zopectl not starting properly

When I run zopectl start, it says daemon process started. But I get connected refused when I try to go to port 8080. Then if I check the process, I find zope is not running. Sudden Errors

Hey Everyone! I have run into a large problem. I had attempted to add a "Local File System" object to one of my folders. It displayed the following error and now I cannot access the parent container NOR refresh the tree view. When I do, the *second* error below is displayed. Zope and OAI-PMH

I've been assigned to integrate an existing academic portal in Plone with the OAI-PMH protocol as a data provider. Searching through this list I found the message below, but no response. context and URLs

Im working on a zope application where i have several folders, all at the same level (not parent/children). In one case a ZPT calls a script in another folder, which in turn calls another ZPT in the first folder again. My problem is that the base (?) URL (context?) which Zope prepends to all objects keeps building up (with the script folders name) each time this happens, and eventually something brakes probably because an object cant be found by acquisition. Example: links created by href in ZPTs is first http://mysite/folderA/object, then changes to http://mysite/folderA/folderB/object, then to http://mysite/folderA/folderB/folderB/object and so on... If anyone can explain this to me, or link me to some examples on how this should be done, i would be glad!

Zope 2.8.x and python security audit

Off Topic: Good linux editors?

Hi list, I'm fairly new to Linux (ubuntu server version) and simply hate VIM. Nor do I want to mind meld with the complex EMACS. I just wonder what Editors some of you prefer as you write stuff like external scripts, etc. thx, David

Error importing objects 2.8 > 2.7

*Been working up some code on a zope 2.8.0 install, and I wanted to move it over to a live server. I keep getting this error: Error Type: AttributeError* *Error Value: 'module' object has no attribute '__newobj__' The new server is curious becuase it reads: * Zope Version (unreleased version, python 2.2.3, linux2) Python Version 2.2.3 (#1, Aug 8 2003, 08:44:02) [GCC 3.2.3 20030502 (Red Hat Linux 3.2.3-13)] This was an RPM install as far as I remember. 2.7 I think Do I need to get 2.8.0 on this production box, or is there an easy fix to get this .zexp imported? thanks for any tips! -e-

Where to begin (Performance on 2.9.0 vs. 2.8.4)

Migrating systems to 2.9.0, we have noticed "sluggish" behavior compared to 2.8.4. The 2.8.4 systems run on a dual processor AMD2600 32-bit processors. The 2.9.0 systems run on AMD dual opteron 240 processors. The dual opteron systems have much more memory, much faster memory, and faster disks. We use mysql and pound and a number of other systems. I am trying to localize and quantify the performance issue we are seeing. I have checked the raw hardware as seen by python: 2.9.0 machine: Pystone(1.1) time for 50000 passes = 1.07 This machine benchmarks at 46729 pystones/second 2.8.4 machine: Pystone(1.1) time for 50000 passes = 1.23 This machine benchmarks at 40650.4 pystones/second Running disk benchmarks suggests that the 2.9.0 machine is faster in disk operations by 10 to 20 percent. I have not yet checked raw network operations yet, but I suspect that they show equivalent performance. I believe that Zopes are working fine and that the performance problems we are seeing are in the management of network input and output rather than in the Zopes themselves. Is there some performance test I can use to characterize the Zope system itself so I can compare Zopes running on the two machines?

Security class attribute

Now in Zope 2.9 I get these warnings:: 2006-01-26 14:31:45 WARNING Init Class Products.MyProduct.Homesite.FilesContainer has a security declaration for nonexistent method 'FileManagement' That's understandable because I've coded it like this:: class MyProduct(...): security=ClassSecurityInfo() security.declareProtected('View', 'FileManagement.html') setattr(MyProduct, 'FileManagement.html', MyProduct.FileManagement) In other words, I create methods after the class has been defined and squeeze them in manually. Very convenient. To avoid the WARNING message above I thought I could use declareProtected() _after_ the the class has been defined just as with the additional method; but no luck :( I tried this:: class MyProduct(...): security=ClassSecurityInfo() setattr(MyProduct, 'FileManagement.html', MyProduct.FileManagement) MyProduct.security.declareProtected('View', 'FileManagement.html') But I'm getting:: AttributeError: type object 'MyProduct' has no attribute 'security' Which I totally don't understand. To test my sanity I wrote this test script which works fine:: class _Z: def __init__(self): self.z = "Z" def declareProtected(self, *a,**k): print "++declare something+" def foo(): print "I'm being called" return _Z() class A: security=foo() def __init__(self): pass A.security.declareProtected("foo") print dir(A) Which works like you'd expect with the followin output:: I'm being called ++declare something+ ['__doc__', '__init__', '__module__', 'security'] What's going on [differently] in Zope?
