Help with virtual hosting Zope on different ports

I have two Zope versions running behind Apache 1.3 (on FreeBSD 4) using different ports on the same server. The only domain name currently assigned to the server is for a Squishdot site on the older Zope version (2.5.1) that I haven't been able to upgrade, and I don't want to spend the time figuring it out right now. The newer Zope version (2.8.1) has a Plone site that I would like to run as a domain of its own. Can someone help me figure out the combination of Apache rewrite rules and Zope/Plone products I would need to use to accomplish this? Just to try to make it clear, what I want is: request: oldsite.com result: myserver:8093/oldsite request: newsite.com result: myserver:8580/newsite This is possible, isn't it? RewriteRule Witch

Hello Zopistas! Virtual hosting with Zope usually involves setting up Apache "in front" of Zope, putting a Virtual Host Monster into your Zope Root and configuring some RewriteRules in your httpd.conf. Since I don't do this every day (like most zopistas, I guess), every time I have to dig up my knowledge of rewrite rules again from almost scratch. Now I wrote a little script to help me with the most frequent cases of those RewriteRules. You can try out the Rewrite Rule Witch online: http://betabug.ch/zope/witch Please note that there might still be bugs and mistakes in there. I'm happy to receive feedback about this thing. Especially interesting would be to try out some of the configurations you have and see if the result is what you actually use. I cover only the most basic variants, but likely the ones used for 95% of Zope setups. I do not yet cover rewriting "/manage" URLs to https (next project!) Regards, Sascha

"TestODBCEM" is an external method that uses a python module with a function named "TestODBCEM". This function uses the parameters sysDSN, usr, mypass, sSQL to connect to the sysDSN with user name usr, password mypass and execute sSQL query. Text field and module import questions

Greetings, It appears that the text input field I have created using a dtml method has a default space character when you click in the field. Is there a way to get rid of this? Also, I have a python script that I would like to import a python module, but when I run it Zope complains the user does not have authorization. Is there a way around this? Thanks. Ivan

I've found where this topic is covered in "The Definitive Guide to Plone" (pp. 292-303) and have installed Virtual Host Monsters in both Zope instances. I still have some questions about how to edit httpd.conf, but since that's just an Apache issue, I'll sign off with a "Neverrrr Minnnnd..."

Character set problems

Hey guys, I've installed Zope on a FreeBSD server. My problem domain is very small: display a list of when people are unavailable, and let people update the list. This is all in Danish, and here are come my problems. Danish has three extra letters not in the ASCII alfabet, three upper-case and three lower-case. When getting the data from a <input name="test" /> where I've written "æ ø å Æ Ø Å", I get: Ã¦ Ã¸ Ã¥ Ã† Ã˜ Ã… What is the standard way of ensuring that I get the correct data? I tried writing a little converter, but the string tekst = tekst.replace("\xc3\xa6", "ae"); gives me the error *UnicodeDecodeError: **'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xc3 in position 0: ordinal not in range(128)* Do you have any suggestion on how to overcome these problems? The python processes occupied 100% of machines resources (cpu and memory), and the load average increased quickly. We evidenced that the problems had occurred before user authentication, only trying access the initial page of the Zope portal. We estimated that the simultaneous accesses to our portal are approximately 10000 people in a moment, that finished generating a DoS (Denial of Service) in our portal. To resolve the problem momentarily, we posted static documents in PHP, without Zope. Have someone experience in sites of great traffic using Zope? If so, please give us some tip for tunning the system or discover the bootleneck points. Zope 3.1.0 RC 3 released!

The Zope 3 development team is proud to announce Zope 3.1.0 candidate 3. Zope 3 is the next major Zope release and has been written from scratch based on the latest software design patterns and the experiences of Zope 2. It is in our opinion that Zope 3.1 is more than ready for production use, which is why we decided to drop the 'X' for experimental from the name. We will also continue to work on making the transition between Zope 2 and Zope 3 as smooth as possible. As a first step, Zope 2.8 includes Zope 3 features in the form of Five. Now that we have a release that we would like to declare stable next week, we are looking for translators, who translate Zope 3 into their favorite language!
