Starting a search from the correct folder

Understanding that Zope could do something like this has taken me quite a bit of time, although I still don't understand how this code works. What it actualy does is list the folders in the current folder and then allows me to select one which generates a subsequent list. What I'd like to do is skip the first list. If I want to generate a list of folders in say the 'groups' folder, how would I change the code above? -- John

strcoll_nocase gone after moving site?

I have to move a Plone site to another server (from some FreeBSD to a new Trustix), while also switching from Zope 2.7.x<5 to 2.7.6, and from Python 2.3.x<5 to Python 2.3.5. I have built everything from source, copied 1:1 the Products and Extension directory into a fresh new zope instance, also imported the exported Plone site into it. Was this procedure incorrect? Because till now the result is a disaster; things that worked till now suddenly don't work anymore. Anyway, this is what currently seems to win over me: DocumentTemplate\sequence\SortEx.py line 172: elif f_name in ("locale_nocase", "strcoll_nocase"): func = strcoll_nocase And here "global name 'strcoll_nocase' is not defined". I figured this is because in the same file earlier, line 136: import sys if sys.modules.has_key("locale"): # only if locale is already imported from locale import strcoll def strcoll_nocase(str1, str2): return strcoll(str1.lower(), str2.lower()) and there the condition of the if is false. If I add import locale before that if, then the error disappears. Any idea what's going on? Why is the locale module be expected to be already imported, and why is it not imported when it was on the other server? -- Best regards, Daniel Dekany

I am pleased to announce the release of TextIndexNG V 3.0.4. TextIndexNG V 3 is a complete new implementation based on Zope 3 technologies and can be used both in Zope 2.8 or 2.7 (with Five) or in Zope 3. What's new? - multi-field indexing and query support - multi-lingual support - configurable converters (through ZCML) - new indexing API (allowing you to hook your custom content types with TextIndexNG through Zope 3 adapters). Changes since V 3.0.2: - added stemming support for eleven languages - fixed several bugs in the multi-field query support - keyForDocument() no longer raises an exception causing a crash of the ZCatalog ZMI screen for documents not indexed by a TextIndexNG3 instance - now licensed under the Zope Public License V 2.1 (ZPL) - was formerly GPL Requirements: - Zope 2.8 or Zope 2.7 (+ Five) or Zope 3 (Zope 3 has nothing like catalogs yet) TextIndexNG V3 will *not* run with bare Zope 2.7 installations without Five (and this will not be changed in the future). It's basically the same procedure as with former versions except you *need* to recompile the extension modules. Newbie Questions - many-many relationships? Zope 2 or 3?

Database Question Hello, I'm a newbie, so this is a newbie question! I am currently preparing to build a web application for property lettings, and I'm very interested in what Zope has to offer. The application will need to recognise a number of different objects, such as "houses", "prospective tenants" and "property owners" (the latter of which I may implement as user types, which would allow these people to log in and amend some of their own information.) I'm very interested in the Object Oriented way of doing things; for example, I'm thinking about implementing houses as a folder-ish object, so it would be able to contain photos of the house in question. The biggest stumbling block I am facing is how to do something "Relational" in an OO environment. Specifically, I've been scratching my head for a while about how to handle a many-many relationship: a property owner may own more than one house; conversely, a house may have more than one co-owner - consequently it's not appropriate to have either containing the other. I've googled for general information about handling many-many relationships in OO, and most of what I've come across has only indicated that it can be tricky! Having a look through past threads on this mailing list I've noticed a few references to mxmRelations (http://www.zope.org/Members/maxm/products/mxmRelations) which seems to match up - have I got the right end of the stick? Before I jump in with this I'd appreciate any advice or guidance you could provide - it'd be greatly appreciated. While Im on, Ive noticed that Zope 3 has been released. Is this now the recommended development environment, or am I better off sticking with Zope 2 for now, and porting my application once Zope 3 is a bit further down the line? Rob, I was recently working on a similar problem. You will need to use the xmlhttprequest function in Javascript do all the work. And its quite easy once you get the hang of it. Heres a good tutorial to get started: http://developer.apple.com/internet/webcontent/xmlhttpreq.html For your problem, if your required server result is a simple list, let a zope script generate a tab-delimited list and you can retrive it using the request.responseText (see the xmlhttprequest) and skip working with the XMLDOM, which can by quite annoying. It gave me some ideas, but alas no luck. To clarify, I am not trying to do everything in one request. Even with generating the script with a Python script or DTML, the problem remains (for me at least) to get a value from the DOM passed as an argument to a Python script that queries my database. If my Python script didn't take an argument, I'd have no problem. I could do this and use javascript to build the select options from the appropriate values. But I'd like to cut down on what the browser has to handle. What the user chooses in the first selection can reduce what they get to choose in selection two from 3000 choices to hundreds. I'd prefer to have the backend reduce the result set rather than having the browser do the work. I thought about AJAX (no experience), but given time constraints, looks like I'll have to load everything on the page and go from there. Rob
