Templates vs DTML

We've been using DTML but we are at a point where we could move to page templates. We are starting a major restruture and rewrite of much of the system and are debating moving to ZPT. Performance is potentially a major issue. We are using Zope 2.9.X, will eventually move to Zope 2.10.X and Five. Python 2.4.X. Has anyone done any benchmark comparison of the two design choices? For the same functionality, which performs better. No flame wars about which is better, just information about performance.

Using PIL 'inside' Zope

Hi, Does anyone know of a way to use the PIL imaging library within a Zope instance. If i do from PIL import Image I get Module AccessControl.ZopeGuards, line 284, in guarded_import ImportError: import of "Image" from "PIL" is unauthorized. You are not allowed to access 'Image' in this context Anyway to change this restriction? Is it advisable to change it? PIL works fine when using it via an external method, but this is a bit cumbersome for what I need to do. Advice appreciated. Jamie

Hi all, One of my Zope (2.8.4 on Python 2.4.2, SLES9) sites constantly hits the memory limit. It makes heavy use of two products - ExtFile (1.5.0) and OpenFlow (1.1.0). ExtFile class (of ExtFile) and workitem class (of OpenFlow) are leading the refcount list with a not-constant but overall increasing numbers of references. Refcounts for both reach numbers that are incomparably higher than the numbers of their instances in ZoDB. I wanted to ask if there are known leaks in these products before going into (painful) hunting and debugging leaks in my own code. Thanks!

How to set selected items in multi-select list from lines property

Aloha, I have an "add" form where a user can add an object. In one part of the form, the user selects zero or more options from a multiple select list. The selected options populate a lines property of the object when the object is added. I also have an "edit" form where the user can later edit these same objects they've created. They can use the same multiple select list to change the selected options. Of course the previously selected options (in the lines property) need to be displayed as such when they first visit the edit form. So... I need to know how to display the multiple-select list in the "edit" form so that the options currently in the lines property are set as selected. I suspect there is some very slick way to do this, maybe with TAL alone...? So far I am only coming up with what seem to be cumbersome solutions that have unecessary overhead (comparing a list option with every element in lines property via python script to see if it should be set selected, and repeating for every list option)...is there a better way? Z SQL Method question

Hello, Who has experience with Z SQL Method. I Created a from to enten some data into MySQL server. I used Z SQL Method to write the dat into the databse. Everytime I submit the form I get a screen with the field in my Z SQL Method component. How can I write the dat from a form into my database at once by using Z SQL Method ? left frame loads after a very long time

Hi, loading the ZMI with a browser is usually a rather long process but since we updated the OS on our machine (Suse 10.1 with GCC 4.1) the left frame (manage_menu) needs now more than 4mn to be loaded eating all the cpu. We use a ZEO-configuration with Zope-2.8.7. I installed the ZopeProfiler but can't figure out much of the output. The script "ClientStorage.py" is the one that takes the longest time by far. Any clues as to what might be wrong there or where I should have a look to understand the problem more deeply? Thanks in advance for any help. Raphael

Ghost user in Zope 2.7.6 on Win32

We have a strange case of a user disappearing from the acl_users folder. The user used to be there and has been using the web site for some months but today, she reports that she has lost her permissions. Investigation revealed that her user id had disappeared from acl_users (it was the only one in there) at that folder level. Using the ZMI, I added her back in and it all seemed OK but then I realised I had given her the wrong role. I went back and corrected the role but she disappeared again. Now, even though the folder is showing "There are no users defined", when I try and add her back in, I get "A user with the specified name already exists". I experimented a bit more. I added another user and gave it Manager role. I can't delete this one. I added another user and gave it one of our roles, Reviewer (the same as the original ghost user). This one vanished immediately. Can anyone offer any clues as to what might be happening here? Is it safe to delete and re-create the acl_users folder?
