Why do you want to recode into DTML? I think that is piece of good code and much faster than DTML. read-only-database

Wrong time displayed on events

I've just installed Plone 2.5.1 on Zope 2.9.6 running on FreeBSD 6-STABLE. On my newly created Plone site, whenever I add an event, it's displayed with the wrong time. For instanced, if I create one that runs between 2006-12-05 19:30 and 22:00, it gets rendered like: (<span class="location">Some Event</span>, from <abbr class="dtstart" title="2006-12-05 19:30:00">2006-12-05 13:30</abbr> to <abbr class="dtend" title="2006-12-05 22:00:00">2006-12-05 16:00</abbr>) The server and I live in the CST time zone, which accounts for the 6-hour offset (as though I entered the time in UTC and it's converting it to CST for display). But since I never entered a timezone anywhere, why's it doing any conversion at all instead of just assuming that all times entered are local to the server? Is there a way to fix this, other than deliberately entering all times for events six hours too late, and letting Plone "fix" the display? -- Kirk Strauser Daycos

Zope + Oracle + Cron

We have zope installation that uses an Oracle backend to store data on. We also have the system setup to do a backup of the database and Zope Installation everyday. Everything runs smoothly until it comes time to start Zope back up. For some reason whenever the script tries to start Zope back up, it comes up but with a broken ZOracleDA product. It complains about not being able to find the library file called libclntsh.so.9.0. If I try to start Zope myself from command line right after the script is done running (actually stop it then start it again) it works and connects to Oracle fine. I've tried using "nice" to up the priority level but it doesn't seem to work. I also thought that maybe I wasn't giving oracle enough time to start up so I've tried adding sleep commands to the script, again, with no luck. If anyone has any experience in this field or has any suggestions, please let me know. This is a quite annoying situation, as this server is quite important to the company and downtime is a bad thing. -David

Zope 2.9.5 -> 2.9.6 DateTime Change

Today I started testing Zope 2.9.6. After the upgrade I noticed that some calendar data generated from Oracle was wrong. After some investigation I found that Zope 2.9.6 seems to assign a timezone of GMT+0 when none is specified rather than using the server's timezone. For example, the following SQL query to an oracle database: select TO_DATE('12-13-2006 01:00','MM-DD-YYYY HH:MI') from dual Under 2.9.5 returns: 2006/12/13 01:00:00 US/Eastern Under 2.9.6 returns: 2006/12/13 01:00:00 GMT+0 There was clearly no time zone defined in the query, and it's the same Oracle server. Is this an intended change? We have hundreds of developers working independently within our system so it's not possible to adapt each application to account for this change. Any advice on moving to Zope 2.9.6? In the mean time I my try to back port specific bug fixes into 2.9.5. Thank you, -- Brian Brinegar Web Systems Developer Engineering Computer Network

Hi all, I would like to share my user view about zope, I would like zope to strive to embody into Data.fs the best trimmed down objects as possible, leaving on the file system most of the content. Text files and pictures should be accessible by external editors, mail should be accessible by external mail readers, and so on. Zope main role would then be to establish connections between external objects, collecting, indexing, sorting and viewing external objects (editing capability would not be needed). Is anybody working in that direction? thank you -- Pol

Wrapping zope with socksify

Hello, we wanted to open connections from within zope to other elements. As the other elements require that we connect to them via a socks server, we considered it a good idea to wrap zope with socksify. socksify is a program from the dante package which allows you to add socks support for any network application by just wrapping the application with socksify. It is just like using strace on linux. Now we got the problem that zope randomly crashed. We suspected that the socksify version we used was faulty and tried it with the latest socksify version as a static compiled binary, but had similar problems. Did somebody else try to wrap zope with socksify and had success with it? I found only this hint that application developers should take care of: *select(2)/poll(2)*applications combining non-blocking sockets with select(2)/poll(2) need to make sure they can handle the select(2)/poll(2) call being interrupted. This is due to how the Dante clientlibrary implements support for non-blocking connect(2).But our application crashed randomly, and not when we tried to access certain ftp servers. Make folder's default view the contents of an item based on latest date

Hi I'm using Plone 2.5.1 on Mac OSX 10.4 and Win XP. I have the following folder structure: Daily News All Archive 2006 Jan Feb ... Jan, Feb, etc are smart folder that select items based on their effective date. This allows news items to be automatically classified. I'd like users to add items to folder All. When users click Daily News, I'd like the most recent item to be shown. I don't want a link to the most recent item but its contents so Daily News always shows the contents of the most recent news item. Someone suggested adding a smart folder (say, Latest) under Daily News and letting it pick items. Then make Latest the default content item for Daily News. This however results in the items being shown as a list of links in Daily News. I want the content of the latest always visible under Daily News. Any suggests? If I have to code something, please provide clues. I've developed in many languages but not Python (I'm going through Python in a Nutshell, at the moment). Thanks Praful
