'Der Taeter wurde festgenommen, die Tatwaffe sichergestellt', so Muenchens Polizeisprecher Christoph Reichenbach. 'Wir ermitteln gegen ihn wegen versuchten Mordes.' Mochles A. hatte sich eigentlich gar nicht in Muenchen aufhalten duerfen. Er wohnt in einem Auslaenderheim in Chemnitz. Laut Gesetz darf er eine eng begrenzte Zone um die Stadt nicht verlassen. Nun bleibt der Messerstecher in Muenchen. Aber hinter Gittern. Denn ein Richter erliess Haftbefehl. Zope 3 Experiences - UI

I don't expect many users have tried Zope 3 yet, but I'm hoping for some feedback from the not-so-technical user groups who have. First off, I find Zope3 totally different from Zope2.x. For example, the task of creating a new user was trivial in Zope2, and it took me a few seconds to figure out what was needed to accomplish this without reading the manual. Power of the UI. I find the same task overly convoluted in Zope3. I know the product is in testing, but my question is - is the user interface going to get better? If not, the learning curve for new users is suddenly much steeper. Perhaps I need to read more before I try things in Zope3. But, for someone like me who has now been using Zope2 for the past 15 months, it then feels like starting over. And I'd call that a steep learning curve. Comments? Samir

zopectl won't read other conf file except zope.conf

Hi, I want to run multiple zope instances from the same instance tree, using different zope.conf files. The difference is only in filename for pid-,lock-,eventlog-file, and http port number. I change the -C option in zopectl to point to zope-custom.conf, but zopectl still read the zope.conf. If zope.conf is not present in etc folder, zope refuses to start, although -C points to a valid conf file. Here's how to produce: # cd /path/to/zope-instance # cp etc/zope.conf etc/zope-custom.conf # mv etc/zope.conf etc/zope-default.conf # vi bin/zopectl <----- edit CONFIG_FILE="/path/to/zope-instance/etc/zope-custom.conf" # bin/zopectl start . . daemon process started, pid=1234 Then zope terminates quietly... How can I force zopectl to use different conf file other than zope.conf? Thanks! Regards, zm

Showing progress for long running tasks

Hi! I want to write a function which invokes wget for a given URL. Now this can take quite some time, how can I provide some progress indicator? I don't think it's practical to stream data to the browser until the donwload is complete, so I need some way to check back on the progress every time a special page is requested. So the question is, how can I start a process in the background and check back on it ('s stdout) whenever requested? I'm using Zope 2.7.0 and Plone 2.0.3. Regards, Florian Schulze

Broken the login page therby locking myself out

Hi, I have a piece of code that is crashing my login page, it does not effect the ZMI once I am in it but I cannot get back in to remove the offending piece of code. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get around this, the offending piece of code is a portlet sitting in the left hand column of most pages of a plone installation. can't install external editor, help

Hi all, I am trying to install the helper app of the external editor program, when I run install I get an error:ImportError: No module named distutils.core. I guessed that distutils.core was contained in the python-dev package so I did an apt-get install python2.3-dev. But still the same error. Then I installed python-dev with no better results. Anyone out there can tell me what I am missing? thanks Aaron

Newbie emergency user probs

Hello, Have faced login problems in mandrake10, mozilla 1.6. MySQL 3.23 (client and server) is installed manually. Zope is installed via grafical mandrake GUI. Pythons 2.1 and 2.3 are available in machine. After zope installation have executed password change statement 'python zpasswd.py access' in order to create emergency user. That was done in /usr/lib/zope/bin directory. As per slocate -command, inituser file does not exists in machine. Zope is up and runnig. Zopectl says: program: /usr/bin/runzope program running; pid=3422 When i enter into browser http://localhost:9080/manage I am able to enter userid and password (created in earlier step). System just don't let me log in. What have i done incorrectly? Have installed zope 7 times already. Is anyone able to run zope 2.7 in mandrake 10? kind regards, Salppa

Zope installation on Red Hat 9

Hi, I have been trying to install Zope-2.7.0 on my server. I have managed an install on my local XP Windows machine and can see that if offers a lot and I'd like to get it active on my server so I can make more use of it and offer it to a couple of my users. The machine is a co-located server own by 1and1. It runs Plesk 6.0 as the user interface for managing accounts etc. I have logged on using sshd(putty.exe). installed Python 2.3.4. I also appear to have successfully installed Zope. I also appear to have successfully installed a number of Zope instances. I am asked for directory, user and password and reply to these. However, whenever I try to runzope with command ./bin/runzope I always get an error saying no logging module. Full output below the text of this message. I have also tried to install on a local Linux machine running Lindows 4.5, based on Debian with updated Python to 2.3.4. I get the same error there. His makes me suspect that I am doing something wrong. I have read the installation instructions but unfortunately some of it makes no sense to me. I'd like to be able to run Zope run on port 80 or via https as may not always be able to access my server via port 8080. I'm reluctant to mess with the Apache files as I have other web sites on this server that I don't want to put at risk and as you can probably guess I am not as familiar with Linux as I really ought to be.
