an ExtFile object in my sql database along with other information and am now creating a page that displays info from the database record by record. For each record displayed, I also want to pull the file size from the Zope side of things. The method which works is something like this: <dtml-in my_query> <dtml-comment> query returns file_id amongst other values </dtml-comment> <dtml-with files> <dtml-in "objectValues(['ExtFile'])"> <dtml-if "id == file_id"> <dtml-var size> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> </dtml-with> </dtml-in> With a 1000+ ExtFile objects in the "files" folder, the search is ok for just one record being displayed; however, if this page is displaying all 1000+ files based on the SQL records, then for each SQL record returned it is iterating through the entire contents of my files folder, and is very slow to resolve. What I am looking for is a way to say: <dtml-in my_query> <dtml-comment> query returns file_id amongst other values </dtml-comment> <dtml-var files.file_id.size> //where file_id is a dynamic ref // not the id itself </dtml-in> However, I don't know a good method for doing a dynamic reference here, such as the following which fails: <dtml-in my_query> <dtml-comment> query returns file_id amongst other values </dtml-comment> <dtml-with files> <dtml-in "objectValues(['ExtFile'])._['file_id']"> <dtml-var size> </dtml-in> </dtml-with> </dtml-in> I am just extrapolating from things like using "sequence-item" in an expression changes it over to "_['sequence-item']". Not even sure the dtml-in would work the way I want, but the idea is there. Maybe to effectively use something like this to reference an object I explicitly know: <dtml-in my_query> <dtml-comment> query returns file_id amongst other values </dtml-comment> <dtml-var "files._['file_id'].size"> </dtml-in> The above approach throws unauthorized exceptions, so obviously not the right way to go about it. Anyone know the correct syntax for achieving this both inside a python expression and/or as a direct dtml expression? Thanks, -- Ryan T. Not to mention that if the originator of the link is a web page, the information is in the html code, even if using a post. Otherwise, in Zope, using GET or POST works equally well. Unless you do something really special, you can actually switch between using one or the other without changing code or anything else. The only gotchas are that using very few browsers handle redirecting POST transactions correctly. Sean, Yup, you've got it right. Just run many zopes on many ports and proxy accordingly form within Apache using VHM or whatever. I assume that the apache server will hand everything off as 80 so I could choose something like 8081 for my second zope instance with no problems right?
