The CMF developer community and Zope Corporation are pleased to announce the release of version 1.5.4-beta of the Zope Content Management Framework (CMF). This release is intended for testing purposes only; we do not recommend deploying it to production servers. The final release of version 1.5.4 is expected to land within the next 10 days. What is the CMF? The Zope Content Management Framework provides a set of services and content objects useful for building highly dynamic, content-oriented portal sites. As packaged, the CMF generates a site much like the Zope.org site. The CMF is intended to be easily customizable, in terms of both the types of content used and the policies and services it provides. Help!!! Zope won't start -- StorageSystemError

Hi folks, This is my first post to this list and I'm desperate for help. I'm running Zope 2.6.1 with Python 2.1.3. My Zope instance died today and won't come back. There must be another process that has opened the file. <p> ------ 2005-08-27T20:58:15 PROBLEM(100) zdaemon zdaemon: Sat Aug 27 16:58:15 2005: The kid, 1657, died on me. At first I deleted Data.fs.lock and cannot find any process that would suggest zope is running. I've also played with renaming various .pid files in hopes of an answer. I'm stumped and in very hot water right now. Any help or guidance would be very appreciated. Thanks, Dan

Data.fs Windows to Linux?

I thought that I would back up my data.fs by copyting the entire Linux /var directory to a Windows machine with spare disk space and then creating a ZIP file on the Windows machine. There was a problem on the Linux machine, so I figured there'd be no problem by simply copying the data.fs (via a Samba share) back from Windows -> Linux. It seems that when Zope starts back up, it keeps attempting to deal with the "alien" database and then shuts down. The Same Database File Works Perfectly With A Windows Plone/Zope Installation ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I installed a Windows version of Plone (with Zope of course) and that same data.fs file works just fine in the Windows environment. Questions: ------------ 1) Am I without hope of ever running the database under Linux again? 2) What is the reason that the database goes from Linux -> Windows OK but not in the other direction? 3) MOST IMPORTANT: Is there a technique I can use to tweak the database file or recover it so that it is Linux-friendly?

ZASync method calls

Hi! I'm having a really complicated problem that I don't know how to put into words properly, because I'm really vague on what's causing it and the setup is highly involved; I would be _really_ glad if someone could help me out with this: I have a ZOPE instance (connected to a ZEO server) running a custom method call wrapper that decides (based on the method's arguments) to run a method asynchronously using zasync (as well as some other stuff that I think isn't important in the context of my problem). All this has been tested. For various reasons, the method call's path is approximately as follows: 0. Method call using a generic Python method 1. Python code - resolves the method's location and name using ZOPE methods 2. Method dispatcher (called via ZOPE): dispatches synchronously or asynchronously, using zasync, zope_exec and putSessionCall; the method called is again a ZOPE method that calls the final method as another ZOPE method The apparent massive indirection cannot be avoided (for rather complicated reasons). Everything is supposed to be highly generic. My problem is this: if I use a test method that dispatches such an asynchronous method that is supposed to change an instance variable (the class is persistent) and run for ten seconds, then wait for fourteen seconds and see if the method has run (check the instance variable) synchronously (while the asynchronous method is supposed to work in the background), I find the variable unchanged; further checks (using print statements) confirm that the asynchronous method indeed doesn't run until my assertion fails, even if I give it a lot of time. If I disconnect both - run the long running method asynchronously, then run (via ZOPE directly, not from within the same method call) a synchronous method that waits for fourteen seconds and checks the variable, the asynchronous call works just fine (even though both run alongsinde for a time). It isn't the number of threads available to the zserver, I've increased that and nothing has changed. Manual tests of asynchronous methods also don't show anything wrong with my zasync setup. I can only assume that the asynchronous method is _started_ only _after_ the caller has finished. Is there a reason for that, and can I circumvent it? Or am I completely wrong and something else isn't working? I'm on Windows XP SP2, ZOPE 2.7.6, Python 2.3.5 with Twisted installed. TIA, Ole

Hi, I try to find information about programming in Zope with the OO paradigm. I didn't find many documentation... For instance, how can I define classes and instances once I just work with dtml-methods and dtml-documents? Thanks. Fernando Lujan

I previously tried to do this using the syntax provided by zope help: title:string="default value" but had no luck. Random Module

Why won't Zope let me call the random module? It's really annoying to have to write an external method to call such a simple tool. Is there a way around this? Thanks.

Locking MySQL tables via Z MySQL Database Connections

I'm confused as to what the thread "scope rules" are between Zope and MySQL. I would like to be able to emulate transaction control in MySQL in a Python script in Zope, but I'm unclear as to how the Z MySQL DB Connection works, and what defines a "thread" for it? I need to be able to LOCK tables, INSERT, SELECT, INSERT, and then UNLOCK the tables. But, if I put each of these commands in separate Z SQL queries, and call them each from a Python script, are they guaranteed to be in the same SQL thread, so that their locking context will be the same, or will they all be executed on different MySQL threads? Or...on the other extreme, does every query from a Zope server use the same connection thread? And does that thread simply exist until the connection times out and it has to reconnect?
